- I decided to re-upload this video from last Summer. Manda was and still is a very important place for me as far as photography goes. It is where I realised how powerful this medium can be.
In the video, I will take you around this remarkable place, and talk about some of the photographs that I took there with my 8x10, spanning many years. When I first photographed there (late 90's), Manda was completely abandoned, and overgrown with high weeds. Now it is a World Heritage site.

Thanks for the tour and your photos of the site.
Thanks for this video! What an experience to have had!
It's a very meaningful place for me, and still is to this day, even though it's like a museum now. Next time I visit, hopefully all the renovations and repairs should be completed. I want to wander around with camera and look for fresh compositions...NOT during Summer! Too hot and humid for me! I don't know how I tolerated 13 Summers there! 😄
I enjoyed watching this again! In the early 80's I worked in a very old industrial facility. I sometimes wish I had been more motivated to take pictures then.
I wish I had discovered photography's potential waaaaaaay sooner! 😀
Thanks for taking the time to watch it again!!
Really love the photo of the box of gloves!
I made a contact print from the 8x10 negative. The detail in the glove is quite stunning, almost 3D.
I enjoy exploring places like this. When I was a kid, fences couldn't keep me from poking around. It's amazing how they actually gave you a key! I'm completely shocked about that!
Yesterday, a friend told me about a famous abandoned hotel on an island nearby and we discussed visiting it to shoot a video. Also, I found an abandoned temple not far from here so I hope to shoot there, too.
If I ever make it up your way, you'll have to show me that temple. I'm quite into old shrines in the mountains, especially abandoned ones.
The story of how I obtained the key (which is a master key and will open the main gate, and all the buildings inside, including two other mine sites) is quite interesting, and humorous. I'll tell you about it sometime!
Did you not want any blacks shooting HP5 at EI64 on the photos with red and green filters? I also noticed ISO 125, 250, & 200. I'm struggling to understand so many ISO values.
EI 64 was to accommodate the #25 filter. I normally expose HP5 at EI 250, and give one and two thirds stop more for the filter. I found that the typical 3 stop increase recommended by Kodak, is too generous for this film.
@@analogueandy8x10 for some reason (duh) I couldn't wrap my head around that concept, I usually accommodate the stops with shutter speed and not ISO, duh twice! Thanks for answering my questions Andy, I look forward to you videos and appreciate them.
@@steveh1273 let me know if there is anything you'd like to see!
@@analogueandy8x10 I thought I was doing something wrong when whenever I gave the full recommended exposure compensation with filters my shots ended up pretty overexposed, glad to see a confirmation of the kodak numbers people parrot being excessive. Also, inspired by the works in the video, thank you!
@@polarcamera thank you! I have found filter factors to be a bit on the excessive side. I also realised several years ago, that a film's spectral response plays a role, too. Cheers!
