Muddstuh said he didnt know what went wrong, but I mean it was somewhat clear. he took an opening hand without an unblockable creature then just got shit luke the rest of his game
It's easy to say what went wrong with Yuriko: Peter didn't have any unblockable creatures early on and whatever he put on the field later was pinged to death.
You think it is only the bad luck of the draw on his part? His deckbuilding choices seem very weird - swords are like win more card in Yuriko even in builds which focus around extra turns. Furthermore he kept a hand without a creature go figure out.
He did keep a very bad hand... normally, you'd want a 1 CMC evasive creature to ensure a turn two Yuriko attack if it's not removed. The entire deck relies on triggering Yuriko for life loss and card advantage.
It must be, as a yuriko player myself nearly every play had me shaking my head wondering what the hell he was trying to do. Nothing he was dropping made sense. And double hard cast Yuriko?? If that ain't a sign, idk what is.
"Tough to say what went wrong" I saw a truck load of things that went wrong with just that list alone. -Not enough turn 1 evasive creatures -Equipments -3 drop or beyond mana rocks, too expensive to utilize in a Yuriko deck -Too many dead win more cards that don't contribute to board state -Too many expensive sorcery that ends up being dead because Yuriko will never reach the mana base to cast them in the first place
Purphoros is only NOT a creature when he's on the battlefield with not enough devotion. Everywhere else, including on the stack, Purphoros is a creature, and shouldn't trigger Kykar or Saheeli upon being cast. This is because permanent cards' abilities have no effect outside of the battlefield unless the ability itself says so or determines attributes of the card itself (for example, Lord of Extinction's ability determines its power and toughness even when it's not on the battlefield).
Literally just built Kykar last week and started looking for a Muddstah video with him/her in it. Glad to see all the best cards made it onto the video!
"Whoa wait a minute, where did Yuriko come from?!?!?" "Shhhhh, everyone be quiet, Peter is playing Yuriko." "Is it Ninja time? I think it's ninja time, and Yuriko is here to help!" "Sneaking out of Rajah's shadow and into our hearts, it's Yuriko."
A proper Yuriko decklist requires tonnes of enablers. People seem to think that’s not really important but it is. Some proper examples can be found in mtgtop8 commander, although those are French or mtgo commander lists, the amount of enablers is a good example. Lots of 1 drop enablers Ensure yuriko gets 1-2 enablers in their opening hand and more later when needed.
That Kykar gave me flashbacks to my first EDH game against Prosh. Also please keep Zedruu around, love the deck! But I can understand the need for variance!
Nice touch greying out the Commander image as well when a player loses the game now (if that is actually new and I've not just missed it for however many videos).
As a Yuriko Player myself , Peter's build has a lot of flaws. I have looked over the deck lists and have noticed some strange techs to say the least. I dont know what the budget is for upgrades, but definitely more 1 or 2 mana unbloackable creatures, some cards that have haste or lighting boots to accelerate yurikos effectiveness and counter cards that wont cost mana vs dscards such as force of will, force of despair, misdirection etc. would all do wonders.
I feel like there was some odd threat assessment in the late game. Seems odd that Peter and Scott were going after one another when Adam was the clear threat at that point. Still super fun game and Mudsta when introducing Yuriko why not go "It's the Cowabunga girl Yuriko" or something to that effect lol
You're right, we did. Kykar has become my favourite deck for sure. I love playing it. I've got Elsha joining the deck soon as an alternative commander.
A Name I'm gonna do the same thing, currently I'm using locust god as a second commander since the deck is heavy focused in card draw and it opens to some sweet combos with Arcane Adaptation
Seems like there was some weird threat assessment this game. Yuriko, basically got focused the whole time which let Kykar and the Wanderer keep their engines on the table. Lot of scary commanders tho, so I get it.
I felt like the Maelstrom Wanderer was incredibly powerful here and the deck was really strong. I'm glad they were able to reel him in. I checked this out because I just picked up Kykar just to add to my collection, though I probably won't actually build the deck.
Adam shouldn't have gotten tokens from casting Purphoros, as Purphoros is a creature while it's on the stack, but resolves as a non creature due to its devotion requirement not being met. Saheeli and Kykar both specifically say 'noncreature' spell, meaning Purphoros would not qualify. Ultimately, it wasn't gamebreaking, but hey, rules are rules.
@@adameister5883 Right you are. I heard Muddstah say that while I was listening to the video, not watching it, and missed that the tokens weren't placed. Please excuse my mistake.
I’ve said it several times but I love Titania. I’m waiting for a foil print! That being said I’ve yet to see you not get hated out at the table while playing it.
Muddstah, can you make a video where it’s a commander game but it’s sort of basic and explains how it works so that I can show my friend whose new to magic and commander how to play?
I know Scott was probably thinking you were going to punch him in the face with Marit Lage next turn, but in some way I almost felt he should've started knocking at Adam with that damage instead of you. considering that you only had 5 life at the time, chances are Adam was going to burn your life down with Purphoros anyways. Still, I'm always looking for ways to break Kykar so it was nice watching this game.
About Zedruu VS Kykar, the latter has more explosive/combo potential and doesn't rely on giving your stuff to your opponents, so I think it's the superior one... By the way, Kykar + Karmic Guide + Body Double = infinite red mana. :)
Purporos cast doesn't trigger kykar and saheeli because when it's not on battlefield, it's always a creature enchantment. devotion only matters when the god is on battlefield
I’m a Yuriko player and this hurts my soul! From the past episodes till now it seems like the Yuriko player don’t know how to use Yuriko and it’s just painful to watch.
Shitty deck design. Has no idea how to run that deck AT ALL. I’m not even done with the video but we’re 5 turns in and I see no creatures lol. Terrible.
Tbh Muddstah, you were targeted. Titania would have done a lot more if your early game ramp weren't disrupted or if your Scapeshift had gone through. Not to mention Scott consistently threw a ton of damage at you after you were basically neutralized.
YEAH, #TeamKykar! Apologies to Zedruu, but Kykar is my Jeskai commander of choice for the foreseeable future. Stronger than Shu Yun, and more flexible than Narset, without the bad feelings. Elsha makes a strong case, but until I see some gameplay, I'm sticking with my birdgrrl.
“Adam plays an island, and ponders.” *pause* Adam must be pondering a lot about his life choices. “He rearranges the top 3 cards” Oh. You meant the card.
I also think you were unfairly targeted. Your board wasn't very scary but he attacked you the most which is weird. Because kykar was clearly the scary one. Big misplay on the wanderer's player part.
I'm a little disappointed scott went with the t1 wild growth instead of the elves, when if he did, he could've still cast both wild growth and elvish archdruid next turn.
Yuriko is still sad that nobody is capable to bring a half decent list of her. Holy shit, one the faster decks of the format doing NOTHING for such long time.
xMetalxSonicx Yuriko might not be as sad as you think. If it helps, I don’t typically post games that are under 15 minutes, of which a lot tend to involve Yuriko.....

I’m liking this new sponsorship with Yuriko, the Tiger’s Shadow.
Purphoros doesnt trigger Kykar or Saheeli. It's a creature on the stack at all times.
You're totally right! We caught that same interaction while filming, which is why no tokens were put into play.
I immediately stopped the video and scrolled down to the comment section to see whether someone already brought it up. Well done :D
You show the Sword of Feast & Famine at the end when you're talking about Kykar. I assume you meant to show Kykar there?
"Tough to say what went wrong"
I saw a truck load of things that went wrong with just that list alone.
-Not enough turn 1 evasive creatures
-Equipments
-3 drop or beyond mana rocks, too expensive to utilize in a Yuriko deck
-Too many dead win more cards that don't contribute to board state
-Too many expensive sorcery that ends up being dead because Yuriko will never reach the mana base to cast them in the first place
some cards are just good to be flipped by yuriko. Source:Draco
100% agree
I wanted to make a Yuriko deck and have been watching videos for ideas. Any suggestions?

I really like the new touches you do in the games, with a bit of nice comments On-Table and the beutiful speaking in the Intro ^^
3:31 Scott someone scribbled all over your cards!!
The moment Momir Vig hit the battlefield I panicked, having flashbacks from that other game with Maelstrom Wanderer.
Maelstrom Wanderer is such a fun commander to play! Tribal 7 drops is actually a valid option! 😄

That was a sad Yuriko showing. Poor Peter never seemed to draw another creature.

Scott should have played the dork first. Turn 2, he can tap it to wild growth a land and still have 3 mana for the Elvish Archdruid.
Scott with the Signature tribal deck.
