- There's a surprise coming any day now... stay tuned! However, in the mean time I can't actually believe how quickly the mileage is building up on my Porsche GT3 so as it now approaches 10,000km on the clock, let's have an update on how it's actually going and what do I like and dislike about the car. Oh, and a quick 9,000rpm scream to 275km/h on the Autobahn as well!
In its life so far, my 911 GT3 has been on road trips, attended events, been around race tracks, and used as a daily driver - safe to say it's being used properly! That means I've got a fairly good understanding and familiarity with it now and picked up on a few things I like more and less about it.
There's a big surprise coming, something to mix up the garage collection a bit, so watch this space for 10:00 (UK time) on Wednesday 27th June - just 2 days time... Please accept my apologies for the announcement of the announcement, but I think you're going to be surprised.

I love the fact that Tim actually drives his cars to their potential and doesn't keep them as garage queens. His in dept knowledge of cars and how they differentiate to the tiniest detail is astonishing.

Since I started talking (ie when I was 2) I would tell the name of the car only from looking at the front of it

" to their potential " ?! Ahahaha, he's quick on the highway, but never in corners ! I bet he's never took the traction off, this car is a killer in corners, not particulary made for highway ! Same with the LT, it's easy to drive fast on the Autobahn, but it's not made for ;-) If I had the chance to own this type of car, for sure I wouldn't drive different than Tim, but please, don't say these cars are driven to their potential, their limits are way, way further !

You just opened my eyes and changed my POV on how I should be enjoying my car instead of just garaging it. I have an edition 1 AMG C63S and it’s been more than a year now and I only have 2K miles on it. Life is too short, I need to put miles on it and enjoy it while I can.

Tim you drive your cars in style and with full enjoyment which I can see on your face in all the vids I've seen since joining your channel a year back. your GT3 has certainly held its self pretty well.
The exhaust button is for idle only. Usually when your at a stop light. If it's turned on, its loud at idle if it's off it's not loud at idle [ stop light ]
What a difference from phone to smart tv to see you, still learning very good as always thank you.

Good call on the seats. I've a GT3 with the 18-way electric seats and a GT3RS with the 918 full buckets. Getting in and out of the cars is a VERY different experience. For a track toy, the 918 buckets are great, but as a daily driver, or a car to share with other half / kids......the electric seats are what you want. I think Mr JWW went for the folding sports buckets to try and get a bit of both.

The metal tingling isn't exclusive to sports cars, I get to enjoy that in my Toyota as well after a long run on the autobahn ;)

Beginning to think the Porsche could end up for sale soon. Not gonna be driven much anymore and Tim has in a way kinda said he prefers the Merc over it so wouldn’t be surprised if this time next year the porsche was gone.
Me too, I never intended it to be a permanent addition to the garage and it's getting a tonne of usage at the moment; let's see what happens
Shmee150 you should buy a normal 911 like a Carrera S, you can customize it as much as you want and it would be an excellent sports car for daily driving and for doing all your adventures and laps of the Nurburgring. Something to consider.
I think a large part of it is the seats. Mr. JWW got the folding seats and regularly talks about how practical the storage and are way more comfor.... wait nevermind you just said that...
I commented in a separate comment that I would just buy the set of comfortable seats and swap them out. It would probably help with resale to have both seats as an option. I wouldn't want it with the 918 seats... I'd want to drive it (and be comfortable) more than that.

The racing seats are a challenge, but I would suggest the roll cage in the back is the biggest culprit! :-) That said, even getting hard carry-on bags in the back is difficult because the back of the seats are not hinged. As far as feel and functionality are concerned, you either love the racing seats or you don't. You can't change the pitch angle so if it is to your liking, there is no substitute! Also, they aren't normal seats, but they aren't that hard to get in and out of... just put your hand on the door sill to guide yourself in or help vault yourself out. For me, they are awesome. It's too bad you aren't as excited about the GT3 as you were before taking delivery. You had a chance to drive it repeatedly in PDK and in manual, and you knew what you were getting when you ordered the seats! I'm sorry some of the thrill is gone....

Admire your honesty Tim, GT3 is a great car but there are better alternatives depending on what you use the car for . There are people who will say GT3 GT3 GT3 and will disregard/ignore anything else without even trying. You're in a lucky position to have all its main rivals and therefore value your opinion. I agree with you that the AMG GT-R is the better daily car, much more mid-range punch without having to rev the nuts off it to enjoy it and it's faster!

I specced my 991.2 GT3-RS with 18 way seats for pretty much all the concerns you raised and also did the white dials......waiting on delivery.
My friend picked up his GT3 4 weeks ago and it has now done 10,000 km and it is due for new tyres and a service
The comment about the GT3's lack of power at the top of the rev range vs down low doesn't really make sense, considering the NA motor only really develops torque and power at high revs, whereas typical turbocharged engines have lots of torque at lower revolutions but don't rev as high. Perhaps it's more a combination of high gearing, power-to-weight ratio, drag and the fact that you're used to more powerful cars that gives the impression that it lacks power. Then again, you don't need that power on the street and on the circuit the car gains more time in the turns than it loses on the straights.
It's not quick on the Autobahn, where legally you can push on, it's probably the torque feeling because there isn't a huge amount of it
The car is meant to be lightweight but not overly powerful, which is sort of the point of it right? I don't understand why you knew that before the purchase, but complain about it comparing it to turbocharged cars. With a normally aspirated engine you need to use the full RPM range to get all of the power out of it. J. Martinni is right at a certain speed the drag overcomes the importance of power:weight and the car won't feel/be as fast at higher speeds as some heavier and more powerful cars. Also, Your GT3 makes peak power at 8250 so beyond that its not going to accelerate as hard.

You should check out RingPolice's Seat Adjustments. They tilt the seat a little bit which seems to make a huge difference!

I slide the seat all the way back for getting in/out on my GT4 with the same seats. Makes it WAY easier, give it a try.

Hey Shmee! Have you checked the hoses connected to your exhaust valves? One of my lines blew off the valve causing the button to not do anything. If you press it at idle you should hear a difference. Once selected the valves open around 3800rpm. When the button is off they open closer to 6krpms. (Unless you mash the throttle it seems to open earlier)

Love this GT3 and, myself, would revel in the things that make it an impractical daily driver. I'm sensing the end of the affair with this car, sadly, but can't wait for the announcement in 2 days! Such fun to live vicariously through Shmee....
While you have a great selection of fun cars in the garage, the 991.2 GT3 is just brilliant in so many ways and it is my fave of the lot

Sounds like you need a new Porsche with some other speck.
Maybe a used GT 2 RS, to take the top of the price.
Maybe a 911 turbo S, for a more every day use.

I’d love to see you get one of your cars (preferrably the Focus RS or GT3) to 400K miles just to prove you actually drive your cars and service it well. If you do someday achieve this, that’s a hell of a 1UP on CarThrottle’s Skoda “Miles” Octavia.

Great honest review fair play
The downside to Tim's fleet is that for the most part, they are all new or close to it. This means that he isn't able to comment on issues that come up after a few years of ownership. One such example is the IMS bearing issues that plagued the Porsche Boxster's from around 1999 to past 2005. Another which no one talks about is the foam that gets blown out of the A/C ducts after a few years as the covering of the baffle, or diverter which ever it is called, in the air box comes apart due to age. It would be nice if Tim or someone else would cover these issues and explain what the issues are and how to either avoid them or fix them should they decide to purchase an older used Porsche as I have done.
It would be nice to see some decals/stripes on your GT3; it somehow looks very plain compared to the GT3RS you videoed recently!
Tim, be honest, you really "can belive" it, you know exactly how much miles you put on your cars, these are business assetts, who are you trying to fool :)))

I can confirm that Tim just has bought my Ford S-Max diesel. He told me that "after the disappointment of the X-class diesel, this car made me even wonder why the Aston Martin doesn't make diesels". It's yet unclear if this is the long awaited #shmeemobile #87tbiscomingback

Why not buy a set of the other seats from Porsche and swap them based on your use? If the electrical connectors fit, it should just be four bolts per side?
Firstely, I was guessing its gonna be 812 superfast/ gtc4 lusso but I believe time for something like that has come yet, and my second guess was mercedes g63, you didnt have any suv and as I remember you liked that one a lot..but now I kinda think its not even gonna be a supercar, maybe something just for fun like shmini was...im rather excited to see what it is :)

There is a company called Ring Police near Aachen (good budy of JP Peformance) wich offer some spacers for the 911 to adjust the angle of your seat ;)

that "weird" system in germany what apparently nobody gets is actually pretty easy to understand, if u lose ur plate some1 can pick it and use it, and everything what this person does, speeding etc will be counted as the owners fault

Are you sure the valves work ? There should be some sort of noticeable difference when you press the button ?

I think the seats and the harnesses were a mistake - too much of a compromise unless the car is going to be used almost exclusively on the track

Interesting question: how do you think the GT3 compares to your previous Caymen GT4?
I'm thinking SUV (G63 (used?) or a Urus (lease?) or a convertible (like last year's Aston?), but hoping for a Donkervoort GTO RS (yeah, I know). Perhaps even a classic (E-type?).
You don't have to go to the TüV [West-Germany] or DEKRA [East-Germany] for everything. §19/2 StVZO kinda says that everything that could potentially harm others needs to have documents. For example I got a Frontgrill for my Golf, and in the TüV Documents it also says it doesn't need to be checked or anything because it couldn't harm others.
§19/3 then also says want you need to make 'legal changes'.
Tim, i'm guessing you won't be keeping this car forever - when you do sell the GT3, would you take out or leave the illuminated 'SHMEE150' doorsills on it?
