@Richie Moremoney if he could die.... Lmao nice one bud😂
If this was the case he could just retract said claws. 46 degrees isnt a lot lol the inside of ur body is warmer than 46 degrees...

(In 14 years) sign me the fudge up!
@Connor Murphy they could be. Depends on how you want to do it tho.
All I can imagine is wolverine bending his claws on a chair and having to pull out a heat gun and awkwardly heat them up so they go back to shape
Nah, the metal goes back into shape with body temp, he would just pull them back into his arms and then they would turn back to normal within seconds.
@@septicsorcerer9620 but what if theyre bent into a U shape
@@nobodyinparticular968 Due to Wolverines regeneration it causes him to have super strength, high reflexes, and a sped-up body system. Meaning his body is much higher temp than normal persons. Not to burning lava level but probably to a noticeable level. As the claws go in they continue to straighten until they are completely back to normal.
But still this so cool
@Sarcastimation Yeah, not only is it essentially unbreakable. It's constantly killing and weakening him.
13:57 here's johnny
Next Version Idea: Sharpen the sides of the claw so that you can actually slice things like a knife.
We can also try and make them retractable and turn the whole thing into a glove which gives more of a wolverine look too
Yea that comes out when making a fist but it’d be dangerous
Imagine being in a Wolverine outfit with the gloves having retractable claws that can self heal and are still fairly tough…..
Would be insanely cool.
Nitinol is very soft when compared to something like hardened steel so sharpening it would be futile.
Claws are a little thin, a slightly thicker ones could end up more deadly. There was a thickness limit for nitinol to retain ability to self-heal?
PS. Thanks, THANOS that I'm already a channel member, Deadpool was a little scary.
I also wonder if there's a filament that could be run next to, or inset inside to provide heat for the "healing".

Hey Hacksmith, nitinol can be reformed by passing electricity through it...we can incorporate it to the claws instead of taking a heater each time it gets deformed
Sounds like a good way to get electrocuted
Lol did you even watch the video, they already put electricity in ones (albeit, in a safer way) AND these are the people who made lightsabers we are talking about. Although, it still does sound like a bad idea
@@palmberry5576 bruh it's not about 'putting electricity'.. they first did it for the spark and destruction...he's saying it for easier nitinol reformation 🤦🏻♂️
@@getbarbaqued9195 Yeah pretty dumb lol
@@5dead238 they have put electricity in metal claws before they know how to not be electrocuted
I think that material would be more practical for making machines or possibly Buildings. In the game subnautica there was a repair tool that moved wires and bent pieces of metal back into place. If it was made of that material that would make sense, the repair tool would just be a heater. If you could make houses and other buildings from that in areas that have a lot of natural disasters it would significantly help fix the damage.

This is some magic of an invention! It’s amazing!
Cant wait until the next 20 years when your project is "Replacing My Bones With Titanium!?"
I wonder if these claws would be better with some kind of stiffener, cause if they deform they're just losing some power, especially since Nitinol is rather soft.
But then we wouldn't get to see the self healing.
You can temper it differently -- we have a pair of extra soft claws, and a pair of hard claws (the ones used in the test)
@@Godsillah88 Sure you would, it would just take longer
Your pfp made me forget that I was on RUclips.
Can you use some kind of internal heating element?
It would be cool if you heated the claws up by passing an electric current through them. Then you wouldn’t have to get your lighter out every time, you could just flip a switch
you can custom make the alloy to return to its original shape at different temperatures, including room temperature, so its always trying to return back to its original shape.
@@Metal_Master_YT and it will be even softer
That's really smart
@@doubledarefan uh, yeah, but there are easy solutions to such problems, some are naturally occurring already, for example, the thinner sections will lose heat faster, and since its made from metal, it is quite thermally conductive, constantly spreading out the heat. and listen, the tips can only get white-hot if the power is flowing through the tips, and how can you put a wire on the tip of the claws, and have the claws still function? besides, if its glowing white-hot, it would ruin the shape memory alloy, its only supposed to get to like, 100C max! that's all you need for it to snap back into place! what in the world are you expecting them to do? connect the claws to a thunderstorm and zap them with lightning??? why in the world would they heat it up that hot? they would burn up the metal in a matter of minutes if it was that hot! you're conclusion makes no sense, I mean, yes, the thin bits will get hotter faster, but you can overcome that problem fairly easily by making the power not flow through the tip, and have the spread of heat go into the tip through thermal conduction.

Why not have an electrical current be applied across the blades so they self-heal and not "Hold on a second, I gotta pull out my lighter"
The tips would get much hotter that the rest of the claw
The larger the cross section, lesser the resistance. It is inversely proportional
@@thephoenix6651 It would go fine with the proper setup. As long as it can create a small 40°C, which is a very small amount compared to what a portable battery could do for metal plates that small, it can easily be done. And it doesn’t have to be on constantly, just long enough to last. It’s not an uncommon method to use electricity to reset smart metal positions.
@@GrimOfDonuts the problem is that the ability to self heal is the ability to bend so it would just bend more
@@a.a.6445 no, it wouldn’t. Otherwise it would have just bent more when he used a lighter against it. Smart metals are often realigned using electricity for a perfect (and often quick) going back to designed shape.
