Wake up people. This guy complains about the way the courts discipline people yet every time he makes an arrest he knows the exact opposite will happen. The bottom line is policing requires you to ruin lives to POTENTIALLY save another. It’s always been unbalanced this way and people who sign up for that position KNOW THIS. For example policing the skid row area probably consists of harassing a bunch of low income people by writing them tickets and assessing fines. Exactly what a poor person doesn’t need. This cleaning of the streets has been deemed necessary because people don’t like the sight, so people acquire debt, because an authority figure has been designated to keep up an image.
So let me get this straight, because he wears a badge it’s perfectly acceptable for him to figure out the kinks in our system. But people who don’t wear a badge don’t get that same liberty. They will sit in front of a judge who’s default is to punish.
While I’m fine with policing people that affect others, most of the time “protect and serve” means how many speeding tickets can I write this month, single mom headlight tickets, and homeless disturbing the peace tickets and fines. It’s more important they follow the rules when it comes to assigning a felony to a young person than take accountability within their department. This guy works UNDERCOVER, meaning he is the worst kind of cop. He hides his identity to incarcerate people but where are the undercover department investigators.
If he knows locking people up doesn’t change them, why sign up for a job where that is the end goal? Hard to believe anything that comes out of his mouth when a guy signs up to “change the world” through FORCE and AUTHORITY.
LASTLY STOP TRYING TO MAKE POLICE SEEM SO SCARY AND DANGEROUS. ITS A FACT THAT BEING A COP IS ONE OF THE SAFEST JOBS IN AMERICA. IT ONLY TAKES ONE INCIDENT FOR A CIVILIAN TO LOSE THEIR LIFE AS WELL, WHY CANT PEOPLE BE SCARED OF COPS WHEN WE KNOW THEY HAVE WEAPONS AND CAN DO HARM TOO?! ITS SO DANGEROUS ON THE STREETS FOR THEM?! HOW MANY FELONIES HAS THIS GUY WILLY NILLY HANDED OUT? PEOPLE WILL CONTINUE TO HATE COPS UNTIK THEY HAVE THE SAME ACCOUNTABILITY. Not just “there are bad cops” how about our job requires us to be assholes for little to no reason and we gladly sign up for a pay check. Most laws they enforce are inherently based on government funding.
REMEMBER YOUR PLACE AS A PEACE OFFICER! Don’t ever forget you are more disliked than liked and every person you’ve locked up or fined should count as a life destroyed…..

That's why I think prevention is key! Youth programs as well as adult programs, especially in high risk areas, would probably be the most beneficial. I like his ideas for rehabilitation. Of course not for those who have committed horrific crimes, but more for the low risk convicts. Personally, I think prevention is key for nearly everything in life (programs for at-risk youth, parenting programs, adult programs), but at least more creative ways of dealing with convicts would be a huge improvement.

It is hard to cope with the way this era handles truth. Our entire species has never lived in a world like this. It has really only been a few short years since the weird shift in communication. Yes cameras have been around and the news has been biased... but there is a weird addiction to outrage now...and the reality is being warped. Suddenly space is fake, the earth is flat, and police kill for sport... meanwhile reality is still there and people still have to actually do this job... it hurts that it is so popular to treat them like monsters. It is fantastic to hear a human like this speak truth without any hot sauce, clearly on the side of good things...
There are interesting problems to solve... as always. But I still feel good being a human.

Your entire career is literally dealing with strangers in the worst moments of their life. I don't have the skills and dimeanor to handle a job like that, and luckily for the general public I was blessed enough to recognize that when choosing my career path. I wonder if cops realize that when they pull over the general population and are complete a-holes they turn the general population against them. At best wiser people will see them as a necessary evil to keep their neighborhood from being preyed on by criminals. There was very little support for the police during the whole BLM thing, probably because of this type of interaction. Its kind of the opposite strategy of the military's strategy of winning of "Hearts and minds." Granted the main stream media was also waging an all out propaganda campaign against the police.

He was incredibly intimidating and gave me a ticket for not buckling up fully before entering the road. I showed up to get a court date and discovered I had a choice of going into a courtroom right away & receiving a judgement-or waiting several months for my court hearing. Not knowing what to do….I called the police department to get an opinion!!! A female police officer answered the phone and gave me her most candid advice. She started out saying: “A little birdie told me…” and I’ll leave the rest to your imaginations. Yes and foster system survivors and those who worked in the system. Look up “Homewood Terrace” in San Francisco and an article with some odd typos or letters that didnt translate well to the internet describes the end of it and notes none of the residents were believed to have had good outcomes later in life which I know to be too real although I slipped through those cracks I see now it was taking a toll on my life like some sort of social osteoporosis and then something happened in my late 50s that broke all my emotional bones those early experience had made me more vulnerable to (though also more tough so took a long time to break). And that was the best home I lived in. Also a cop saved my life as a kid but in my late 50s what I witnessed and experienced at the hands of local cops (while I broke no laws) made me feel a hate I had not felt in my life before no matter all the torture endured. Four years latter and I haven’t healed at all. In other words it took a long time for full affects to emerge (and no help for it where I live if one is poor especially no matter having supported myself full time since age 16) . Those “Schools” and group homes and foster system underfunded and under regulated. In my 40s I worked in the system. There is a book entitled Helped at all Cost in which author’s research finds nail salons have more regulations than those “Schools”. People are told to “Reach out for help” and there isn’t any…no one knows this like children and elderly and empoverished.
