I have to admit I was skeptical about this build when I first saw it. I was also skeptical about how the LED’s would look on a mostly natural build. But the final result was breathtaking. I was dumbfounded and extraordinarily impressed. The fact that it actually looked magical took the realism to a whole new level. Excellent build.

The original macahuitl's obsidian blades were tied to groves made into the wood so they could be replaced quick and easy when they broke, so, its basically a modern solution to the same problem.
"And then I'd hit them with the wooden baseball bat in my other hand, which they would not have noticed because geologists can only see rocks and minerals."

Oh yes, obsidian daggers, the weapon that sharpens itself every time you use it or break a bit. Very scary stuff.
If it’s used as a throwing knife, it would a deadly one time use weapon if it shatters when it pierces the target.
Imagine starting with big one that's as sharp as it gets. You'll lightly swing it at a person and likely just go through smoother than a lightsaber in star wars.

Oh my sweet James.....its okay, everyone gets it wrong.
In the Nahuatl language the Macuahuitl is not said "Mocka wittle" its more like "mock waw wheat". the TL sound is not a TUL sounds, its made by rolling your tongue backwards a bit and placing the tip of your tongue on the roof of your mouth. Then you push air past your tongue like attempting to make a regular T "TUH" sound. and the air goes around your tongue making the proper TL sound

Right, the Mayans ripped off the Greeks...
As a decoration woodworker, I gotta say that the guys who provided the wooden club had some nice wood!
SO FUN FACT FOR ANYONE READYING THIS
These weapons indeed used chunks of obsidian as a sorta replaceable edge, but the chunks were design to get yanked out and left in their target to impair them but not kill them, that way the natives had prisoners to sacrifice
These weapons were actually used by the Aztecs during their gladiatorial-like fights.

Fun fact napped obsidian is one of the sharpest materials known to man, with edges getting down to single atoms in thickness!
Yeah, by the title of the video, I thought they were going to mention that.
That's insane, it must be able to slice nearly anything if you hit it right
@@leonardhaworth5632 only that sharpness is practically useless because even a cuecumber is too tougth and breaks an edge that thin! Obsidian Scalpels were used for a while in Eye surgery, but they had the risk of leaving micro splinters, causing complications in healing so they fell out of favour for newer materials.
@@leonardhaworth5632 Eagle Claw is based on a macuahuitl. a weapon used by the Mesoamerican civilizations most notably the Aztecs. The obsidian blades, while extremely sharp were also very brittle and struggled to defeat metal armor worn by Europeans. Against unarmored opponents and animals it was very effective. The macuahuitl came in a variety of styles and spacing of the blades. The one requirement to become an elite Aztec warrior was to capture 20 men on the battlefield, so the broad flat wooden part was used for non-lethal subjugation. Sometimes the blades were left intentionally short and widely spaced apart so to deliver multiple nonlethal cuts, in order to wound but not kill. While these were pretty brutal weapons for the time period, steel swords still had a number of advantages including keeping a sharp edge and having a thrusting point that is better at defeating armor.
@@nyquillusdillwad9119 yeh, there were a few variations. Most importantly, they tended to knapp the flakes used to make the 'teeth' (or sometimes, real teeth). Just smacking lumps of obisidian with a hammer doesn't really do it justice, especially when there are flint & glass knappers around making traditional blades and arrowheads.

Oh my God I just saw the obsidian and I'm afraid. I've made arrowheads with it before, had to carve it under a few inches of water. It's so hard to keep a blade of it sharp tho. Keeps chipping apart! "Find me the brightest LED you can find" Worst LED she found...
Well the power wasn't contained inside the weapon so that wouldn't be so much of a problem, as long as it wasn't extra low voltage.
The LEDs certainly weren't anywhere near the most powerful you can find (even for LED tape), but more powerful = more heat and in a sealed space like that with no heat sink backer it could (potentially) be problematic.
@@YOEL_44 The LEDs she used are low power.
Any lipo battery could power a 50w LEDs for enough time for the videos
@@robspithoff4332 They used a big metal inside the weapon. It could be used as heatsink. That metal part could take 200W if needed and properly designed
True, I did forget about that part, though (correct me if I'm wrong) steel doesn't make a great heatsink because it's not as conductive as things like the standard aluminum. It would've been pretty simple to make an aluminum ring that fits inside the wood pieces for the LEDs to mount to that contacts the steel, though. Maybe that would be a workable compromise.
