The monk seems to come across making more sense and seeing the world as it truly is. Even tho as a Westener, I would think science has all the answers and only things that are proven in experiments and studies should be taken seriously, I'm seeing sciences limitations more clearly now. A combination of the both has got to be the best way, psychology and buddism, to truly understand the world as best as we can right now.

Thank you for the explanation that takes meditation beyond focussing on the breath, along with the distraction and the coming back to the breath. You explained the next step or what the aim is going beyond just breathe and breathe out. Get lost, come back. Thank you so much for that, it gives me renewed curiosity to get back into meditation. I have a very ADHD trauma, driven brain and at times be very scattered, need the goalpost, let’s face it. I need to answer the why, if that makes any sense. Suffice to say thank you very very much.

Saul Mackie agreed - after all, it’s a natural progression: the Buddha asked people to verify what he talked about with their own experience. After a brief detour science is finally coming back to the mind :)

Forgiveness is the message of the book PROOF OF ETERNITY by Alba Monn. It's about a mother who has a near-death-experience together with her child. In this near-death-experience, her child asks her to forgive the person who has abandoned both of them after a life-threatening accident!

He is talking about modern buddhism which adapted with all modern knoweldge and psychological knowledge
Original and true buddhism is a religion by which people are suppose to let go on their ego and simply be, waiting for the moment of their death
But buddism evolved in different branches, depending people beleives and nations where it spread..that's why we talk about buddhismes in plurial

A word to the neuroscientist...please keep sentences short and put in more quality into your sentences else the interest in the conversation for the listener fades. One more thing..the more time you take to make your point and put forth the question, the lesser the time for the other person.

I have meditated for years. Reading Buddhist self help philosophy is beneficial, particularly when related by a western neuro specialist. The religious element is, not unlike all theocracy, is nonsense. New Scientist is a rag. Western science has vindicated meditation as a health benefit. Don't let these two put you off.

When he says that Buddhism is no belief system it means exactly that. Buddhists don't do anything because Buddha said. We don't lie, steal, kill, intoxicate ourselves, indulge in adultery or use our words to hurt people because we know how we feel and how these things affects us. Buddha said don't follow me blindly just because I said it. If it agrees with you factually then accept it. It's like using your coon sense. See things as they really are.
The yellow robes are for simplicity. Non attachments for worldly things. Monks wear yellow robes to show humbleness or grounded. You can leave the monastery anytime you want.
