It's not bizarre at all to be honest, if you mean the resolution of the chorus. It's simply that you don't hear this sort of simple chromatic tension used in popular music.
@@TristanJCumpole It’s closer to something One’d hear in a retro spy thriller than a pop song, true. But there was a brief period after Portishead’s first LP when it actually was kinda in vogue for a couple of years (Morcheeba etc). Shouts out to Grand Royale/The whole Beastie Boys family. RIP MCA and Vivian.
This is the best live I've seen of this song. They had a hard time playing it live after it was a radio hit because they were a recording band. The song is a drum and bass song mostly in the recording and those just need to be tight to lock in the song. They never seem to make those elements stand out in the live performances though.
Saw them perform live in San Luis Obispo 1996. They put on a great show! Tight performance with awesome sound. Not gonna lie, at 17 was seriously crushing out on Jill 🥰
I saw them warm up for REM at Polaris North of Columbus Ohio in the late 90's. I really didn't know them at the time, but they were great. An still on my fav playlist. REM was ... amazing, to boot. "Headache boy" tour.
Probably the best live version I've heard of this song. They always seemed to be a "studio/recording" band more so than live. The new bass player and emphasizing the drum & bass is good - when playing live, you need a foundation.
In heaven, the years 1990 through 1999 are on indefinite repeat.
Amen brother!
@3:33 allllllllllllllright

Soundgarden. "Burden in my hand"
1996.

just a BURRDEN IN MY HAAAAND
A really tight rhythm section. And a really bizarre chord progression. I always loved this song.

@@dethkon "closer to something one would hear in a retro spy thriller" is a great assessment / observation.
You have really good taste.
Nothing finer on this planet than a group of beautiful women making memories and killing it. Damn I still have a crush on that singer. Shit!
@PatrickS.Tomlinson um yeah PatrickS. Dumblinson. Your generation of skanks can't hold a fucking candle to these women. And that's talent and beauty.
@PatrickS.Tomlinson
The thirst is STRONG with this one.....
Good musicians tho
I remember waking up from a nap in 97 to this on the radio
I love this album. 😊 great band
Saw them in concert in the mid 90s, great show
I wasn’t wrong about Luscious Jackson. They should have been the biggest band of the 90s.
I want to give two thumbs up!
Awesome song, RIP Vivian...sad loss!
I bummed a ride back to the bus terminal while this was playing. I was hella doped up on Meth. I've been sober 22 years.
Love how she is hesitant at first and then sends that power... such a beautiful voice and the NY accent :)
At the end you could tell how nervous she was. I think it's very endearing because I'd be nervous as hell too on tv.
Her chorus performance is just like in studio

Saw them perform live in San Luis Obispo 1996. They put on a great show! Tight performance with awesome sound. Not gonna lie, at 17 was seriously crushing out on Jill 🥰
I loved this band when young. Happy I found you again. Klinten fra hveten . Great songwriters. t, Oslove
Jill Cunniff 😍 ... remember picking up In Search of Manny at Repo Records in Philly early 90s so good
Rocked this and all Luscious Jackson tunes at many house party's off my head on that good extacy back in the day
Best song, one hit wonder, and then you play this
RIP Vivian :(
This song speaks words About a generation in the 90s ❤❤❤❤❤

Tiene algo de ESG, Talking Heads...es un complejo tema pop !
i can NOT BELIEVE THAT THERE WERE TIMES THAT GIRLS WERE TRUE AND REAL BACK THEN...AND NOT PLASTIC AND LOOKING LIKE SLUTS!!!!!
if i could marry two ladys one would be L.J. drummer and the bass player for silver sun pickups
That girl knows how to make a skirt mean something
Was this for real in 2021?
No
No. Vivian Trimble (the keyboard player) left the band in 1998. Sadly, she passed away in April 2023.
@@craigcampbell8560she also does the chorus
Vivian!!!
I never knew Amy Winehouse played guitar
Way better looking than Winehouse.
I like this song, but whoever mixed this did them no favors
Who was this touring bassist?
meshell ndegeocello - she's a pretty badass bassist
@@shawnkearney5606
No way!! That's her! L
@@shawnkearney5606I don’t think that is Meshell. Pretty sure that’s Ann Hairston. (But Meshell IS awesome!)
@@pat99cents The mystery deepens! Its hard to say, both play right handed, both badasses, similar look, face shape..IDK
When was this?
Late 90s
