watched this during a break from my exam revisions (im doing an oral on cannibalism in media), good surprise but it reminded me i should get back to work
Long live the Kinks indeed! The blonde girl was playing the part of the 'well-respected man' who turns out (in their imagination) to be a cannibalistic serial killer, luring young women to his home... I thought it was a valid creative interpretation, dialling up the gentle satire of Ray Davies's original song to another level of madness!
The entire point is that it subverts the song's obvious meaning. Even in its original form, we get the impression that there is something not quite right about the protagonist's perfect facade. The lyrics make clear that he's hiding something and is sexually frustrated- "but his mother know best". In this film, he's hiding that he is a cannibalistic serial killer. I think it's pretty funny for a short film idea. They are also young, give them a break. It's original at least.
It's a song about his life being boring and conventional - as far as I can see. There's no menace in it at all. So I didn't find the film gelled with the song that well. But hey each you their own.
@@user-oo8xp2rf1k - This isn't a music video, it is a creative film and so they have taken a song about a man who is incredibly conformist but sexually frustrated (in the lyrics) and turned him into a serial killer. They are young filmmakers. It's actually quite impressive as they are pre-film school age and one of the things they teach at film school is to subvert expectations in choices like this. I also disagree about the lyrics. The song is satire. It is about a man desperately trying to conform and be perfect but he is actually sexually frustrated and under his mother's thumb. "And he adores the girl next door, 'Cause he's dying to get at her, But his mother knows the best about The matrimonial stakes." This literally distributes Norman Bates, the protagonist in Psycho. Real-life serial killer Ted Bundy was a law student who worked with the state's Republican party. He was hiding behind conformity. So is he really "oh so healthy in his body and his mind", or does he just want you to think that? I've worked in the arts my entire life and so I think it is important to encourage young people who show an imaginative creative flair. Only a tiny fraction of people are truly creative. Most would just interpret these lyrics literally but where's the creative input in doing that? Not to sound pretentious but the reason people admire Picasso is due to his creative interpretation of reality. The world needs creative minds and they should be encouraged. Sorry to waffle, have a great day.
I loved this short film. It's inspired, darkly comical and subverts expectations. I've known the song for years and always felt he was hiding something and a bit of a Norman Bates. It's the line in the song about his sexual frustration "but his mothers know best". Keep making films and don't let the boring and uninspired get you down.
I didn't know what to expect. I just finished a video showing the invention of *heavy metal* across the Pond and it featured the Kinks' *You Really Got Me*
And so well deserved! One of the absolute top British songwriters and musicians of an era that was bursting at the seams with great songwriters and musicians. 🙂
I think some people here are being very mean about your film. I loved the way you took Ray's gently satirical lyrics and amped up the basic idea to the ultimate degree of madness/horror. I like the way you let it unfold slowly, too. Very nice indeed.
What a delightfully creative mini-film! Ms. Nalei, if you decide to work in the film/TV field I wish you nothing but the best. I think you could be quite successful.
This film would have suited a Kinks song with a sinister Gothicky undercurrent better-Rosemary Rose.... or Wicked Annabella ..or Creepin' Jean..but it's really none of my business.
who is listening to this 11/11/2023 from my childhood
Still listening on 11/24/2023 and I'm 68 years old. In the 60's when it came out I was in Elementary School and probably was 10 or 11 years old.
53 yrs old love this song. Older brothers and cousins, so I got to listen to all the great music and obviously still do.😊
7th December 23. 71 years old. The sound of the Kinks and all our amazing British groups were the aural landscape of my early, rebellious teens. 🙂
Always loved the Kinks. So many great hits. Love the song. ❤
watched this during a break from my exam revisions (im doing an oral on cannibalism in media), good surprise but it reminded me i should get back to work
This was terrible. The film wasn’t remotely related to the lyrics. But, the song is great. Long live the Kinks!
Don't hate the hater hate the hater

I used to night cruise in my ‘64 GTO when this was hot,in 1965.
What a great freaking band
Heard the Kinks all my life. Grossly underrated. I appreciate them more each year.
les Kinks, que du bonheur
Having 'matured' in the early 1960s, I've always fancied the English 'dolly bird' look.
Still do. 😉😊

That's true. The mainly sexual frustration in the short filme its you waiting for some mouth kissing and just having some mouth blood!🧛♀

Two very pretty gals. Great tune. -- A long-time Kinks fan.
Well, that came to an unsettling conclusion! Well done!!
Hard rock with folk values
Fantastic. 👍
I love the look starting at 1:41. "She'll do."
Dope
Interesting interpretation of a classic tune. Well done.
Ray … is now Sir
Well fuck me.

Well shot guys.

You get it :) The mean comments make me laugh, but I do appreciate you
What in the world?
What a delightfully creative mini-film! Ms. Nalei, if you decide to work in the film/TV field I wish you nothing but the best. I think you could be quite successful.

See what happens when you read books ? Put down the book and pick up a guitar.
The film sucks
I love this song but the movie has nothing to do with the lyrics
The film is just awful.
Yeah, but the song is fantastic

Film has nothing to do with the song. Shame I was expecting something worth watching
this is so amusing. where did you film it?
This film would have suited a Kinks song with a sinister Gothicky undercurrent better-Rosemary Rose.... or Wicked Annabella ..or Creepin' Jean..but it's really none of my business.
What in the world?!?
Wonderful classic, not very good film.
This is an incredibly tasty eyesert…
Great song. Not so great short
What the frick was that? Nothing wrong with the film,I would have use another song. But the Kinks are great.

Great song, annoying film
Great song, but film is🥺death by cellulite and 3 minutes too long 💣
WHAT ARE YOU ON ABOUT 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I guess I never knew this was a Kinks song.....
When you see the hight level of lyrics, it's a song of the kinks.
Ugh
WTF?
Kinks is not a zombie group. This video is fake. And should be banned
wait... are you telling me that this isn't actually the kinks and they don't actually eat people???
What I'm sàying kinks is a clean band with good music. There's no link of this video to their song. It doesn't match.
