Great explanation. I’ve done lots of French knots and I'm glad to see I am doing them correctly but have not used a stand or put the hoop against a table- that will make it so much easier!

That was fantastic, thank you so much. I am no stranger to French knots, but I have always held that thread in my left hand until I pulled my needle through and as you know that it can get a little wonky sometimes I love the idea of putting my finger and holding it there until I pulled the needle all the way through, I can’t wait to give this a try well done
It really does help, especially if something happens like the thread gets tangled. your finger pressure can keep the french knot tidy while you get that sorted out.
i’m doing my first ever project and picked up a design that calls for the french knot (oh dear) but this helped me get it down no problem!! thanks so much :)
nice job I never go through a different place I put it through the hole I will try it this way.
That was how I was taught too, but I pulled one too many knot through the fabric and changed my method accordingly.
Your mission if you choose to accept it is to find a simple way to do a pin stitch on even weave not linen yet so we can follow or there is a loop finish too. Dun Dun Dun. Nugget and the world of stitching is depending on you.

What type of Hoop stand are you using?
What is the best way to secure in the back before coming up to start your French knot or do you do that at the end? Thank you from a newbie cross stitcher!
Same as any other stitch when you can't do loop start. My main way is to start by threading my floss under the backs of a few stitches. If there aren't any nearby, I weave it into the fabric weave.
Great video! how do know how many strands of floss to use with different count thread?

Your instructions should guide you. If they don't for 14ct upwards 2 strands should be fine to make a french knot. If you referring to coverage then it's really personal preference.
I’d like to see confetti stitches. I can’t seem to do without traveling thread all over the back of my piece. I’d also like to see the colonial knot. I’ve heard it’s easier to do.
I have a few tricks for doing confetti stitches more cleanly too. I'll add it to the list of future video ideas
What if you stitch on linen ? Can you demo that
On linen, if the french knot is on unstitched linen, I just come up through a regular hole and then go back down through a diagonal adjacent one, so I'm crossing a small amount of the face of the fabric. If I'm doing a french knot on top of cross stitches, I do it just like shown, , coming up through one of the stitches and then going back down through the same stitch but a little to the side of where I came up.
