  • Kirby Allison, Founder of Hanger Project, had the chance to meet up with Wil Whiting, while both were in San Antonio for the Trunk Show. Here is the third fitting for Kirby's Bespoke Casual button-down collar shirts from Wil Whiting; a bespoke shirtmaker out of London aiming to redefine the bespoke shirt.
    Wil Whiting is focused predominantly on quality to ensure each customer receives a shirt that encompasses the true meaning of the term "bespoke," as known with the traditional British tailoring community.

    I’m very impressed with Wil Whiting’s Bespoke shirt making process. It seems as if he goes to great detail to ensure that the shirt fits and looks nice. Thanks for sharing this video with us. If and when I am in the market for a Bespoke shirt, I think that Wil Whiting will be on my “short” list. Also, he seems really easy to work with, which would be an important factor for me in selecting someone to work with. Well done presentation and video, Kirby! Ed

Here I thought my growth spurt at 27 1/2 was the sole reason my sleeves are too short (just found out too short) however, this points to also to caused by strength training to repair my shoulders, as when slightly stretch my arms out, can feel it pull in the back, forget fully outstretching, afraid will bust a seam. • @armedferret
      @armedferret 3 года назад

      I would start by asking him the process to be fitted for a shirt. If it's just "i take your measurements and you get a shirt in a couple weeks" it's definitely *NOT* bespoke, most likely made to measure. if he does a fitting or anything of the sort (perhaps even has a minimum first order like Wil) then you're probably very well off. just watching this series and how Wil conducts himself and does the work itself is a good indicator of what to expect (within a realm of variability depending upon experience etc)

  • @neiltyson6843
    @neiltyson6843 5 лет назад +20

    Dear Kirby, thank you for sharing your journey through the bespoke process. I wonder why you use different makers for shoes (Gaziano and Girling, Dominic Casey, George Cleverly, Dimitri Gomez) as well as shirts (Huntsman, Whil Whiting, My Tailor). Is it their house styles with specific types of shoes/shirts? What's the best way to become acquainted with their work so you can decide who to work with based on your style preference?

    • @bartderuyck
      @bartderuyck 5 лет назад +4

      I suppose the only way to get acquainted with a house style is to have something commissioned. Kirby does a great job of showing us what the process looks like but the end result is best experienced by actually wearing it yourself. And you cannot know what something feels like until you try it on.

    It seems like at this point in time, we should have a computer scan your body and a shirt pattern be made from the scan. It should come out very close to perfect, with minor modifications, such as widening the left sleeve to accommodate your Rolex.

      You actually have way more fabric options with custom than you do off-the-rack. Price of Wil's shirts range from $400-$800 depending on the the level of hand work. The shirts he's doing for me is fully machine made.

    I find this interesting on how a shirt is made and fitted. For me I am 5’9” 160 and it is very easy for me to find a slim fitting dress shirt that is 100% cotton at Macy’s. My shirts fit me well and they are comfortable. I just try on different designer shirts and buy the shirts that fits good. I dry clean the shirts so I have no shrinkage. I usually buy at one of their semi annual sales. I can also understand when a person has a hard time finding an off the shelf shirt that fits them well. This kind of device might be for them but a custom shirt like this does cost a lot of money.

    Superb interactions and education. Is there any reason for buttoned-down collar points? I've acquired an inner perspective (that may have no grounding) that collar points buttoned are for the preparatory/collegiate chap to manage collar tidiness in the disheveled academic years. Your thoughts and discoveries, Mr. Allison?

    Tight shirts are so confining. They're much like sausage casings. Very uncomfortable. I know a better shirt tailor who hand-sews the important areas of the shirt so that they're soft and pliant. The buttonholes are hand-sewn. This tailor also makes pure cotton shirts with silk interfacing and ivory buttons. Cost is four figures for such quality and comfort.
