I love guitar artwork, but as for the ladies I’m not quite feeling it.
There’s a lot to be said fir the Ibanez USA customs that were coming out around the same time
Adding to that Spector has recently released a bass with a Kraken on it that looks really good, it also has a baseball neck that would make any Gibson, tiny in comparison.
During this time in Gibson's history, they were playing catch up with Kramer and Jackson, who were KILLING it with custom graphics. I think Kramer was the first to do a Baretta with the space theme. The Kramer and Jackson artists did some seriously cool stuff and I then remember seeing these creepy cartoon girls from Gibson and we sat around GC laughing at how creepy they were. ( We were all Geetar Center workers ) They still have that creepy factor all these years later. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

Kramer had good looking women on their guitars looks like Gibson commissioned art from the childhood notebooks of future cereal enders.

I used to own the "boob guitar" a few years ago, but ended up selling it after owning it for just a few weeks.
The art work on the guitar looked horrible in person! Was gonna give it the Mick Ronson look, but I didn't bother doing it, plus it did play good at all
The look on Randy's Dad's face holding "Tough Girl" says it all.
Imagine having a 1970’s airbrushed shaggin’ wagon van with a matching airbrushed Les Paul. 🤯 A set up like that, the thing would run on weed roaches and tall cans of Colt 45.

I’ve cringed a few times throughout this whole episode. In my opinion some of the art leaves a lot to be desired. For my individual taste, if you’re going to put art on a guitar it should look absolutely amazing. If I came across these and didn’t know the back story I wouldn’t think it was professional.

@@SirSneakerPimp Yep. They definitely are. The galaxy/space guitars look okay but the ladies, well they're more of a miss than a hit. I've seen boutique guitars that have amazing art on them.
All they did was violate those guitars by doing that’ the art was bloody terrible haha’ why would u even allow that to be released? Go find a decent artist if u want to stay relevant with what’s going on if guitar companies are putting artwork of chicks on their guitars’ don’t just use old mate down the road……

Interesting mix of guitars. I liked the space/galaxies looking SGs. The claws on the cat woman lp were cool.
Back in 1981/82 I was looking for a new axe on 48th Street in Manhattan (NYC). Across from Sam Ash was We Buy Guitars with something like 100 feet of sidewalk windows just loaded with anything you can imagine. Inside had to be over 1000 more. What caught my eye was an early 60s SG Custom, white, three pickups and stop bar replacing the Vibrola. Dead center where the split diamond would be was an abalone naked lady! It was done very well, but as a 23 year old still living at home, a little too risqué to bring home. Bought a year-old LP Standard in tobacco sunburst. Price was about $300; sold it last year for $2,500!

Nah, engraved covers, which are pretty common if other metal parts on the guitar are engraved.
Was not a fan of any of those hand painted units… I remember in the early 80s a famous paint guy came to our town. My childhood friend had a nice low rider he took to shows. He commissioned this guy to paint this naked lady in a sombrero and bandoliers, the art was really good but I knew his mother, she was a very Christian woman. I remember turning to Jack in the shop and ask “what is your mom gunna say?…” it’s at that moment he realized he had a problem hahaha .. we ran to a junk yard and found a second hood, only put “Noemi” on for car shows and crushing the drag.

Gibson made a Classic Les Paul Lite in 2019. I have it and it’s a phenomenal guitar with 57 classic pickups.

@@baker3BAKER dude you've been playing for 20 years... you've never heard of Jackson or Charvel guitars? They make some real nice super strats. Fender makes them, even gibson and epiphone made them at one time. They're all of over the place. Probably within the top 5 of most popular guitars of all time...

my 80 silverburst custom has his initials inside the cavity, I didnt know who they belonged to but now i know. Just now looking again, it looks like I have both initials on there
I have a Gold top Custom Lite that came with EMG P/U’s black hardware and no coil tap just 2 vol and 2 tones. It was built in 1988 and is no. 57 of 200 made. If you like to see it I can send pics.
I thinkg 'Whipping Post' would be a great song for the whip lady axe. The planetary SGs were the best out of this group. I'd definitely ROCK that Marilyn Monroe strat!

These are guitars I wish and hope Gibson didn't use Nitro on.
That red tough girl LP looks really cool, not so much due the artwork, but I really like the color scheme. For me sometimes binding in Led Paul isnt always better, I really like the look of Studios, and no binding on the body but multiply binding on the neck looks really cool.
Now....I'm looking forward to the Marilyn Monroe strat 🤘

I've peed more coherent patterns in the snow than those women painted on the guitars. The line with those paintings should be called "Gibson guitards" .
I wasn't going to say anything, but since Trogly kind of brought it up, I don't think women were this James O'Connor's strong suit. The space stuff was alright, but all of the women look a little off to me. Seems like if Gibson wanted portraits of women they could have found someone to do a better job. But hey, maybe it's the photography and they look great in real life.
