A really interesting video on a very modern city. I'd read books about this city when it was known to the outside world as Canton. Every Canadian knows of Cantonese style Chinese Food since many of the Chinese who worked on building the CPR opened restaurants in towns and cities along the rail lines. For such a short time you covered a lot of ground. I hope you get some Alina time while you're in China. I love your content but don't want you to get run down creating it. GUANGZHOU appears to be very modern, clean and futuristic yet still well maintains some of the old historical buildings. Nothing like the U.S. especially in Northern California where I live. Looking forward to your next video.
Lots of foreigners first time in GUANGZHOU. They're surprised how safe, friendly, delicious food, culture, transportation, many automobiles electric, street very quiet, clean roads or streets, not crowded, lots of parks very green and phone payments every part of city. Most of them say futuristic cities and everything automation.Even women can go out late at night without fear of being robbed or shot. The most famous thing about Guangzhou is not its urban architecture, but its food. Now that you are here in China's most famous food city, Guangzhou, don't miss this rare opportunity.
I am a Guangzhou native, and I recommend going to Guangzhou’s Party Pier near the Canton Tower and Foshan’s Qiandeng Lake and zumiao, which can be reached by subway.
You did a good job of reviewing Guangzhou and you even got the pronunciation down! It's a lot easier to travel there than it used to be 20 years ago when I first went and my goodness is it different now, it used to be nearly all bicycles back then. You can get a 10 year visa to make travel to China much easier for a Canadian. I was surprised you haven't had congee before, in the Toronto area, congee restaurants are everywhere. I saw you also like Pandas, if so, a trip to Chengdu would be really enjoyable and it's a pretty fabulous city in its own right. If you can, I recommend trying to meet up with locals when in China, you will experience it much differently if you're not just a tourist.
Seeing this makes me want to go back immediately. I visited China 3 months ago for the first time because of my girlfriend (she is chinese and lives in foshan wich is near Guangzhou). We also visited the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall and the park at 11:30. I can also recomment visiting the Ancient Nanfeng Kiln south of the foshan airport ;)
There are 4 first-tier cities in Mainland China, Guangzhou and Shenzhen which are located in south part of China's Guangdong province, and anther two are Shanghai (as you may know one of the international Economic hubs ) and Beijing which is our capital city. So hope you've got ur time to visit them all in next few days.🇨🇳

From friends and colleagues, the most common thing I hear from them is how safe China is, the lady teachers who travelled out there solo have said they've never felt so safe walking around in the middle of the night, God knows what they are doing walking around that time though.
A lot of places in China, especially in the major cities are still very vibrant even at 2-3am. Bars, street food or restaurants are still open at that hours. Lot of people would be still out on the street having fun. Not like most of the places in the west. The streets become dead after 9pm.
It really depends, In some cites in China like Changsha, Tongren, etc, their night life begins at 0:00 AM, they usually have a fourth meal at that time as a night snack, then go to KTV, or video arcade, or shop around, or fooling around of the young of course. For me, I like to stay at home and play video games, anyway, just options, you know.
Guangzhou is modern but more traditional compared to Shenzhen and Shanghai. Guangzhou and Guangdong province as a whole are much more jam-packed during the rush hours since that area is basically where "Made in China" is being produced with hundreds of thousands of migrant workers from all over the country.

Welcome to my hometown! Did you not see the amazing ancient road surface when you were at Beijing Road? There are several glass windows on the road surface, through which you can see the roads of Han Dynasty (202-220 BC), Tang Dynasty (618-907), Song Dynasty (960-1279), and Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) just a few feet below where your stand, which proves that Beijing Road has been the central street of Guangzhou since its founding in 214 BC. In my opinion, this is the most worthwhile attraction to see on Beijing Road.

@Alina McLeod, Thank you for the video and the livestream. In your live stream you showed an exhibition covered by glass sheets on the road surface in the middle of Beijing Road in Guangzhou, which you was wondering what it was. That glass exhibition on the road surface is an historic site. It shows 11 layers of the ancient road spanned over 1000 years (the city Guangzhou has existed since 200 BC). That 11 layers of the ancient road in a depth of over 3 meters was discovered when the road was going through a renovation In 2002. It was pretty amazing to see how the road got transformed and built upwards layer by layer over 3 meters over 1000 years. The Beijing road has been the city centre over 100s years (may be 1000 year) until approximately 10 years ago.

It means you get your pension monthly even you stay overseas, are a multi-millionaire or have another job after retirement. Singapore is another example of one party system. Its gdp is highest among Asia.
But the West would still hate China even if China was a two-party democracy. The West just doesn't want a non-white country to be more powerful than it. Look how they treated Japan in the 1980s.
All of this to try to convince yourself that China is better. It's not better

You came at a good time to Guangzhou in March, because when I went there a crowds during Chinese New Year (Early Feb) there was massive people in subways and out in the streets. I did not get to see much there as you did or did I stay as long as you have.. The riverboat cruise during the evening on the Pearl River was pretty nice, especially the Alibaba building lights.

From friends and colleagues, the most common thing I hear from them is how safe China is, the lady teachers who travelled out there solo have said they've never felt so safe walking around in the middle of the night, God knows what they are doing walking around that time though.
Lots of activity going on. Old people exercise, kids play outside. Young people meet and feast together etc.
