    The idea of buying one of these boxes is tempting, but my house is already full of junk and I just know I wouldn't be able to bring myself to bin any of it, so I'd just end up with more junk to store forever.

      @@BuyitFixit fantastic for plastic repairs as the steel gives real strength. The steel gauze to reinforce when melted into the plastic can be great for some jobs too. I've even repaired a badly split car bumper with them and they held, to give you an idea of the strength. And the whole set is only about £15 bud. 👍🏼

      Yeah. I know it's not really the point. But I'd have been pretty pissed off if I'd spent £50 for that load of junk.
      Did you notice how every item was a never-heard-of [presumably] Chinese brand. Obviously these things are so cheap and disposable they're not even worth re-listing on Amazon Warehouse, which is where returns usually end up, if they're worth re-selling.
      Even the batteries [which were about the only useful thing in the box] were Amazon Basics brand, apart from that one packet of Duracell.
      I still love the channel, BTW. I just think these supposedly random returns bundles, which crop up a lot on RUclips repair-o-thons are a rip-off. Obviously the seller will have cherry-picked any good stuff first and sold on the remaining dross to someone hoping to find treasure. T'aint't gonna happen!

    23:00 I have found that most of the time when a disc catches, it is the fault of the pickup assembly being misaligned due to one of the rubber dampeners not being installed correctly, I think that the disc is supposed to be closer to the control panel in this case.
    But having the foresight to have a rotary tool and grinding bit ready was brilliant, made the fix much easier, kudos.

  • @generaldisarray
    @generaldisarray Год назад +8

    I'm a new sub and I have to say your content is fantastic, you don't turn a repair into miniseries. You take the thing apart, diagnose the problem, get the parts you need, fix the issue and that's that. I know it probably takes a lot of time from start to finish especially when you have to wait for parts, but it's great to see the issue resolved in one video, rather than several over a number of weeks.
    What you can do to the plastic to reinforce it, without adding too much bulk, is take some thin gauze roll, or those thin gauze pads/squares, and use them and superglue like laying up sheets of fibreglass and resin to cover the break. The non-woven gauze gives it structural strength while giving the super glue polymer a excellent structure to bond to.

    • @GannDolph
      @GannDolph Год назад

      @@hanric2000 How do you know it's not a genuine Apple lightning AV adapter? The lightning AV adapter is a very complex dongle, containing a tiny ARM Cortex CPU with 2 Gb of RAM, all responsible for converting a serial H.264 video stream to HDMI on the fly. I've never seen a functional third party knockoff of this dongle and I have purchased one from Amazon myself. They are an Apple authorized dealer and sell the genuine item.
      As far as Amazon not losing money on returns, that is absolutely false. Amazon (and third party sellers) loose billions on returns and sells off pallets of misc returned items on an auction basis. They also throw away a large quantity of returned items by shipping them directly to landfill.
      You can easily confirm all of the above information with a few minutes of internet/google research. In the future perhaps you will consider doing some research before posting factually inaccurate or unsubstantiated comments.

    I'd say 90+% of Amazon returns are not broken. If you're a Prime subscriber it's a no-brainer to buy stuff to try and if you don't like it it's very easy to return. As soon as you've lodged it with the return carrier they give your refund. This box of stuff is practically 99% useless to anyone, I guess sometimes one could score something useful from one of these boxes but you'd have to buy half a dozen boxes of rubbish first.

    • @vlota
      @vlota 4 месяца назад

      The good stuff that's returned either gets sent out again-if Amazon thinks they can pass it off as new-or else goes on Amazon Warehouse. The stuff which gets disposed of in these type of bundles is the cheap unbranded junk that isn't even worth Amazon's time to re-list on Warehouse.

    The reverse camera is meant to be horizontally flipped so that the output is a mirror image. This is necessary because the camera and the driver face opposite directions, and without it, the camera's right would be on the driver's left and vice versa. The coloured lines are there so you can measure and judge distance to the curb or other vehicles etc.

    Very interesting video, cool items and nice fixes :)
    The portable cd player seems to be a manufacturing problem, or even a design flaw. I wonder if all those cd players are not working, or is there some unique manufacturing problem in this particular unit, perhaps some unfinished mold seams that contacted the disc, preventing it from spinning?
    I remember in 2001 when I was installing internet connection to my PC from cd-rom disc, and the disc drive didn't want to spin it. Turned out there was a problem with the disc itself. The center hole wasn't perfectly round, so I sanded it a bit, and then it started working properly.
    That same PC 3,5" disk drive had another problem, the ribbon data cable connector wasn't properly installed, it was just partially in, putted there by brute force instead of skill, and one pin was bent & not connected.
    I found it out, as the disk drive wasn't fully working, was not able to make Windows backup disk, but for some reason the drive seemed to work otherwise fine.
    After I found the problem and fixed it, then I was able to make the Windows 98SE backup / startup disk just fine. Weird stuff :D

      Yes, I watch Vince's stuff too. We've chatted a few times on email as well. He's my inspiration for starting doing repair videos. It all started after I saw him repairing a Milwaukee radio, and I had a few Milwaukee tools and thought hmmm I could get myself a broken one and fix it, and save a bit money! Then I thought oh perhaps I could do a video on it too! Then I went on a broken Milwaukee buying spree 😂😂😂

    46:00 the hole in the reverse camera is for a magnetic slug, you insert the magnet to set the camera into normal Picture mode, without the magnet the Picture is reversed ( as seen on your monitor ) , other models you could switch the picture to normal or revered on the monitor it self.

    9:30 I ordered a box of AAA and AA batteries. Only 6 took a charge to the full 2000mahr capacity. At least that's what my charger said. The others were less than 460 mahr. Most of what you got in the box was low cost items that were too expensive to send back to the seller. Amazon didn't lose any money. Prime membership$ paid for the returned items.

    I believe a lot of Amazon stuff is returned after people try once. Another thing I have seen is people order a newer item and return the previous one in the new packaging. Sad to see but Amazon is so big they let a lot of this slide (probably insured as a loss or past on to supplier).

    The batteries facing the same way thing is weird but becoming more common (I think one of my Google TV remotes does that)... I guess having them pointing in opposite directions is "too hard" for people today?

    • @BuyitFixit
      @BuyitFixit  Год назад +1

      Yes, I've seen a couple of devices that have batteries pointing the same way but not very often. (unfortunately the remote was a bit off screen when I was looking at it) but one of the batteries had the positive side going to the spring and the flat side going to where the flat recessed contact was. The batteries were a brand called "Gritty" ? which I've never heard of. I mean who wants gritty batteries 😂😂😂😂
