    I have a thing for old Ford Tractors! I recently heard of an opportunity to own one, so I took that opportunity! It's been sitting for 10 years, without starting, but I'm going to try to bring it back to life!

    I put a lot of miles on an 8n as a kid in my grandfather's fields. I vividly recall that the bottom of my right foot was always hot and sweating as the muffler barely passed below the footboard. It amazed me that it never caught the hay on fire.

      My grandfather just picked up a beautiful 8N yesterday! So jealous! His has the footboard setup like you are talking about!

    I like watching someone else struggle with the maintenance of a 2 N, like I have. And I can learn any new tips or tricks.

      It's definitely a struggle! I was able to get it fired up now, but it is smoking from the block. Not sure if I'm going to need new rings or what, but the updates will all be here on RUclips!

    Ford tractors always came with a crank. That looks just like my father's tractor except my father's tractor was never converted to 12 volts. Dad's tractor was solid gray and we took care of it. Many times I have spent 14 hours on that tractor and I'm not kidding.

    Wow what a slava on to remove the bonnet ( hood ) the little grey fergie’s you just lift the bonnet and the fergie’s have a accessibil Hand crank whole protruding through the bonnet , still cool to see the difference between the both tractors

    The lot where our family home was built, was cleared by a man and a Ford tractor, maybe around 1951. I wasn't too old, but I can still see it in my head ...

    I am 78 and lived on the farm all we used was Ford. Had an 9n and 8n. The 2n did not have Ferguson badge. The trans you have is a after market add on. The orignal was three speed only. Ford started making the 9n so they could rise the price because of the war. There other changes Ford made but I don't remember them. There sites that will tell all the changes Ford made. I don't know why Ford and Ferguson broke up but after 1942 is was know longer Ford Ferguson only Ford.

    I liked our little 9N you could steer it with your feet while you lit your ciggy or ate lunch whatever. We had tractors that the starters never did work so we just parked on a hill in the yard.

    Don't assume you have a 12volt conversion. Check the coil. Check ALL the wiring. Otherwise you could have smoke. My 46 had been "converterd" at some point until the coil burned up. Dont assume anything. Change all fluides and filters. Plan on belt, carb kit.

      Thank you for your helpful reply! I did run all the wires back and everything is wired as a true 12v conversion. I also just ordered a carb kit for it. This it should run like a dream!

    You opened a huge can of worms. I bought a 52 8N a few years ago that hadn't ran for about 5-6 years. Got it running...but I'm pretty sure you can't not get them running unless really fubar'd. Decided to change my manifold that was cracked...and ended up doing a full restoration when I had it torn down including new paint and about $2000 in new parts and tires...lol. Great stores for parts...Just8ns.com, steinertractor.com/, yesterdaystractors.com/, Dennis-Carpenter.com .

    I would run a magnet in the starter hole to see if there is any starter gear left that could pop up jam the flywheel

      That's what I ended up doing in a following video. I got an inspection camera, and found some gear material down there. I extracted it piece by piece with a magnet!

    A 6 v starter can handle 12v forever. The leak underneath appears to be the result of water getting in,via the shifter boot and freezing. If you are in a frost-free climate,disregard!

      I agree with the water getting in! The shift boot is definitely not a water tight seal anymore. It also sat right under the edge of the roof, where it just dumped on the tractor! So you are likely correct!

    Be careful working on the battery around the gas cap. There is a battery cover made for that tractor.

    This is kinda dated but if you haven't torn into it yet this is gonna make you sad. That hole is your hydraulic pump. Apparently you live in a colder climate and the tractor got water in the transmission and broke the pump cams. Pretty common thing to happen. Recommend finding a new pump. Very seldom can you weld up a pump casing.

      I was able to find a used pump online. I rebuilt the pump with new parts and everything is working great!

      @@JakeHarrington Steiner tractor, Yesterday’s Tractors website, N Tractor Club sources for parts from the grille to the PTO cap. Is that a F100 Ford? I have a 1959 F100 and a 1949 8n that I am in the process of rebuilding the engine.

      @@jameslester3861 Yes! I have a 1963 F100. That's my biggest project right now! I go through most of the restoration on my channel. It's been an awesome project! Mine came with a 292 Y block which appeared to be dug up from the bottom of the ocean lol

    I came over to your page because of your Facebook post on one of the group's.
    Your 2N is from the range of mid 1944 to 1947. If you can't read the serial number look at the casting code right by your starter on the block. What is the last number? It will either be a 4,5,6, or 7
    That pump underneath looks like it's cracked in the video. Probably why there is a leak. Good luck.

      Then you have a 1946. Just double check the serial number located to the right of the oil canister. You'll need to shine it up. Since that is the casting mark as to when the mold was made it doesn't necessarily mean it was assembled in 46 if by chance the mold was made at the very tail end of 1946. I've read were after stuff was casted it could of sat somewhere several weeks before it was used. There may also be casting codes on your axle housings. Around mid 1946 they started putting them on there. If yours doesn't I'd expect it to be a early 46.

      9n had the girder style radius rods( from axle back to steering box area), the 2n & 8n had the oval radius rods. Neither had running boards just foot pegs(that had to be uncomfortable)but you can get after market running boards for 9 & 2n tractors now.

    The starter gear explodes when people convert them to 12 volt and dont change the starter.

    Be anal about making sure it is in neutral before starting unless getting run over sounds fun. Be careful.
