Love this song with Beth & Joe. This is a cover of an Etta James song. Another one to check out is Beth and her band, "I Am the One" live at Paradiso. This song goes to the way back style of blues, and is a concert like you have never seen. She has a huge catalog of music you should hear. Beth is a rocker as well. Check out "Immortal" live at Paradiso; "I Don't Need No Doctor" live at Paradiso; " Broken & Ugly" live at Paradio; "Whole Lotta Love" live at Paradio; some songs at the piano "Mama" live at Paradiso, " Leave the Light On" live at Paradiso; "Monkey Back" live at Parado. Beth Hart "Caught out in the Rain" live at Royal Albert Hall; "Take it Easy on Me" Live at Royal Albert Hall. There are more from the concert you are watching that are more upbeat "Somethings Got a Hold on Me" live in Amsterdam; "I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know" live in Amsterdam. Check her out, she is absolutely amazing.

That was a really terrific, top-shelf, reaction- very sharp, very astute observations. You’re really treading on “vocal coach” ground here…appreciate very much the quality reaction. Now, Beth Hart is WAY more than a Blues Singer. This performance is from Amsterdam 2013, in the midst of her 2nd Blues & Soul studio cover album with Joe Bonamassa. However, she started off (1996-2010) more as a “rocker chick,” as you said. Today, she’s 50 and does less rock and more singer-songwriter ballads, Blues, Jazz, & Soul. She plays piano, guitar, and bass in concert. However, last Friday, she released her Led Zeppelin Tribute album, so some things never die… Given your background, you’ll go nuts over the following 17 suggestions:
From the 2004 ‘Live at Paradiso’(Amsterdam) concert
    1) “Am I The One” (Amsterdam, 2004; greatest live performance ever) ”- ruclips.net/video/hZG3MghkX3Q/видео.html
    2) “Mama”- (Beth alone at piano) - ruclips.net/video/QK_TjE461Fo/видео.html
    3) “Whole Lotta Love” (Zeppelin cover) - ruclips.net/video/lUaut2m4YaI/видео.html
    4) “Broken & Ugly” - ruclips.net/video/CkusjT5wvjA/видео.html
    5) “I Don’t Need No Doctor” (Humble Pie cover): ruclips.net/video/uwqMicZrUbo/видео.html
    6) “Guilty” (Beth w/ guitar; Randy Newman cover) - ruclips.net/video/teV-s1D3XOo/видео.html
    7) “LA Song” (her 1999 hit single): ruclips.net/video/M3IFV1ywUoI/видео.html
    8) “Lay Your Hands on Me”- ruclips.net/video/c68YQrIL4q0/видео.html
From German TV Rockpalast concerts (2006 & 2011):
    9) “One-Eyed Chicken” (From Rockpalast 2011); Click 4th song - 00:14:21 or ruclips.net/video/bXboKXBZySQ/видео.html
    10) “Bottle of Jesus” (From Rockkpalast 2006); Click on 1st song 00:00 or ruclips.net/video/cHKQHvsKCMM/видео.html
    11) “Get Your Shit Together” (From Rockkpalast 2006); Click 2nd song 03:33 or ruclips.net/video/cHKQHvsKCMM/видео.html
    12) “Delicious Surprise” (From Rockpalast 2011); Click 8th song - 00:33:21 or ruclips.net/video/bXboKXBZySQ/видео.html
    13) “Waterfalls” (From Rockpalast 2011): ruclips.net/video/IU5SL-LSWVE/видео.html
    14) "Crashing Down" (From Rockpalast 2011): ruclips.net/video/K0UWaFKWcAU/видео.html
From 2005 Pinkpop Festival in Landgraaf, the Netherlands
    15) “Hiding Underwater” - ruclips.net/video/kXcNfVeG8Uc/видео.html
    16) “House of Sin”- ruclips.net/video/yLv0QuW8hHo/видео.html
    17) “Monkey Back”- ruclips.net/video/Gjalz_o1Aw4/видео.html
So, there’s an equally stunning list for Blues (especially in collaboration with guitarist Joe Bonamassa), another for Jazz, and 3 times as long for singer-songwriter ballads. For example, “Caught Out in the Rain” (ruclips.net/video/lzdJf7Hqttk/видео.html ) from the Royal Albert Hall in 2018. All songs are hers unless labeled as cover.

    • @ben-schulman

@@asenka11 as I mentioned, the list here (of her earlier years) is pretty much all Rock and Blues-Rock....After her collaboration with Joe Bonamassa in 2011, she did a lot more Blues, Jazz, Soul, and R&B (because those were the kind of albums they did together). She's always written and performed singer songwriter-type ballads throughout. Let me know if you need suggestions for other genres. (I think she's going to do a Gospel album next--definitely not my thing but I'd buy it in a hart-beat.).

Beth Hart had an awful youth in which she used drugs, sliced herself and often thought about suicide. She always thought she was ignored by her father. But thanks for her love of music she's still among us.
Joe Bonamassa is always a treat to listen to. A great guitarist (and singer). He also has an extended collection of guitars (300+).
If I may make a suggestion for your (probably extended) list:
BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION is an English-American hard rock band based in Los Angeles, California. Formed in 2009, the band is a supergroup composed of bassist and lead vocalist Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple), guitarist and second vocalist Joe Bonamassa, drummer Jason Bonham (son of the late Led Zeppelin's drummer John Bonham) and keyboardist Derek Sherinian (Alice Cooper, Billy Idol, KISS etc).

As others have said, this was originally an Etta James song. Many others have done versions of it over the years. This particular version is my "benchmark" against which all other versions are judged. In my opinion, it even surpasses the Etta James version. I don't recall hearing/watching any other recorded version as powerful as this one, and maybe only once or twice have I seen a live performance at the same level. Wonderful that you're a Metal Head willing to check out Blues! Keep it going, keep it going!

Beth didn’t write this particular song, though you’d never know it from the way she sings it - which is as if she had. I am always amazed Beth isn’t more well known than she is because she is so very exceptional. Discovered her by chance in a small music club in Oslo in the mid-2000s, and was absolutely gobsmacked from the moment she opened her mouth to sing. She is amazing, and the one in a generation we are all so very lucky came along to touch our hearts and minds. So very grateful she did not succumb to her weaknesses as did Janis Joplin, Billie Holiday, and Amy Winehouse - all with whom she shares that rare, real understanding of the Blues. Love you, Beth!!!❤️🌺👍

Check Beth's song Leave The Light On at the Royal Albert Hall. If you can keep a dry eye you're better than I. Beth is also a multi instrumentalist. If you want to experience other killer Blues performances check out Led Zeppelin doing Since I've Been Loving You at Madison Square Garden in 1973 (includes killer guitar solo), Yebba doing My Mind, Jelly Roll doing Save Me and Ian Gillan (from Deep Purple) doing When A Blind Man Cries (includes killer guitar solo). If you want to experience another female singer/songwriter that channels her music through virtually every cell of her body check out the young Norwegian artist Aurora doing her song Murder Song (5,4,3,2,1) at the 2015 Nobel Peace Prize concert (about a mercy killing by a husband of his wife to end.her suffering from a vicious progressive incurable disease, sung from the woman's perspective), her song Runnawy (written at the age of 11) from the same concert, her song It Happened Quiet at the Current, her videos Running With The Wolves and I Went Too Far, her cover of Bowie's Is There Life On Mars, and her song Animal Soul at the Verftet Online Music Festival. Her early influences were Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Enya, Classical music and Norwegian folk music. She loves Metal and has a huge following of Metal fans. Guarantee you've never heard anyone like her! The following is what I wtote about her after hearing her for the first time.
She is as vulnerable as finely spun glass and as strong as high carbon steel. Her art rips you apart and heals you at the same time. Who does that? Her art is almost too intense to bear, but you can't look away. She is a siren in the form of a wood nymph. Resistance is futile!

When Beth and Joe get together, it is magical. Her soul drenched vocals, and his command of his instrument in mastery levels, make a complete and epic product to every level of what Blues is great at making. His guitar play is like the framework of a bridge spanning between the soul and the ethereal source of a song, while her vocals in all its depth and range, is the covering surface that spans the frames and provides us with the ease of access to that source, which we merely need to transverse for our enjoyment. More of the stuff these two produced together, please!
Joe published some studio videos of their making the songs, which are song videos with some back story and behind the scene filler which make for great entertainment. When you read more of her story, you will see how these two are such great friends and get an emotional reference to both her and him, with the latter being a rare glimpse not often seen in artists.

Joe Bonamassa is the most successful Blues Artist of all time... More #1 Albums on the Billboard Blues Chart than anyone else by far. He's generally considered to be on of the greatest living guitarists on earth. He plays Rock too and he's amazing. Gotta check out Beth and Joe I'll Take Care of You. The guitar solo in that will give multiples!

Beth and Joe are separate artists that frequently collaborate. Joe Bonamassa opened for blues legend B. B. king when he was 12. Beth also has a softer (but equally amazing) side. She wrote, sings, and plays the piano in Leave the Light On.

You may have figured this out by now... I wouldn't be to hasty to pigeonhole Beth in a music style (blues...). She is incredibly diverse!! She has been flying under the radar for years! (partly her own doing...) Amazing vocalist, always wishing her the success she deserves....

Check her live version of Caught out in the Rain, live from the royal albert hall. If you like the raspy vocal burn thing she does, this song will blow you away. Also Am I the One live at the Paradiso is amazing...Am I the one is during her early comeback from rehab and drug addiction, very raw. She is singing it to a friend whos having a birthday that night. Another one is Leave the Lights on Live version...from the royal Albert Hall

Check out Beth Hart and Joe Bonamassa, “I’ll Take Care of You” live, and I’m pretty sure it’s in Amsterdam. These two are so good together! Her voice becomes an instrument and his guitar turns into his voice. It’s magical! 🥰

When Joe first invited Beth to collaborate, he planned for her to sing backing vocals for him and she agreed. However, when he heard her sing live, he could not imagine that she would be the backing vocalist for anyone and decided to give her the role of lead singer. Beth is a born blues singer, but the same goes for rock, soul, jazz ... Personally, I prefer her original songs that are more in rock style. Her albums are listened to without skipping songs because she can't write even an average song, they are all musical pearls. Many compare her to Janis Joplin, but she is a musician in a completely different major league. You will surely watch "Am I The One" (Lie at Paradiso) and as an important fact you should know that this performance was immediately after her rehabilitation and that she was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol. She was simply thrilled to have survived hell and returned to music. She did not expect that the concert would be moved to a larger space than originally planned due to the great interest, and she was moved by that.

      @ben-schulman 2 года назад

Definitely agree you never need to skip a song on any BH album...The way Beth tells this story is that initially she just assumed Joe would want her to do back-up vocals, but when they started preparations, he said, no, you're singing lead on all vocals. And for the European mini-tour in support of the Seesaw album, Joe was happy for her to be the frontwomen so could take a step back from the leadership responsibilities for once and experience just being more a member of the band... Joe had seen her sing live in Europe (but at the moment I can't remember exactly which venue it was) a year or two earlier...

The guitarist is joe bonhmassa I think he is very well renowned what I love about her is unlike most singers in concerts she doesn’t wear an ear piece she just instinctively knows where she is

    • @ben-schulman
      @ben-schulman 2 года назад

She DOES wear ear monitors...When you see her performing "Am I The One" in the 'Live at Paradiso' concert in May 2004, she does NOT have a monitor which makes that performance all the more astonishing--the call and response between her and the band when whey couldn't even see her down in the crowd. I'm not exactly when she did start to use them but ear monitors became commonplace a short time later around 2005/ 2006...

Loved your comment about Beth leaving the stage to Joe during his solo. One thing I really love about Beth's performances is that she always expresses with her body language what a huge fan she is of the musicians sharing the stage. In this video, fellow headliner Joe is the recipient, but she is just as ardent showing her appreciation of her regular band and other headliners. How can they help but play great with that kind of love and respect from the artist fronting for them?

I'd Rather Go Blind is an original song by Etta James released in 1967. It was very different from this performance. Etta herself used to perform a very different version from the studio version live in concerts and few years later she released a new recording of the song, with slower tempo and resembling her own arrangement, and this performance too, much more than the original studio recording.

Great reaction. If you like good rocking blues listen to the first 3 album's of Joe's. Joe also sings. He's one of those guitar players that feels every note. I have seen Joe twice in concert and it is always a great show. I started listening to Beth because of Joe and have been in love ever since. I think they have done 3 album's together. I get to see Beth for the first time in May in Charleston,SC. My wife and I can't wait. I'm so excited. I know it will be amazing. ❤️✌️🤘
