- This Fourth of July, Angel Studios is releasing “Sound of Hope,” an amazing film based on the true story of a church in a small Texas town that adopted 77 children. Glenn speaks with the film’s director, producer, and writer, Joshua Weigel, to get the behind-the-scenes details: How did he discover this story? Why did he want to turn it into a film? And what “secret” did he discover at Possum Trot that he hopes all Americans take away from this movie?

We’ve adopted five children after having our biological children. It’s the most difficult and most rewarding thing we’ve ever done! I would recommend it to anyone who’s up for a challenge and longing to help and be fulfilled.
Aw! We had five biological and then adopted four (including a set of twins) after that. BEST thing we ever did!

I saw Sound of Hope and was enthralled. If you had not told me it is a true story I would have thought it to be a fairy tale. The clincher on the reality are the ending video clips of the foster children who are now (2024) all grown up and have families of their own. It struck me that these foster children have accomplished miracles in their lives that they never could have without the love, sacrifice, and support of the Possum Trot Community. God bless the Possum Trot residents. A more godlike people cannot be found.
This was a great movie! My heart broke for those babies but was so happy for them at the same time when the community stuck together to help them.
I'm going tomorrow with a friend at a local theatre, just like we did a year ago for Sound of Freedom. Grateful for Angel Studios!

As a foster parent it broke my heart to see the child scream when bath water came on. That happened with me and one of my placements. I slowly turned the bath faucet on and showed him not to be afraid! Bath time became a fun time after that!

10 year foster kid here, 8 to 18. Moving almost every 90 days suboptimal. 3 out of 10, do not recommend. There were a few homes that weren't horrible but the majority were less than incredible.
I have a great nephew going through this right now, he is only 6 and he is American Indian descent. He is in Kansas City CPS custody from state of Missouri. I pray that he can get through this. I could probably seek adoption but I am 60 and disabled. I could not take care of a child and I live in Oklahoma.
@@oklahomafreedom5536 this hurts my heart. I hope that this isn't the case but I've heard that abuse of many types is rampant in the foster system across the nation. It certainly was here in Washington state. Hopefully a family member will be able to step up. Or even the tribe...

Did the foster care system stop paying families to take in children? If so, why do these children end up in such horrible homes? Is the main purpose to abuse them?
Aren’t the families in the program screened by social workers & the homes frequently visited?
I don’t understand how the abuse is still happening in today’s world? It’s on the same evil level as children being trafficked.

I’m 54 and it reminds me of the movies with a moral, with a meaning, with a purpose that I watched growing up.

The movie was amazing! Eye opener!
I was only in foster care for 3 years, but me and my sister were neglected and abused physically and Sexually in the system. We were constantly moved to different foster homes, and only 1 or two were good homes. Then, when we were adopted, we were so badly emotionally damaged that our parents couldn't handle us.

We saw horizon yesterday. The sound of hope playing same time. Sound of freedom we saw. Tearful movie. Good one. I know what foster homess are about. For you have many of them. I was in. Never had family home. I coukd not go on to college. I had no way to get there and reslity check, pay for it? Haha i did graduate high school. Did good. My high school boyfriend and i moved in together. I survived. But i did end up goidd relationship with my parents. But i grew up really no family
My divorced mother and I went to college at the same time. Each of us had 2-3 jobs and took classes part-time. We each had to manage tuition on our own. She always said, "where there's a will, there's a way".
I had no way. Glad things worked out eventually for you. You were able to pull things together. Sorry for what you went through. I didn't see a way. My job i had was to through school yrs. So once I graduated. End of job. I had nothing. But before things went south my boyfriend and I always talked marriage. He had a car. He worked full time. I found a job in a dept store part time. So little by little things worked out. I wouldn't be here today, this moment, if things were different back after graduation and all. It was all hard. A friend sister laughed because all my belongings were in a big trash bag. That was in high school time period.
@@com2375 The system is bad, I'm sorry that happened to you. I was in a similar circumstance. Have you tried applying for a Pell Grant? it's money the government pays poor people to go to school .. you don't have to pay it back.. I know not everyone qualifies .. but it's worth a try if you want to go to school.

I love the movie's commentary about how if we just had more social services to help these kids and families who are willing to take in kids. I say this all of the time!

In the 70's N.Y.
My sister and I were placed in a Foster home.
The husband was a cop.
The wife stay home Mother with 3 kids.
Her oldest son was crazy. He would constantly flash his third leg at my sister and I .
My sister 8 years old and myself 12.
The Mother would hit us and pull our hair if we didnt pick the weeds the correct way.
Or if the dishes wete not cleaned properly.
IT was a nightmare for 3 years.

We had a section in my town growing up called Possumtown.

Wouldn’t Jesus Christ say: “Real true love from me means showing other people esp, those who are less fortunate than you, show them your real true love in actual action(s).” Don’t just talk about it. Demonstrate it in your own life! Unfortunately so many of us are really not doing this=> if we’re being truly honest/sincere about it. Jesus can read our hearts 💞 so we’re really not fooling Jesus Christ. Only ourselves. Wow! This a very powerful message/statement to make. Food for thought.

I don't know where Glenn comes off saying things you don't want to do. Christ said to do it with joy in your heart. Not because you're forced. Because you want to do it because you want to help others. Not because you're extremely busy, but you don't wanna upset God, so you Working 45 minutes a week.. Helping at a community center. Because you want to see them flourish in God's love. Not because you feel obligated.
