Service Manual for a 2001 Ranger 2.3L states . . . NOTE: Measure each valve's clearance at base circle with the lobe pointed away from the tappet, before removing the camshafts. Failure to measure all clearances prior to removing the camshafts will necessitate repeated removal and installation and wasted labor time. Use a feeler gauge to measure each valve's clearance and record its location. NOTE: A midrange clearance is the most desirable: intake: 0.22-0.28 mm (0.008-0.011 inch) exhaust: 0.27-0.33 mm (0.010-0.013 inch) NOTE: Select tappets using this formula: tappet thickness = measured clearance plus the base tappet thickness minus most desirable thickness. Select tappets and mark installation location. If any tappets do not measure within specifications, install new tappets in those locations. For additional information, refer to Valve Tappets in this section.
This motor pre 2004 was solid outside the intake runner control, and with my 02 turbo 14.6 psi and 3 degrees advance 236K miles making 266hp and 290 at the wheels and I regularly rev up ti 6400 rpm, change oil at 4600 miles and keep temps below 280 and your fine, stock temp for this motor is 245-265 it's strange but it's designed like that as initial design was rally racing, this motor is a good motor when taken care of, my other duratec 2.3 has 490K on it
Joshua Thank you for taking you time to share this information. I have this exact same car and engine. I am doing everything in my abilities to take proper care of her. I am not a mechanic. Is the Timing Chain replacement on this engine a required preventative maintenance requirement? If so at what point? Thanks again
I have problem with 2.3lt mazda3 actually send head for surface and he didnt adjust valve clearance now no start problem so can you please help for adusting them or where can i buy under size caps

You helped me a lot man I’m used to old Honda’s and old 350s and 302s. How did you keep the balancer from moving when you torqued it down though?
It was use full
Thanks alot

Was the engine hard to start with the valve that tight
What position are the cam lobes supposed to be when measuring the clearance? Or do u measure the clearance when engine is timed and at TDC?
If I do have to remove the cam gears, do they have to be lined up a certain way?
wondering if this is the same procedure for a 2.5L 4 culinder 2011 escape?
Yes it is
Can I time my
Mustang ecoboost the same way?
Joshua seems quite knowledgeable, but video was black 90% of the entire video
Your video was good but the lighting was awful
