I will be honest as much as I love you getting a profit I find these more interesting. Only so many times you can watch a RUclipsr replace a cap or faulty chip before it becomes quite ordinary. I love your pushing yourself and learning and trying much riskier repairs such as a reball etc as this makes you quite unique among the repairers I watch who just stagnate at its needing a reball its not repairable. Keep up the awesome work.
Hey joey, i had the same issue with the ps5 and i replaced the ssd controller with the 6 memory chips around and the boot sequence went from 220 to 310 and the console powered on I suggest you replace the ssd controller cause its the most common issue with ps5 beeps but no light and if that didn’t fix it then replace the ssd memory also Note: cover the diy and try using a board heater so you dont use too much heat cause it can kill the ssd controller
If you replace all the SSD chips will the console still work? Won't it be like no files found then refuse to boot? I know the series X looks for encryption key on the SSD and if it didn't find it then it's a brick.
@@FreeWhilly734 no the ssd is replaceable on the ps5 unlike the xbox 😅 Even the xbox are replaceable but you have to clone it with the new ssd or make a copy of the partition where it has the encrypted key and paste it on the new ssd
About reballing BGA-IC's. Apply a thin film of flux, and pass a little heat over it to even it out. Then apply the balls, preferrably using a jig to have a very small clearance between the IC and stencil while applying the balls. That way you shouldn't have balls lifting with the stencil. Also, preheat board before placing the chips or you might risk cooking them
I love that with every episode the pile of electronics behind Joey gets bigger, I'm curious if he's swimming in a pool of components while filming, a room tour would be a funny clip!
Joey, I'd be really interested to see your parts collection at this point. You've been pretty unfortunate with some of the repairs and you usually have multiple parts on hand, so i'm wondering just how large your collection of donor boards is, let alone spare parts.
Would love to do a video on this, but don't really know how I would structure it lol. There's so many different parts for each console! Great idea though 👍👍
Tip for using the thin DDR templates, use a tempered glass screen protector on top of the Stencil whilst pushing down. It will stop the edges curling up.
Hi Joey, got same issue (single beep-on, no leds..) from a PS5 which was plugged off while running (sigh..). I suspect issues with SSD controller but I'm still struggling. Hope for your fix! Great work always
Sally’s spectacular spreadsheet is taking a right kicking of late! I fear she may have not taken into account negative profits!! I love joey and his passion, I am tempted to start a go fix, sorry, fund me page! Keep chipping away Joey sir! Every job is a step along the learning curve! Stay amazing sir!
I can tell you it's normal for Samsung memory to have a much lower resistance than Micron on a GFX card - Loved the solder paste reball with no stencil 🤣👊
hey joey Ive never used a stencil before but Ive seen others use them quite a bit but I think you are going a bit to heavy on the solder paste. give it a lesser mount next time may not fix the issue but worth a try i think. and i also hear that using a higher grain solder paste makes it easier too. good luck with your future videos. as always very entertaining, and great insight into your trouble shooting process thats something I could stand to learn quite a about
One thing I have noticed working on GPU's is that Micron RAM gives a higher reading than Samsung. Samsung is typically around 20-30 ohms, while micron can be from around 40-100ohm
Here is my option for you . Main channel : Keep the curent format (s02) repair 2 items for ebay (profitor loss ) + 1 (donated) for charity then create a second channel for random items , tvs laptops , electric bikes etc. More video editing , but the reward will be much bigger i bet . And we will see you more :D
You could consider asking Phil to help you diagnose a few of these. Also, reballing is done with the stencil on and not extra flux. The flux is supposed to be in the solder paste. Ask Phil which paste to use when in doubt you have the right stuff. I am certain he will give you a few tips to get better at it. Regarding the boards in this episode, did you consider looking if the EEPROM/flash are corrupted?
at what temperature are you tinning that pads? and are you using leaded solder? i tried changing chips on a scrap board and it looked like factory, except for pads that i tried to tin. i could not unbridge them and than i torn all of the pads off. thanks for your suggestions.(i was using lead-free solder, flat screwdriver tip and 450 c)
On the PS5, try replacing the SSD controller. A faulty SSD controller can cause the same issue, showing initialization amperage lower than 300 milliamps, and also beeping, but with no lights.
You have 3 options in this situation. 1. Change the retimer IC cos it fails often even when the readings are good. 2. Change the NCP ic cos even if it doesn't Heat up it still can be faulty. 3. Change the ram IC cos it also can make xbox to beep on and off
Hey Joey, I found a switch on the side of the road today… and it won’t work at all…. It was run over multiple times… and had 7 games in the case with it… joy cons are trashed and I am unsure what to do with it and it won’t load up… the SD card is registered to the switch and I cannot pull up any of the data either.
I've been watching these from the beginning and I have to say I watch every episode and love them all. However, every video of fixing these items are the same. Replacing chips on an Xbox or ps. Would it be possible to see a different approach and maybe try fix different kind of electronics like tvs or unique items like drones etc. I'm still going to 100% be watching these videos as they are so interesting to learn how electronics work. It was just a minor observation I had regarding the videos. Love them all!
I love the PlayStation, and maybe it's because I watch all these repair videos, but the PS5 just seems like garbage. So many complicated issues. It doesn't help that Sony, like other companies, try their best to keep people from repairing these consoles just because they want us to buy more of them new. Win or lose, me and many others are learning so much from your videos and I appreciate it!
I think the amount of episodes in you have proven quite evidently prooven that the margins on this are cruel. From experience I can also say that console generation 8 onwards is it just hit and miss in terms of reparabilitym I have now gone through 2 xbox s motherboards 1 PS4 motherboard and have gained enough understanding to know I do not want to even attempt a ps5 or xboxs X/s repair. We need maintenance manuals available to use on the older devices. If Xbox want to push games as a service then being able to have stable cheap readily available devices makes the most sense for everyone. I think what I am seeing is with the board pairing and security implemented on modern day devices we are seeing fallout through this and hardware failure we would not normally expect to see. I have had it, iam going back to retro repairs simpler and you can always make some profit.
Yes, it's minus!!! I knew this was going to happen one day... I honestly think you have more chances of getting to £-1000 total than you do £1000... it seems like you've been having rotten luck as of late. Hopefully things will improve in the future.
You know I'm genuinely curious if the revenue from these videos is enough to make up for all the risks you're taking. I would like to believe that you're not pissing away money for content. Are you?
A beep followed by the console turning off could indicate a problem with the power supply or another hardware issue. Kindly try doing a hard reset by following the steps below; 1. Turn off your console by pressing the Xbox button on the front of the console for about 10 seconds, until it shuts down completely. 2. Unplug the console's power cable. Wait 10 seconds. Important Be sure to wait at least 10 seconds. This step resets the power supply. 3. Plug the console power cable back in. 4. Press the Xbox button on your console to turn it on. If it still doesn't work, try using a different power cable as well as connecting it directly to a wall outlet.

I totally agree, I kinda stopped watching these because it's just the same 3 things over and over.
Agree, hope the sponsor, is atleast covering there losses!!
Thank you for the kind words! Hopefully I can continue entertaining (whether that be fail or success!) 😊😊

That he does not use a preheater worries me.
The donor was micron, which is pretty good ram, its right up there quality wise with samsung.
Awesome work, Joey. At least you got a lot of experience so next time this process is gonna be a little easier. Keep it up man 👊
Dang Joey! Looking for a W in a livestream! Excited to see where the series goes!

Get a reballing station and reball the XBOX APU. And as someone pointed out you need a pre-heater to reduce chip's heat exposure.
reballing is so incredibly tedious though
best episode so far on the serie.

I tink it is normal reading for samsung memory is less then hynix memory on gpu too .
When mine did that it was the power management chip and it would work when it was heated up but wouldnt work any other time.

You need to get a DHS (direct heat stencil) if you want to use solder paste
nice work, this can be very frustrating never give up ! :) i think such a large value of amperes must be caused by a short circuit.
@ToltecMerc has something similar a couple of weeks ago. Replacing the SSD controller chip fixed the issue.

He uses leaded since it's lower melt
@joey Does Tech it could be the bios chip as Phil(The Cod3r) said that if the bios is corrupt the PS5 will not even attempt to turn on.
They should rename it to Beep on/off... because there's usually no second beep
Beep
Meep meep

HDMI encoder I believe issue with ps5 at least when ive ran into similar boot issues
without showing us too many secrets, but i would love to have you show us how you go on looking for such items. why you buy it and why not

1. Change the retimer IC cos it fails often even when the readings are good.
2. Change the NCP ic cos even if it doesn't Heat up it still can be faulty.
3. Change the ram IC cos it also can make xbox to beep on and off
If non of this helps then its another 2 options for this fault to occur.
1. One of the ram chips
2. Apu
Seems like you need a multimeter upgrade.
Try out a Brymen 869s.
Or there's Fluke if you have $$$$$$$
One the Xbox one s check the ram Ic as that causes the beep on and beep off
😢 I'm sorry joey, good luck next week.

those consoles are tough repairs, eventually maybe you find the common failures, whatever they are
Xbox one, swap the front board and reflow the connector on the main pcb

Strange. We actually like board shorts in Australia.
Need to start asking more questions on eBay regarding the item…
