And I really, truly hope that one day, the misery will be lifted and both franchises will get rings. After this much pain and suffering, you guys deserve it the most. -Panthers fan
This is a Super Bowl matchup that I would pay good money to see. Especially if both teams come to the game still on dryspells. It would be NFL's version of the 2016 World Series
I was 21 when this game happened, the Lions had a helluva good team, Sanders, Spielman, Moore, Kramer and the great Mel Gray! Everyone nicknamed the Pontiac Silverdome the"Terror Dome" as the Lions were unbeaten at home that season. This was the season that Lions OL Mike Utley suffered a spinal cord injury paralyzing him from the chest down, while being taken from the field on a stretcher he somehow flashed a "Thumbs Up", that moment defined the remainder of the Lions season.
Eric Andolsek killed by a car while mowing his front lawn,in the off season. Lions let this great secondary get away from them, didn’t want to pay them. Only guy they end up keeping is Benny Blades...he always made the big hit after the guy scored a touchdown.
I’m addicted to this game and I’m not a Detroit Lions fan, however, Barry Sanders is my all time favorite Running back so I’m definitely a supporter of them! I hope they eventually go back to the NFC Championship and this time, win that and the Super Bowl! Erik Kramer was so badass in this game! He was on fire!
1:42:32 This is what you came here to see. You hold Barry to 22 yards rushing for 3+ quarters....and then BAM!!! Barry's cape starts to show. Absolutely amazing.
I drove up to Detroit from Cincinnati to attend that game! I wanted to be part of History! 3rd Playoff win since 1957! That’s insane! I attended the Divisional win over Tampa! What a day that was!
@@ScarecrOmegaI think it was one of those things in which the Cowboys sole focus was stopping Barry sanders; since the Lions knew this, they changed tactics and went to the air (it turns out Erik Kramer was pretty decent, and the cowboys pass rush/pass dense needed some upgrades at this point). That led to the Lions dominance; this rout was legit (the regular-season game these two played had the Lions scoring defensive & special teams TD's, but the Cowboys controlled the action).
Even though Dallas shut down Barry, he was able to do what Barry does best; amaze the World with just one iconic run! I’ve watched this run over 1000 times and still get jaw dropped seeing it!
One playoff win in 60 years. Any time I think about some of the heart breakers the Packers have had in the playoffs over the years, I remind myself of the Lions and what their fans have suffered through.
I'm from Green Bay and a Packer fan as well and it is utterly ridiculous what the management for Detroit has done to that franchise over the past 60 years.

Not only was Barry Sanders the greatest running back in NFL history (but Jim Brown is the ONLY guy I would not argue against, so long as that person applies the same logic towards Barry) but he's also one of the most honest, professional, humble, men to have ever played the game. I was born and raised in Oxford, Ms, about 2 miles from the campus of Ole Miss, so naturally I was born a Rebel fan. (god help me) I didn't have a favorite NFL team, and when I was about 5 my older brother decided it was time to pick one. He's been a Chief's fan all his life, so naturally I tried to chose KC also. He wouldn't let me, until I had watched a little more, and you have to remember there was no internet, so he told me some basic info/history on all the teams. A short time later, a Sunday night game between the Lions & Packers was on, and I saw Barry Sanders for the very first time. Even then, at such a young age, I understood on some level that this was special. That HE was special. I've been a die hard Lions fan every day of my life, since that Sunday. (God help me again)
I'll still take Walter Payton. Better receiver, blocker, and was often Chicago's best QB. Never had a WR like Herman Moore. Was always the first and second focus since Chicago was so putrid passing until around 1984.
Wow, I had no idea anyone from outside Michigan could ever become a Lions fan. My hat’s off to you, sir. Barry was one of the few gems we had going for us, but his career could have been outta this world if he played for a functional franchise.
I grew up in NJ, but have been a Lions' fan since 1971. Greg Landry was my first favorite NFL player. (after becoming a Reds fan in 1972, I also became a Bengals fan) That is hilarious, Adam, about how your older brother a.) decided everyone needed to "pick" a favorite, and b.) wouldn't let you pick his. Wow, that is EXACTLY like how things worked with me and my older brothers!!! My oldest brother picked the Colts, my next brother picked the Rams and I picked the Lions. (first game I distinctly remember is the Lions-49ers game at the end of the '71 season, which was televised in NJ) Like you, the choices I made back then as a little kid have stuck with me all my life. Rebs & Lions? Wow, that's rough. Kudos to you for sticking with "your" teams! FWIW, my 3rd favorite team has always been the Chiefs. One day about 5 years ago, I went backwards through the NFL playoffs, year-by-year, crossing off each team that won a game. I got back to 1993 and sadly realized that my 3 favorite teams were the only ones that hadn't been crossed off. Chiefs last win (prior to 2015) was 1993 at Houston before losing the AFC CCG to Buffalo. Lions last win was this one vs Dallas in 1991. And the Bengals' last win was 1990 vs Houston. So I can definitely relate to being a fan of teams that leave you with forlorn hope, at best.

Man that move Barry put on that linebacker for that 47 yard TD is the reason why so many people were shocked that he retired so early. Still have not seen a RB juke like him. I’ve seen bigger, stronger and faster but no one can juke like Him
One great thing about these old games...Guys making plays and then going back to the huddle. No celebrating every first down like it was a major accomplishment or defensive backs flexing after they get beat, but the ball is overthrown. And no one celebrating a big hit after a 20 yard gain.
Lions -has- have some....they -was- were..... If the subject (Lions/they) is plural, then the verb should be plural (have/were) not singular (has/was). They'll probably cover this when you get to 4th grade.
I live 15 minutes from where the Silverdome used to be. Got to play a game there when I played for my parks n rec team when I was 12. Only game we won all season and won it 6-0 lol good times..
My father in law died 2 days before this game... I took a break from the funeral home to try to watch this game...Lions fan my whole life...there will never be another Barry Sanders...and to Erik Kramer..you are blessed to still be here...you were amazing and I hope you have found the peace in your life..thank you for the memories
No one was beating that Washington team. Most underrated Super Bowl champion of my lifetime. All they did was dominate, but 1991 was such a weird year, they never get the credit.
Honestly I think there's a compelling case that it woulda been Phillys year if Cunningham was healthy that defense was unbelievably dominant the problem was after he went down the wheels fell off the offense and was a complete dumpster fire without him
Don't know. There was always something with Philadelphia. Still that season was so bittersweet for them. They went 10-6 with garbage at QB. Plus the 49ers also went 10-6 in there first season without Joe Montana. You could argue that two of the best teams in The NFC Didn't make the playoffs, SF & Philly.
Erik Kramer sucked he had 11 tds and 8 ints in 91 in 92 he had 4 tds and 8 ints the best season he had was with the bears in 95 and the only time in his career he threw over 15 tds
I remember watching this as a kid. Now I just watched it again and it felt like the first time all over again. I was at the Silverdome that year for the Thanksgiving game... damn this brought back memories... those were the years! I miss the dome, I miss hearing “we will rock you”, I miss the jeopardy music during play reviews... the crowds in the dome at this time was electric. Those experiences as a kid, along with Barry Sanders, is why I have been hooked as a die-hard Lions fan my entire life. Damn I hope they can get it together and get a championship.
Was at this game. Being a fan in this crowd was the greatest feeling of any i have been to, and I was at a lot. This crowd was nuts the entire game. Watching the fans do the wave in the Silverdome was awesome and mesmerizing, just like the team on thr field. Such a great day and great memory. This is worth a watch. The Detroit Def was famtastic. Kramer showed intelligence and parience. I was a huge Herman Moore fan he was great And Murray was one of the top K im the league, Mel Grey was one of the best Return men... tho Barry takes kick offs!!!! Ya that happens. Go Lions!
Thank you for posting this. As a Lions fan this is it... So fun to see a team that had so much potential . I was only 7. It was like a never before seen game for me.
They are playing great this year. The Rams gave up on Goff way to early. He took the to a superbowl. He deserved better from them. Glad he is playing well in Detroit.
I was at this game with a good buddy. We had a great time watching Eric Kramer, Barry Sanders, and the Lions defense carve up THE BOYS 38-6. I am still waiting for the next Lions playoff victory.
*Lions post-season wins:* *1935* Lions 26 Giants 7 (NFL Championship, at Detroit) *1952* Lions 31 Rams 21 (Playoff, at Detroit) *1952* Lions 17 Browns 7 (NFL Championship, at Cleveland) *1953* Lions 17 Browns 16 (NFL Championship, at Detroit) *1957* Lions 31 49ers 27 (Playoff, at San Francisco) *1957* Lions 59 Browns 14 (NFL Championship, at Detroit) *1991* Lions 38 Cowboys 6 (Divisional Playoff, at Detroit) From 1960 through 1962, the Lions also won 3 consecutive "Playoff Bowl" games, basically a 3rd-place game played in Miami between the 2nd-place teams from the East and West divisions. (they beat the Browns 17-16...the Eagles 38-10...and the Steelers 17-10) The "Playoff Bowl" was played from 1960 through 1969, but the games are now classified by the NFL merely as exhibition games, and therefore are not included in any official stats or records.
We were driving back from my grandparents' house that day, so we missed this game. I was nervous about the Lions' chances and wanted them to win because...what else...Barry Sanders. Not just the win but the margin put a huge smile on my face!!
I pulled this down this am and am now watching on a 47" VISIO as an .MP4. Kudos to you sir! The editing is excellent and you did a great job of upscaling this.
Spielman should be in the HOF. As a Michigan fan he's the only former Ohio State player I like due to his great play for the Lions and the fact that he is just a hell of a guy.
Nick Heebsh what about lions current LT Taylor Decker? he's a buckeye but is better at protecting Stafford than any other LT we've had. plus he seems like a cool guy
I remember this game like it was yesterday. I knew we didn't have a shot in hell of beating the Washington team but this game was great to witness as a Lions fan. The Silver Rush will never be forgotten!!! The midfield logo doesn't look as imposing as the current logo...lol!
Just like that playoff game Tim Tebow won for the Broncos in 2011 against the Steelers. Both Tebow and Kramer didn't really accomplish much in the NFL after their respective playoff wins.
My folks were sending me clippings of my 'Boyz playoff run while we were in the Gulf prepping for our own run to Kuwait. It may have been short, but it gave me(and a few others of similar fandom)hope and something to smile about. That reward would come the next season.Go 'Boyz and GO NAVY.
First Lions game I ever saw and the game that made me a fan to this day. Mostly because of my dislike of the Cowboys, so this game was fitting since Dallas was on the wrong end of the score. Could have been any other team that beat Dallas and I would ended up a fan of them, but it was Detroit and I have been loyal to this day and beyond.
What a great pass by Kramer to Willie Green for the Lions' first TD! Madden was right. Green was the third receiver on that play!! The pass was initially going to go to the right, but it was great coverage on the right side by Dallas' defense that made Kramer come back to the left. Great awareness by Kramer of knowing where his receivers were, and a GREAT job by Willie Green on his route!!
Willie Green was nicknamed "The Touchdown Machine" after the season he had here. He earned 2 rings with Denver, but shame he never had another season like this.
I am commenting on this video to say 33 years later , the lions won a playoff game! the roar has been restored 🦁

So long as they aren't playing against the Broncos, I'll be rooting with you. Y'all deserve it!!
It will be someone's lifetime, probably not ours. It will be some kind of football played in space.
They will win multiple Super Bowls once the Fords are no longer the owners.
And Coronavirus said.... "AHHH AND THAT WILL BE A NO" 🤣
Wishful thinking
God, it’s been since 92 when the Lions won a playoff game, and today on 1/14/24 the Lions beat the Rams 24-23 to finally win a playoff game.
Three things in this game I miss...Barry, the Silverdome, and the old uniform and logo.
The logo was great. The new one is just some lame attempt to make it modern looking. Keep stuff clean and simple
2K16 the old logo was so bad I used to think the front legs were the mouth.
Mattylicious You must have seen some weird looking lions if you thought that was the mouth. I was never confused by it at all
I actually thought that the arms WERE the mouth of the Lions logo! 😁
The Bubbles logo was one of the league's oldest, a classic look. I'd like to see them go back to the uniforms from the Alex Karras/ Lem Barney days.

1:54:43 Lions Final Play
Man that move Barry put on that linebacker for that 47 yard TD is the reason why so many people were shocked that he retired so early. Still have not seen a RB juke like him. I’ve seen bigger, stronger and faster but no one can juke like Him
NFL where is the full 1991 championship game?
NFL great g ame
Barry Sanders' 47-yard TD run....
that's Barry being Barry!!
Aikman didn't play on that game
1:42:44 "Sanders still on his feet and Sanders is _gone_ "
Iconic top 10 highlight reel play by the best running back of all time
One great thing about these old games...Guys making plays and then going back to the huddle. No celebrating every first down like it was a major accomplishment or defensive backs flexing after they get beat, but the ball is overthrown. And no one celebrating a big hit after a 20 yard gain.
actual just football
What a piece of history this video is with John madden and everything :)
Ohhh the good ol'days. I remember this game.. Who would of known. 32 years later an still waiting for next one. There's always next year..
since 1957, we have had 3 playoff wins. LET’S GO!!!!!!
LOL
Congratulations Lions on tonight’s win!
Watchin this is depressing knowing it's our only playoff win in the SB era
Detroit Fan95 what isn't depressing is that you guys had a top 3 RB who's probably the most entertaining player ever
and wasted his career so much that he retired just to get away from the lions
Detroit Fan95
I respect you you are a true fan my friend.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I was 2 years old im now 30 lol
I was at that game, senior in high school! Unreal!!! What a game.
I can only imagine how loud it was especially seeing Barry’s iconic TD run!
This is the greatest game ever! It's so sad the Lions never won another playoff game again. Unbelievable!
The were robbed of one vs Dallas in 2015, sooo sometimes you have to be allowed to win.
Until January 14, 2024
Lions has some dedicated fans lmbo.... Damn they was lit..
Damn u gorgeous
Lions -has- have some....they -was- were.....
If the subject (Lions/they) is plural, then the verb should be plural (have/were) not singular (has/was). They'll probably cover this when you get to 4th grade.
"Man" is not a proper noun nor is it at the beginning of a sentence. However, you had capitalized the word in your profile name.
"Hot comb" is two words not one. You should pick up an English book.
Lit?
Amazingly after this game both teams went in Opposite directions.
“Lions capture first postseason win since 1957” Only to have that be their only one since 1957.
Not anymore
Who's here after their playoff win vs rams?
OH my goodness! Thank you! I was 9 years old when my dad took me to this game. Greatest time of my childhood right here.
One thing in common with this game and yesterday's games: Detroit wins and Dallas loses. lol. Congrats to the Lions on breaking the drought.
Coincidentally, Dallas ends up loosing to another NFC North team.
I live 15 minutes from where the Silverdome used to be. Got to play a game there when I played for my parks n rec team when I was 12. Only game we won all season and won it 6-0 lol good times..
Barry "The Greatest Running Back EVER" Sanders
Emitt Smith is!!!
@@shawngilmore9700 negative. Barry did more with less.
Walter Payton
@@shawngilmore9700 Emmitt was Garbage. He needed a line!
I wish we would of cared this momentum into the NFC championship game and got to the sb...
No one was beating that Washington team. Most underrated Super Bowl champion of my lifetime. All they did was dominate, but 1991 was such a weird year, they never get the credit.
Honestly I think there's a compelling case that it woulda been Phillys year if Cunningham was healthy that defense was unbelievably dominant the problem was after he went down the wheels fell off the offense and was a complete dumpster fire without him
The Lions and Redskins played week 1. 45-0 Washington lol
Kevin Balls ikr
Don't know. There was always something with Philadelphia. Still that season was so bittersweet for them. They went 10-6 with garbage at QB. Plus the 49ers also went 10-6 in there first season without Joe Montana. You could argue that two of the best teams in The NFC Didn't make the playoffs, SF & Philly.
don't ya love old school football. it's awesome to look at history
Phoenix Dexheimer back when the lions had a quarterback Hell! they won a playoff game so that makes Kramer better than Stafford
yep kramer is better than (statsford)
Erik Kramer sucked he had 11 tds and 8 ints in 91 in 92 he had 4 tds and 8 ints the best season he had was with the bears in 95 and the only time in his career he threw over 15 tds
@@KamuiCage he was a lot better than Scott Mitchell!😂
Being 2023, it's been 1 playoff win in the last 66 years
Next opportunity imminent. It seems
Make that two playoff wins.
@@ericradford2142 Make that 3.
Wow, them boys were decimated by the Lions and Sanders put the Motor in Motor City. Respect....respect!
Cowboys did win 3 out of the next 4 SBs and this was the Lions last ever playoff win so…..
Anyone else revisiting after the Lions win against the Rams?😅
I was here
I remember watching this as a kid.
Here after the Lions won a wildcard game after over 30 years.
I drove from Cincinnati, Ohio to watch the divisional win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. What a day I’ll never forget as long as I live.
I'm glad some time after this game someone decided to start keeping the score on the screen.
This is the Lions unofficial Super Bowl win.
Go Lions!
Who's here because the Lions are going to play their first playoff game at Ford Field
R.I.P. John Madden
Which they won
❤❤
Thank you for posting this. As a Lions fan this is it... So fun to see a team that had so much potential . I was only 7. It was like a never before seen game for me.
Best time of my life. I was 13
I still get goosebumps watching this I know one day we'll be back on top!!!!!
I wanna know where “Guy In The Stands” is these days!
It was after this year that Dallas won 3 Super Bowls in the next 4 years. And this was the last time the lions were looked at as actual contenders.
Calm down over there
Maddens commentary is fantastic. Could hear that dude speak nonstop.
*Lions post-season wins:*
*1935* Lions 26 Giants 7 (NFL Championship, at Detroit)
*1952* Lions 31 Rams 21 (Playoff, at Detroit)
*1952* Lions 17 Browns 7 (NFL Championship, at Cleveland)
*1953* Lions 17 Browns 16 (NFL Championship, at Detroit)
*1957* Lions 31 49ers 27 (Playoff, at San Francisco)
*1957* Lions 59 Browns 14 (NFL Championship, at Detroit)
*1991* Lions 38 Cowboys 6 (Divisional Playoff, at Detroit)
From 1960 through 1962, the Lions also won 3 consecutive "Playoff Bowl" games, basically a 3rd-place game played in Miami between the 2nd-place teams from the East and West divisions. (they beat the Browns 17-16...the Eagles 38-10...and the Steelers 17-10) The "Playoff Bowl" was played from 1960 through 1969, but the games are now classified by the NFL merely as exhibition games, and therefore are not included in any official stats or records.
Thank you for this history
We were driving back from my grandparents' house that day, so we missed this game. I was nervous about the Lions' chances and wanted them to win because...what else...Barry Sanders. Not just the win but the margin put a huge smile on my face!!
1:46:16 Up until 1991, I had never seen the Detroit Lions mascot this happy and engaged.
Lol what about the other Mascots when Melvin Jenkins ran a Pick 6!😂
@@boogitybear2283 The little one nearly got knocked down there!
I'm 50 years old. This is the only Lions playoff win in my lifetime.
Best Detroit Lions Team!
Had the Lions get Home Field advantage versus the Redskins, they would have won it all that year. The Super Bowl was indoors where they were 11-0.
Crowd was insane!
Was there
To ALL Detroit Lions fans, congrats on the Lions getting their first division title since 1993!!!!!
Kramer looked like a Hall of Famer in this one game.
First time they had 2 weeks to prepare for a game and actually practiced. Seems like they did not do that too much in that era .
Kramer got compared to Joe Montana by John Madden.Funny the Lions organization couldnt see it,but a commentator could.
Pretty sure he wasn't Montana
Just like that playoff game Tim Tebow won for the Broncos in 2011 against the Steelers. Both Tebow and Kramer didn't really accomplish much in the NFL after their respective playoff wins.
Yeah
Cowboys were on the cusp of greatness here. They would go on to win three of the next four Super Bowls after this playoff loss.
The same year Home Improvement premiered on TV.
Who else is here after the lions beat the rams in the wild card?
Just like Erik Kramer, Jared Goff played great passing attempts!
The run by barry is why i started loving and watching the lions. If only id have known how much my heart would be ripped out!!!!!
I love those old Lions uniforms. I don't understand why they went away from them.
Millen is the reason. He added black cuz he played for the Raiders 🤦♂️ Lions look much better in their current uniforms.
Thomas Zielinski: At least my problem is fixable... unlike yours, which isn't.
I was there with my Dad and brother.
Lifelong struggling Lions fan.
Dome was rocking that day!
1:42:44 Holy crap, he made #75 and #51 look so stupid, hahaha! Barry Sanders is one of the most fun players to watch.
Guy-In-Stands.... The Hero we needed
GO LIONS!
Barry was the best ever.
Redskins fan here
Just watch that run
Great game for the Lions. I remember the graphic they showed at 1:28:28 that had me rolling.
Lmao whatever happened to Guy In The Stands?😂
My Dad was at this game. When Barry broke off that run, he said that was the loudest he ever heard the Silverdome.
Madden: "Uh, he's looking at those imaging things or whatever you call them." John, do you mean "pictures"?
Absolutely insane how much the game has evolved. This looks like a club team compared to the schemey offenses of today. PS: Go Lions!!
First Lions game I ever saw and the game that made me a fan to this day. Mostly because of my dislike of the Cowboys, so this game was fitting since Dallas was on the wrong end of the score. Could have been any other team that beat Dallas and I would ended up a fan of them, but it was Detroit and I have been loyal to this day and beyond.
shanna scruggs I’m so sorry
Barry Sanders, Pat Summeral and John Madden.....SUPER!!!
Who's here after Lions win over Rams to end the drought
This is the first NFL Divisional playoff game to be played indoors as crazy as that sounds.
The second TD to Green was my favorite. Kramer threw a bullet to him!
I was 3 when they won this game. Hoping to see a home divisional game this year.
That is my bday 10 years b4 I was born💯 I was negative 10 years old when The lions last won a playoff game
Man, I remember this game 🦁 looking forward to the Lions making New memories with playoffs and wins
Willie Green was nicknamed "The Touchdown Machine" after the season he had here. He earned 2 rings with Denver, but shame he never had another season like this.
So did Ray Crockett with the 97 and 98 Broncos.
When Barry Scored, that was the loudest that the Silverdome ever gotten.
Who else cam here to see three legends play?!?!! Barry, Emmit, and Irvin!!!
ThePortadump me
ThePortadump you forgot Herman Moore
ThePortadump the Moore/Perriman duo isn't remembered but they were lethal for 5 or 6 years. Today, Perriman's son is a speedy Ravens wideout.
You forgot Aikman.
