I love Lux. And that's so incredibly true. Strict parents are also the most oblivious to what's really going on with their kids, because if they acknowledge their kids are doing the opposite of what they are trying to enforce, they will also have to acknowledge it's completely failing.
I had extremely permissive parenting and my bf had a strict religious upbringing and I can say with confidence, you should always meet your children in the middle. But honestly, believe it or not, the strict parenting was a much bigger fail. I mean, being allowed to drink and use drugs and do whatever I wanted just took away most of the appeal 😂 and he still has severe psychological problems because of the insidious shame at being human that he was taught. I wish I had been raised better, but at least I don't hate my mother for making me hate myself :(
It's a great way to make your kids resent you and get as far away from you as possible when they grow up!

Those flower hats are genuinely great for sensory difficulties as an autistic person, I think it’s quite upsetting he stopped using something that helped him just because of what others may think

    • @the0neBoio
      @the0neBoio 29 дней назад +8

I get that, but I don't really get why such a hat is needed. Normal swimming-goggles (I think that is the word for those) would also keep shampoo out of someone's eyes while being more handy and less weird for others.
That doesn't mean that I say that it is good that he gave up using that hat, just that I think there are better solutions.
But I get that being autistic and used to something means you don't want to replace that (For context: I myself am autistic, I was diagnosed when I was like 4 or 5, I'm turning 18 in 11 days..I get that every autistic persons experience is different, I never had any problems while showering so I can't directly relate and hope my comment doesn't sound offensive)

@@the0neBoioswimming goggles would go across over the hair on the back of your head though, blocking easy access to the hair for showering. (Would be more problematic with long hair though). But on the other hand The shower hat thing is designed to stop soap from being in eyes while providing as much easy access to the full head of hair as possible. Also goggles can shift and let water in if you move the strap to get to the hair, or can fog up and block vision. So the shower flower does seem to actually be the better option. Also In my opinion I think it looks less weird then pulling out goggles for a shower, least the hat is made for showering (though neither should be viewed as weird, especially if it helps people).
I’ve never used either for showering, but looking up products and knowing how goggles are when I’ve gone swimming makes me think the hat would actually be better for this purpose

Ohhhh boy was my sexual education class in primary school comprehensive - Ms. Doane, bless her incredible soul, opened the first day of class by telling all of us sixth graders to go up to the whiteboard, grab a marker, and just jot down every single thing we’d ever heard of, seen, or thought we knew about sex. 12-13 year olds, to be clear.
That poor board looked like some virgin pervert’s wall-scribbled incoherent sex manifesto by the time we were done with it. She spent the rest of that first class going through every single thing each one of us had written, joke or not, and gave a thorough, objective, and understanding explanation of whatever it was. She even had whoever scribed the weirdest shit elaborate on it enough so she could understand what they meant and give it the same respect.

Not a parent but if I ever have kids, as awkward as that conversation would be, I’d rather they be safe??.. it kind of reminds me of growing up- my sister would go to house parties and nights out and very (very) occasionally she would end up calling one of my parents in the middle of the night to ask if they could pick her up because she was sick, or because she missed a bus / train and didn’t have a way home
I doubt my parents relished being woken up (or at least being made to get out of bed as I think they used to keep an ear out to make sure we got home ok) - but I do remember they never got mad at her, for drinking or for calling them. Like I say, it happened very very rarely, and I think they always wanted us to know that we could call them, and that they’d rather us call than sneak around and be stranded or walk home alone at night … I don’t know, maybe not the same thing but I do have a feeling that kid (OP) probably won’t trust their mum with something like that again for fear of how she will react, and act, afterwards.

My school did have a mixed sex ed class in middle school, but there was one special “girls only” assembly in our last year of grade school (the boys had their own assembly at the same time, in the gym instead of the auditorium) where they gave us a brief rundown about puberty and the changes we would soon be experiencing, and they did show us how to use a pad, but all they said about tampons was “when you’re a bit older, you might decide to switch to tampons, but we recommend starting with pads.” Which, admittedly is fair advice when you’re talking to 10 year olds, but they could have said a bit more than that about them

That story actually made me realize my private Catholic elementary school actually had more comprehensive period product education than my public middle school did. It was in 4th grade and we were separated from the boys for it but I remember the catholic school nurse sitting down and explaining how to use an tampon and demonstrating how to use the applicator and I’m pretty sure she even explained that it wouldn’t make you loose your virginity when one of the girls asked. I don’t remember any talk of period products at all in middle school - maybe they figured all the girls already knew at that point? But all I remember of that sex education was them talking about STDs and nothing about periods or sex itself at all.

AND to make it worse only recently was a law passed that made it so you COULDNT discriminate against natural hairstyles which led to discrimination towards people of color largely bc they have hairstyles that people see as “unprofessional” (which is ridiculous) but the fact that it took so long for this is wild, but as far as piercings, tattoos, and hair colors if they don’t want it there’s nothing stopping them

Conservatives will be conservatives and find a loop that allows them to exploit a system that wasn’t meant for them. You can turn down 10,000 employees because they all come in with piercings and you don’t like piercings. You can have 100 black employees come in And hire absolutely none of them because you don’t like “n word”. You can have an entire white staff that looks like they belong in a cookie cutter neighborhood from the 60s. As long as you don’t tell any of the people you didn’t hire, that the reason you didn’t hire them is because you’re a bigot, you can’t get in trouble for it. You can take somebody to court for speculation. But if they’re a well-behaved narcissist in public no one’s gonna listen to you. The system here has bred a bunch of really good liars. i assume she thought pegging was something else entirely and that's why she called it gross, i have plenty of situations where i forget what certain sex terms are and have to be constantly checking again to make sure i'm not fucking up. then again, she could have googled it, but sometimes hindsight is 20/20 and so

To kind of answer about the whole thing regarding tattoos and piercings and whatnot, I've heard of a number of people with those things being denied, but they give a generic reason of something like "we chose a different candidate" or whatever. They're not gonna come out and say that your tattoos and piercings, skin color, orientation, religion, any of that is the reason why you are denied from a job, they will find basically any other excuse not to hire you

The woods one pisses me off. I hate when parents force their teenage kids to go and hide and have unsafe sex. I remember trying to do it with my ex in my van or her car and we'd parked behind closed stores in the back alley outside of the cameras and some dude turned on his back lights and came with a flashlight over the top of the fence and forced us to leave. Like leave us alone dude nobody is breaking into your house what the fuck.

In the US! Recently just got fired for no reason at all after 2 years tenure and with no warnings or reason to believe I'd be fired. Now I'm in financial instability! The US is amazing 🙃
