SUMMARY:
- Obviously, you can’t be home 24/7. That’s why you need some extra eyes on your house for when you’re away. So, get on friendly terms with those who live around you.
- Showing off your costly stuff doesn’t do you any good. If anything, it only gives ideas to shady people.
- Your home could be a full-on fortress fit with high-end safety technology and state-of-the-art door and window locks. But if you carelessly left a ladder outside for the day, you could come back from work only to find that your house has been robbed.
- A flash of bright light in the dark of night may help you kill two birds with one stone. It’ll disorient the criminal for a few moments and give you a heads up that something’s going on in or around your house.
- If your lawn is unkempt, it’s a clear sign that nobody’s around to tend to it. Hire someone to do it for you while you’re away so that the wrong people don’t get the wrong idea.
- f your mailbox is brimming with newspapers, flyers, and other correspondence while you’re away, it also sends potential burglars a message that nobody’s been home for a while.
- You can share vacation plans with your trusted people, especially if you need them to check in on your house while you’re away, but social media is definitely a no-go.
- While burglars are more likely to break into a house from the first floor, they can see an opportunity in a tall-growing tree that looks right into a window on the second floor.
- This sounds pretty obvious, but you shouldn’t forget that burglars love silence. They prefer to go about their business quietly so that they don’t bring attention to themselves.
- A vast majority of burglaries are perpetrated by people who have been to your house before.
- If you leave a large pair of work boots on your porch, they’ll get a potential burglar thinking that there’s someone home at the moment.
- As much as you may love lavishness, you’d better at least keep it away from prying eyes. Burglars have a good eye for valuable items.
- Yes, that’s right, your garbage can tell potential robbers what to look for in your house. For example, if you throw away the box from a brand-new flat screen TV, they’ll know you have one.

After I had a burglary, the police told me that often crooks come back, a couple of weeks later, to rob you of the new stuff, that you've claimed on your insurance! So, the following day I put a note in my window saying---
"Don't bother! We were't insured; and we're too broke to replace anything".

Myth. Don't count on it. Load with reduced recoil 00 buck. That way if the racking sound doesn't work the follow up sound will definitely do the trick. 😉
Hex Good one!!!!!!
HAWG! Not necessarily! My preference is the laser sight focused on the perps forehead in the middle of the night! It does work!!!
Hex I like your thinking. I'm planning to buy a pump action shotgun when I get my own place.
@🌟HAWG! That's exactly correct. An intruder won't hear a sound, just a bright flash and a full load of #4 turkey shot tearing his heart and lungs out. I keep a sawed off 12 gauge pump beside my bed and another in my dining room. My wife has a pistol on her side of the bed. Walk into my house unannounced and you won't walk out.

Burglar: **slides every tile and finds nothing but roaches**
A news crew interviewed burglars at a prison and asked them what they thought was the best deterrent. One of the obvious answers was a dog but not so commonly known is a TV that's on. Several prisoners said they automatically assume someone's home when they see that a TV is on. I have done that several times when having to leave my home. Setting the volume loud enough so that someone approaching the front or back door can hear it is a good idea. Or leaving a radio near the door so that it sounds as if someone's home. After having had one very frightening attempted break in and two attempted burglaries (all while at home), I have to think creatively.
Its scary that probably a burglar is in the comment section

Another addition to this, is to NOT leave an outgoing message on an answering machine/voice mail that “you’re not home”!!! Just say you “can’t answer the phone at the moment”. Or something like that.
Who still has an answering machine???
True enough. Hahahaha! Well, you know what I mean. That's why I worded it as voicemail too. I'm sure there are still some people that have land lines with answering machines. There must be... they still sell them. I know what you mean though. Good point. I was trying not to alienate anyone. ;)

Who would believe that your house is protected by a 'well regulated militia' ?
Poor choice. It’s an invitation to steal your guns, which actually sell for way more on the black market vs. legally.
I'm writing these ideas out for single women, children and teens.
1. Keep your windows and doors covered and locked, especially at night- mini blinds, shades, or heavier curtains are a must at night. It's not just for burglars, but peeping perves too.
2. Don't answer the door unless you know who it is, especially after dark. Children and teens should never answer the door when their home alone, even if it's someone their familiar with.
3. Use light timers in your home, for when your away on vacation and for not entering a dark home any other time.
4. Keep a light on or two overnight. The kitchen and living room are good rooms for this. You can use the light timer for this, even staggering when these lights go on and off.
This video just got me thinking. Maybe these ideas will help keep someone out there safe.
I have a sign on my door with the front of a pistol and the words, “We don’t call police.” Written on it. I also have a loaded pistol and a loaded shotgun in my bedroom. When my sister was somewhere from preschool to first grade, (I don’t know when, I’m not even sure if I had been born yet) a burglar had tried to break into my family’s house, not knowing that my dad was home and that we had a dog. My dad didn’t notice the burglar until my dog barked, alerting my dad and making him call the police. There’s a bunch more of the story that revolves around my dad talking to the police etc, etc, but that’s a lot more of the story. Point is, even though they didn’t catch the burglar, my dog effectively protected the whole block from burglars since now they knew that there was a loud dog.

Your warning about trees right outside second floor windows was excellent advice. Another tip is if possible, alter your routine so that you come and go at different times. Don't be predictable. I prefer leaving the living room lights on at night all night. By using LED light bulbs, you won't increase your electric bill enough to notice. If you live alone consider getting a roommate and if they have a different work schedule, even better. The more people living in your home, the safer you and your home will be. Best not to leave your home alone and always have a house sitter. The get a dog advise was excellent not only for providing house protection but personal protection at home or out and about.

I was at my friends house along with my 5 friends and him so about 7 peaple were there and all of a sudden. Boom. We freak out, but my genius friend gave everyone a plan. My job go in the walls and knock quietly and say scary things like I see you, my friend#1 (girl) got in a white gown and stood in the hallway and put her black hair in front of her face, the dude was scared then my friend comes and says I See You. He Left with nothing but fear
I'm gonna say this to a burglar xD
THIS VIDEO HELPS ME A LOT RIGHT NOW
When shooting an intruder, having the lights on in order properly acquire your target is a lot better than shooting a relative or someone who was supposed to be there...

And their friends, Colt, and Glock
“Well were just not gonna let you walk out of here”...
Heckler and Koch...
Or their Austrian friend, Glock. However, I've heard that Savage Steven can be a bit ... well ... savage...

Movie logics: lets turn on the light
I have professional iron bars installed on the back windows of my house and I have a professional iron door on my basement and backdoor to my porch + a six-foot privacy fence around my property with thorny shrubs planted on the inside of the fence. Yes, I may seem a little overboard but I've been robbed at gunpoint when I was in college and I have never forgotten that feeling of helplessness.
Plan to go shopping, or go to any other place your car might be stolen? Don't use your actual home address for "HOME" on your GPS. Try the local police station instead. That way car thieves won't discover where you live while you aren't at home... shopping!
Keep your bushes trimmed, especially around windows and doorways, make sure your exterior lights are high enough not to reach from the ground, put authentic alarm company signs in your front yard, and my favorite, leave lots of empty shell casings scattered around your front entrance. That will make it look like you are familiar with the "Castle Doctrine" and firearms.
couple of people I know have their Home set to the local police station
You could also use those bushes for defensive measures if they are some type of thorny bush.
@@cloudstrifeification That's would be great and all that but...

Also if people(service workers) are visiting your home. After they leave always check bottom floor windows to make sure they are still locked. Potential burglars can while they scope out your home leave one open for later. So ensure they are still LOCKED.
Well, jokes on you, I am home 24/7
And I don’t have a kitchen window
How to make a burglar leave
Have The home owner install crazy yeet alarm and when the burglar breaks in the alarm sound like you being insane screaming like this
YEET! YEET! YEET!
The burglar will be like what the Frick and they will leave because they will think you’re insane
I like that 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
