Man haven't you understoods Apples workings. They don't believe in giving more but certainly take a premium charge. They give features and take away features as and what their useless design team says not what users actually want.
iPadOS 16 is disappointing for non M1 iPad, even android phones/tablets can have multiple windows with 4gbof ram years ago, that's not an excuse, they just want you to buy the overpowered M1 iPads

I think making the M lines of iPad work almost like a laptop/mac mini when attached to external monitor (full screen) is huge, but the day Apple give iPad a native calculator is the day we know iPad is finally acknowledged as a legit computer.
Split view is still there because honestly, most iPad users don’t really care too much about having actual windows. Like it’s nice, I love that it’s there, but personally I’m so happy to have the choice to disable it. For creatives and artists especially, split view is just way better for when you need a reference right next to your canvas.
Old multitasking is still there because it’s more convenient when u use it without a keyboard and trackpad/mouse. I love the fact they gave me a choice, it’s really extends the versatility of iPad.
As I understand it, you will have to choose Stage Manager in Controls, so that leaves split, slideover as the default, seems to me. I've used split and slideover since it was first available and not sure which way I'll choose--I use windows on my Mac but--I use my Ipad Pro 12.9 much more than my Macbook. I prefer a touch screen (years of using a big Wacom tablet with my Windows custom machines before I switched to Apple) and I use a Pencil a lot, so Ipad Pro has worked pretty well for me, esp. since the 12.9's came out.

The wallpaper switching will be very annoying, I like having different wall papers for home and lock screens. Maybe they’ll fix that in an update🤞. The photo subject cropping is awesome and so is the white board!
True, this is a beta one. I’m sure they’re getting a ton of feedback from people telling them how their wallpapers are changing without them wanting them to, so I’m sure this will get ironed out in a subsequent beta.
As an illustrator I use the standard iPad multitasking system a lot. For my use case centerstage is a nice to have but I don't need it at all, if apple removes the old multitasking feature then it will hinder me a lot.
My thoughts: 💩 move by Apple to not allow Stage Manager on all iPad Pro’s. Even the 2018 Pro could handle this with ease. Simple money grab to get people upgrading.
Referring to iPadOS 16 it's a huge jump forward, but you still need a mac for actual work: intensive file management, professional video editing, books and ebooks publishing workflow, and programming are impossible or, at least, painful. I'm very sorry to say I'm going to buy a Surface pro 8.
To really save the future of the iPad Apple should made it possible to switch to MacOS on the iPad if someone needs it. This would be a reason to upgrade to a new iPad Pro for me. At the moment I am doing most produktive stuff on a laptop again after waiting for several years for an iPad that is usable as a real productive device...

When it’s in stage manager can it go full screen side by side apps? If not I get why they left the old multi tasking view and being able to toggle back and forth. Sometimes you just want to do iPad casual stuff
My Setup: - GE 76 Raider 2022 i9 RTX3080Ti, an ASUS ProArt Display PA329C 4K HDR Professional Monitor, WX1000XM3 Headphones; iPhone 12 mini; 12.9 inch iPad Pro A12z, MX Keys, MX Master 2S. The reason I am writing is to provide a complete context of how I work. I am Structural Engineer and can thank god afford such an extensive setup for work. The only thing that I use my iPad for is for taking notes unfortunately. At the time of buying the iPad Pro, I seriously thought that it's LiDAR scanner would come in handy, it'll soon have pro engineering and design apps like ArchiCAD, Plaxis, xCode, ANSYS, etc. because they were rumoured to be announced for the iPad OS at the time. But all these years after, still nothing. Absolutely bloody nothing. It's just an overexpensive note taking, sketching, reading tablet with nothing that can professionally be leveraged. Another gripe that I have with Apple is that in the recent years, Apple's stance of "PRO" is just for the people in Video editing, Photo editing, and related industry. Trust me it's not pro. There's not a single workable Structural Engineering or any other Core engineering Work place solutions on the Macs or the iPads. Architects use the Mac but not engineers. Macs are stupid pieces of junk, no matter how extensively you spend on them. Trust me, if you're anyone who's not working in the youtube, other social media content creator space, or movies, video or photos, neither the mac nor the iPad is made for you no matter how rich you are or however many items you can buy on company paycheck. It's just junk at the end of the day.
Why are freeform functions not available on Notes app? Like pinch to zoom in and out…or why is it a separate app anyway; freeform should’ve been a function added to Notes instead of a totally separate app. What do you think?
As a 2021 iPad Pro 12.9 owner, I'm extremely disappointed in Apple limiting us to something that will be available on the iPad Air M1. Since I'm already not using my iPad Pro as much as I thought I would to replace my 2013 MacBook Pro (which I actually upgraded due to my disappointment), I'm pretty sure this will sink the nail in the coffin for me with iPad devices if they don't support a 2 year old device with the latest features. Just shows that Apple is struggling to sell new devices and this is their plan to motivate us. Come on Apple... you're better than this!
The iPad is the most expensive media consumption device for developers since Apple will not allow using many tools, languages, and VMs on a device that only has a difference in the software when compared with the laptops and desktops.
I just got an iPhone 13 Pro yesterday, is it just me or is that thing a friggin brick? OMG its sooo heavyyyy WTF! I cant believe still how huge the bezels are. I will never get used to the notch. I think i will replace it asap when the 14 Pro comes out. I hope they will make it lighter
This is still beta 1. I think far more improvement are on the way. I’m rocking the beta version on my main phone is my only phone anyways, but that’s because I’m tech enthusiast. So IDC.
This is literally developer Beta version 1. The font is much less important than getting it functional. The refinement will come later. Keep that in mind.

Never understood this type of comment. Your "Pro" device does and will still do what you thought it was doing, you were never promised anything forward. You based your decision on what it did for you not what it might do in the future (as nobody could guess), your 2 year old device wont suddenly stop being pro or doing it's work. You are missing on features from the new OS, features you didn't have before, but the HW you have is still as good and as zippy on the new OS. Bottom line, ALWAYS buy stuff for what they are capable the day you buy them, never buy things hoping they will do more in the future.

There is one thing that’s missing; when I’m in teams and camera on and opening a second a the camera closes. Please @apple let camera open with second app For my work I want to use my iPad Pro but is impossible of camera closes when I open browser of word (second app)
for the calculator app, there will never be. develop them from the 1st ipad, had created it but when steve jobs the view, he hated the big buttons and said that apple will never provide a calculator on the ipad and that the external devlopper will do.
I wish apple would focus more on a better battery than adding new features that aren’t anything that extraordinary and it just drains the battery more and age it faster cause you can barely see the screen that well unless you turn it up to at least 50% which also drains the battery, older iPads use to be brighter on lower settings so I miss that apple I feel upgraded too often and that’s why there’s no real innovation anymore and why I don’t upgrade often
The ipad pro 2020 was my very first Ipad but I’ve since bought the m1 ipad pro, ipad mini 6 and the m1 air as well. So I’m good but yea sucks for ppl who can’t afford or just don’t want to purchase multiple ipads.
I do have to admit. The weather app is gorgeous. I hope it’s here to stay given how ruthless Apple can be. I mean just look at some of the points in this video. The m1 iPad Pro supports proper monitor extension.
I had hoped that the stage manager would have worked with apps like games, so I can have several apps open, like hayday, messenger, RUclips and discord. So I dont have to change in and out from the different apps all the time
Most of the time I use the iPad to read my ePubs and PDFs books using their Books app. I think iOS 16 literally killed the app getting rid of the animations, number of books in a collection, and change the way to highlight and bookmark pages. Apple is supposed to make it better not worse.
I use Samsung and when I think maybe I should move to Apple. They give me another reason to stay with Samsung. Just wish I had got Samsung tab S7 and not the iPad Air
As much as I like iMessage when will it incorporate the ability to schedule messages? I use my iPhone 12 Pro with family & friends but I use my Samsung S22 Ultra as my primary messaging device mainly because of scheduled messaging. This feature has been around for awhile on android phones and I find it as valuable as the Airdrop feature on iOS.

They don't need to catch-up is something so meaningless. Apple is ahead in all the right fields. Like actually optimized and perfectly working applications. As well as more pro applications which is more relevant on the iPad
stage manager looks pretty tacky and unfinished. i much prefer the slide over design, as it utilizes the entire screen. on the other hand the stage manager mode simply floats the apps over top of the wallpaper. additionally, the unmovable app bar (which takes up hella space) seems to be unnecessary (just make it swipe-able). my ipad has been going strong on ipad os 14 ! and so i won’t be updating it’s software anytime soon :-)

ZoneOfTech is not an Apple engineer, actual Apple engineers said the feature was not available since the older SoCs have no virtual memory swapping, which would make the experience unresponsive and not up to their standards of user interface.
As a gen 4 ipad air , i can honestly say that all these new updated are completely useless to me, its pretty obvious how apple just wants us all to buy m1 ipads

Currently it is a bug not a feature. Of course you will be able to set different home and Lock Screen wallpapers
Why would they remove the ability to have a lock screen photo that is different from the wall paper behind your apps? That is a major downgrade!!! 😡
You can do it but you have to do it multiple times before it actually changes then it works. It is frustrating tho.
Hopefully it’s something they fix in upcoming betas to still have the different wallpaper between Lock Screen and Home Screen.
Imagine having a photo of your daughter as wallpaper then having force to use it on the Lock Screen also… that’s great privacy right there 😂🤡

I have an ipad pro 4th generation (2020) and absolutely gutted not to have all the features of ios16 even though I think this ipad could support it.

You can still have separate Lock Screen and Home Screen wallpapers on iOS 16, you can find this in the setting app

You can change the Home Screen wall paper and have a separate one for HS and LS .

Long press on a lock screen and you can delete it.

The ipad pro 2020 was my very first Ipad but I’ve since bought the m1 ipad pro, ipad mini 6 and the m1 air as well. So I’m good but yea sucks for ppl who can’t afford or just don’t want to purchase multiple ipads.
I do have to admit. The weather app is gorgeous. I hope it’s here to stay given how ruthless Apple can be. I mean just look at some of the points in this video. The m1 iPad Pro supports proper monitor extension.
I had hoped that the stage manager would have worked with apps like games, so I can have several apps open, like hayday, messenger, RUclips and discord. So I dont have to change in and out from the different apps all the time
Most of the time I use the iPad to read my ePubs and PDFs books using their Books app. I think iOS 16 literally killed the app getting rid of the animations, number of books in a collection, and change the way to highlight and bookmark pages. Apple is supposed to make it better not worse.
I use Samsung and when I think maybe I should move to Apple. They give me another reason to stay with Samsung. Just wish I had got Samsung tab S7 and not the iPad Air

As much as I like iMessage when will it incorporate the ability to schedule messages? I use my iPhone 12 Pro with family & friends but I use my Samsung S22 Ultra as my primary messaging device mainly because of scheduled messaging. This feature has been around for awhile on android phones and I find it as valuable as the Airdrop feature on iOS.
I know one thing IPad OS better have more goodies for non M1 iPads because a weather app sucks….Hard.

Oh, Apple are catching up, a bit! However, they haven't thought things out very well in my opinion, still a long way to go to catch up with Android customisation! 🤷xx 💞
They don't need to catch-up is something so meaningless. Apple is ahead in all the right fields. Like actually optimized and perfectly working applications. As well as more pro applications which is more relevant on the iPad

stage manager looks pretty tacky and unfinished.
i much prefer the slide over design, as it utilizes the entire screen. on the other hand the stage manager mode simply floats the apps over top of the wallpaper. additionally, the unmovable app bar (which takes up hella space) seems to be unnecessary (just make it swipe-able).
my ipad has been going strong on ipad os 14 ! and so i won’t be updating it’s software anytime soon :-)
You can hide the app bar and window tab bar on the left, they'll intuitively return when you hover close to the bottom of the screen
Apple trying to get me upgrade my iPad Pro and not giving full upgrades. This is why people start to resent them for money grabbing people haven’t got money at a time when money is tight.

@@arandomhumanbeing2464 zone of tech clearly said they were capable of doing them even if some were limited like maybe only having 3 apps on centre stage. I appreciate if I had a iPhone 6 it would struggle with new features but an iPad Pro 2 years old not being able to upgrade is not what people sign up for. As I said money is tight for the majority of people at the moment and can’t upgrade to a new iPad Pro.
@@Ant-kd4mc the iPad *was* upgraded to iPadOS 16. One feature was excluded, but Apple doesn’t owe you any features.
ZoneOfTech is not an Apple engineer, actual Apple engineers said the feature was not available since the older SoCs have no virtual memory swapping, which would make the experience unresponsive and not up to their standards of user interface.
The only thing that Apple is KILLING, is the laptop industry! Well done!

You think your little limited world is relevant? The iPad still sells billions and has an extremely high satisfaction rate. You make part of an extremely tiny (and annoyingly vocal) minority. For 99.99% of users, iPadOS is excellent and suffices their needs.

It's not just about ram size. M1 supports virtual memory swap which allows it use ssd storage as ram. Old models doesn't support this.
