I love how gallant and strong her voice is, (you can really understand her vibrato capability at 1:37 ) And i also love the epic composition of the song according to the other band members, their plucks and strikes were indeed accurate. I give this performance a 10/10
I have to admit that I started out as one of those people who couldn't stand her voice. But her lyrics are so beautiful and she's such a great musician that I couldn't help eventually liking her music. I search for her live videos because she really puts her all into her shows. I'd love to see her perform someday.
I agree with you Kevin! Her voice is flawless! It is so much stronger than she originally sang this song. Her vibrato is beautiful.I also like the long jam and the strings added such a beautiful touch!
I saw Joanna live in 2010 and was so upset that not only did she not come out for the standing ovation but most importantly, she did not perform Peach, Plum, Pear. Selfish of her audience to be so demanding of the forceful talent that is this woman. There was a secret we did not know: while recording Have One On Me, Joanna Newsom lost her voice entirely to vocal nodes. She quite literally went months without singing, talking, whispering... She had to relearn how to sing from square one, more or less, to begin to project her voice in a way that wouldn't harm her. She had fallen victim to her own power and raw emotional voice. There is a very serious reason why she sounds so "different" in the style she uses for her albums/recordings after Milk Eyed Mender and it is because she had sung herself to a total halt. What a triumphant beauty and rare treat she is, I will never not love anything and everything this musical and lyrical genius creates.
Kelly Hanus I personally like her voice better that she's relearnt it a little. Her old voice sounded a little childish and she sounds a lot more mature now.
Studio version = "And I am blue"
Live version = "And I was blue"
THIS IS IMPORTANT SHIT GOING ON
That part 💔

This just makes me wish she did a rerecording of milk eyed mender all in this new style just to show how far she's come
