- Avoiding scammers, touts and hustlers is a big part of travelling in a touristic part of India. In Jaipur this is as true as anywhere in India.
After exploring the forts I tried to walk away from the tourist spot to visit the local side of Amer, hoping to see a more authentic side of the city away from scams and hassle. After making my way through annoying rickshaws, vendors trying to sell me cheap junk and a guy who tried to massively overcharge me on some snacks, I found myself in a local neighbourhood being guided by the local kids.
All was well until some big guy turned up and started demanding money from me. The kids had warned me about him so I was determined not give him any money. You can watch for yourself to see how that turned out.

I really apologies to all our foreign tourists for facing such scammers while visiting our historical tourist place. Govt. should have to take some strict action against such people who make trouble for foreign tourists.

@@captaineureka I think at that point he began to feel really desperate to get away from them and just kept having them more so theyd leave him alone. The complication starts when the 5 kids that initially took him up that dale was planning to pay, were t the 5 kids who got him to the top, so a few of the smaller kids from the initial group keep asking for more money. Seeing how dale wasnt aware of it or even how he got up he was clearly overwhelmed by that experience when the big kids appeared.
You are better off not giving them any money at all. There is likely an adult not too far away exploiting them. Better to buy them a plate of food.

The minute a wallet appears and Dale's wallet is quite the fat wallet (!) then all sense of genuine hospitality goes out the window. That goes for adults and children alike. Get an older crowd around Dale in this situation and it could get very dangerous.

For a while there, it looked tense and dangerous. Dangerous since the path is narrow and a fall from such heights could lead to a serious injury or even death. I feel really sorry for Dale and all the tourists who are getting teased and harassed in the same way by our own countrymen. In a country like India where Guests are treated as God, this behaviour of local people to tourists is unacceptable.

Alright mate, this is what happened. When you first handed out money none of the kids were expecting it. Because you gave them some out of generosity thinking they are only kids, they knew they could get more from you. When you reached the green t-shirt "big" guy he was surprised to learn from the other kids that you had been so very generous. Seeing that you didn't mind handing out free cash he still tried to initially help you by saying that you shouldn't be handing out 100$ to each of those 5 kids. Instead he suggested to just pay 100$ total between 10 kids that were present there so that they could each get 10$. Now i understand your point that you didn't want to give him anything since he didn't guide you up. To him, he probably thought you were just being generous to all the kids (not knowing that you paid them to be your "guides" as they weren't supposed to get paid at all for their hospitality and basic courtesy). It was very interesting, and even more saddening, to see greed manifest in these kids within the span of this video. It all started with their innocence to help you and ended up being a shee show as you rightly called it. I request you to please only pay for goods and services to deserving individuals, and not hand-out free cash knowing fully well that they can really use some cash due to their living conditions. The free money will only corrupt them, making them expect, or at least be very hopeful, that they will get some free cash just because they interacted with a foreigner. The hoards that follow you will only get bigger because no one likes to let go of a walking ATM.

Nah in my country all of the prices are displayed so people don't have to ask. When I watched the video I am surprised that most of the products sold in india does not have label. It seems they are asking to scam tourists. I mean I just finish doing a haircut today with a foreigner besides me. He only paid 100 pesos. Which is equivalent to $2 only. And the barber shop is well designed and fully air conditioned and they even offer free massages after they did a haircut on you.

The small one actually wanted to financially exploit dale and said he had "trapped/caught him." The green shirt slapped him because he was treating dale like a financial tool and swearing at him for telling him to not tell dale. The green shirt was the most sincere and the only one with good intentions. He told dale he didnt want money and that he shouldn't give too much money to kids or they will bunk school more. The kids were all swearing at him.
