I love how much you laugh watching this show. It’s so dark, and heavy at times but there is so much dark humour threaded within and it goes over a lot of peoples heads… so I always love it when someone is tuned into it. 🤩
It’s just perfect timing with the jokes. “Who the hell gets a spleen transplant?!”cut to Hannibal adding the spleen into a food processor 😂

The morbid humor in this show is so underrated; I love the dramatic irony, all of hannibal's perfectly timed smug smiles/one-liners, and Will's overall rudeness and sassiness. Of course there is more, but it is all just perfect dark humor
"Nothing here is vegetarian. Except that plate there, he was a vegetarian. Bon apetit!"
I'm sure Hannibal would find Lestat insufferably rude. :P Lestat is a brat who like provoking people. :D
I love how Bedelia is to Hannibal what Hannibal is to Franklyn. I'm not sure he likes being compared to Franklyn though. :P
That medical examiner was not so subtly asking if Hannibal was HIV positive. Basically a rude assumption on the basis of his perceived sexuality. If I remember correctly, Hannibal is supposed to be pansexual according to Bryan Fuller.
Hannibal's cannibal puns are many. I giggle every time though. :P Like... "I transferred my passion for anatomy into the culinary arts" lololol
Hannibal is a comedy. A romantic comedy, Hannibal wants Will very much. :P

I always wait for your reactions because you are fun to watch. You understand the metaphors, the subtexts, and Hannibal’s microexpressions. I am so excited for your next reaction because that is one of my favs in S1. 🙂

I love this episoode! And the next one! Here we can see that Hannibal by asking questions to Franklyn is also trying to understand himself. The ache that Franklyn mentioned that loneliness brings, Hannibal felt when Will didn't show up to his appointment: He touches the phone ("should I call him?"), but then decides to go look for him (what therapist do that!!?!) Then we see Will and Hannibal talking about the Reaper's cases and twice Hannibal tries to mislead Will but Will corrects him, on the third he tells Will a true sentence and Will nods, so Hannibal realizes how much Will understands him! Then at the end we can see a very happy cannibal!
This is one of my favorite chapters of the show, all that Hannibal cooking with classical music *chef kiss*. BTW, when you said Hannibal looks at Will like Franklin looks at Hannibal I GASPEEED. Rewatching with you has made me realize all the small mirrored connections! Also, on the scene of Hannibal with the doctor taking a blood sample, he was basically implying Hannibal was HIV positive. He was asking to be food so bad LOL

To be fair to Hannibal, he really only goes after people who are rude.
I think the scene where Will closes the door on Zeller is kind of like Sherlock closing the door on Anderson)) And here I thought I wouldn't be able to notice more than I've noticed already! Love your reactions! And you look so good, I really like your glasses)

I just realised, in that flashback to the doctor taking Hannibal's blood, just how much his "thing" shows every time he kills. The main motive for how he picks his victims is that they're rude people. The doc was snarky to him in that flashback, so next we see him, he's torn in half. I missed that first time.
Not to mention I just realised he used the organ harvesters as a cover to supply himself with food for his dinner party. If he disguises his kills as the organ harvesters, then he can kill in more than his usual sounder of three.

I am loving re-watching these show pieces with you! I am seeing things with a whole new eye (yours) and I have missed some things. Your observation of how Hannibal "drinks" Will in...I had missed that in these early episodes! And yes...does Hannibal know Lestat?? Wait...can you imagine Hannibal as a vampire turned by Lestat?? You wanna talk about the student surpassing the master? Hannibal as a vampire is such a terrifying thought. Love it!! Looking forward to your next review on this!

I love this episode for the content and the opportunity to see how Hannibal hunts, but there are some really annoying aspects. It really grates on my nerves when Will is telling everyone that the Killer of the Week is NOT the Chesapeake Ripper, and they all doubt him and claim that it has to be. I mean, WTF is Will doing here if NOT to put himself in the mindset of the killer and make a determination one way or another (destroying his own psyche in the process)? I get that the team doesn't really want to believe in the copycat theory, but in this instance, Will is their subject matter expert, yet the team and Jack dismiss his opinion despite the clear differences in the killers' style. Even towards the end, where Jack is so cocky and confident that they're going to get the Ripper, inviting Hannibal along like he's trying to prove Will wrong and catch the Ripper in real-time. And then the lack of contrition when it's completely apparent that Will was right all along!? It really annoys me.
