Just curious, why would anyone give thumbs down? All he is doing is harvesting an almost predatory creature and turning it into a delicious food item. Trolls...
Maybe vegans or vegetarians... some people are just not ok at all with the fact, that still many people eat animals... But then they have nothing to do in a youtube channel like this... And then theres some people who just dislike randomly.
Wow your reaction was priceless.. I am definitely going uni smoking with that stamp of approval from both of you. Thanks for sharing. Peace from the North Oregon coast
including the opening scenes through the finish, this was your best video yet. it was polished and at the same time raw. as good as any youtube video I've seen in a while. great job and hope you continue with this format
Definitely one of the best lowkey channels out there. You are a very genuine guy and are genuinely excited to do what you do. It’s great to see someone’s excitement inspire excitement in others. Keep doing you ALWAYS. No matter what people say.
I’ve had a really bad day or so.... was so happy to see a new video from you. It helps me take my mind off things and relax. I also am peeping an upgrade in the quality of your videos. I love how the camera was underwater and you could see you from above the water. Very cool! Much love from Maryland!!
I knew you were going to be shocked about smoked uni. From your uni videos, you were loving it. I've never ate uni, but one of these days, I will! I really enjoyed the 10-20 minutes videos instead of 30-50 minutes videos. Keep it up 👍
Sounds like a fantastic treat. Probably some folks will try this before attempting the pure raw style. For a fresher and more juicy smoked uni try using a smaller burning charcoal amount (this will not dehydrate the uni or overcook them) because of the reduced heat. The other method would be to funnel the smoke through longer aluminum vent even not within the same fire pit area. The idea being that you will still get all the smoke you want without the cooking heat. Totally something I want to try. Outstanding idea! Roy
I love this video. Purple urchins have created havoc in our coast. Time to forage for urchins and smoke them. I think it would be awesome on rolls too. Can't wait to try this.
I am a new viewer and addicted to your channel. I can't fish the ocean as I live in Vegas but as a kid I fished Halfmoon Bay and lived in Fremont CA. Great content 👍 keep up the good work. You have me hooked, fish on!!!
I grew up in Hawaii and as a kid fished because I was hungry, but I also spent endless time just hanging out, finding shells, swimming and surfing and bodysurfing, honestly the ocean was like my living room.
Hey Taku, I was wondering if you have ever been fishing in the Trinity River or possibly Crescent City. Near Weaverville my dad has a great spot that few people know about and years ago we did great fishing for king and silver salmon as well as steelhead. It's been hard luck for some years now but if it's a good fall run I'll be there and who knows, I would love a catch and cook and let you in on the family secret spot and technique for spawning river salmon.
Do you ever go hunting ,that might be interested for you to make episode of camp and cook and get some new followers, possibly through a sponsored gide.
I love the camera work on this one. Editing and just atmospheric shots are so well put together and you really see the love and respect you have for the coast. Plus, the meal looks hella good as always
Getting more fun with the camera work and editing, nice work! I have all kinds of rockfish and uni plans when I move back to Santa Cruz in September thanks to this channel.
As a person who's cooked a lot of food for people I love seeing y9ur excitement and your gears turning thinking of all the ways you could serve smoked uni.
I wrote an Instagram message to you cause u inspired me to go fishing for a loong time and i instantly catched an 83cm Pike while Sea Bass Catching thanks
I really love your expression at the taste of the smoked uni. This is my first time seeing this dish. Back on my younger days...18 years ago, we used to camp in Mendocino where we free dive for abalone, and we used uni to top our congee. I also used to dive in So Cal and purple uni are in abundance. Many thank and Great video!
Mean as vid bro, we get heaps of these in New Zealand, we call them Kina, when you make it over here look me up, I got a some awesome fishing and diving spots real close to home, can take you on some missions. Cheer!!! Josh James
You should revamp one of your first videos and make a smoked uni pasta cuz that sounds so good. Luv the vids and hope you can visit Maui again soon 🌺Aloha🌺🤙🏾
Great editing and the food looked wonderful. A tip for your up coming smoking, don't soak the wood chips in water, since it can cause it to give a bitter taste to the food. Instead use a bigger peace of wood in the grill. 😃
I've been watching your videos for about 9 months and the quality of the filming and music, just your whole production has gotten so clean. The drone is fun to see and you have definitely inspired me to get back to fishing. As soon as covid does down 😭
That's awesome! You can tell you really enjoyed it and at the same time, those wheels were turning trying to think of how to make it better! :D Love the videos and the enthusiasm!
Good on you Chef for foraging and showing cooking technique its an uplifting hope for us chefs out there trying to survive this pandemic BS. And when "Takus Takeaway" 🤔...opens im coming to get what ever you got on the menu that day! Thank you Chef❤🤘🤙
Nice job,I cold smoked uni many years ago when I was in my Alice Waters phase. I didn't smoke them as long but it's wonderful. Cold smoke and seafood is da bomb. Keep up the good work.
Love your videos! A tip on smoking, never use wet chips. There's no benefit, it just creates steam and then they burn. What you need to do is limit the oxygen to the chips so they can't burn, they can only smoke. You can buy smoker boxes or bags, but you can also make a little envelope out of aluminum foil and poke a few holes and that works too.
Only taku can make your mouth water over something like sea urchins. I would have never in a million years even thought of trying this until I seen him do it. I'm from Florida and now I wish that we had sea urchin to here. As far as I know we don't have any here though.
Hey Aku, another great grab and cook I gotta try. One suggestion for your low tide scrambles is trying (I have no association with) XTRA TUF neoprene boots. A bit spendy but waaaaay comfy and grippy and durable.
Can we all just take a moment to appreciate the editing on this?! That attention to detail though... 1:41. Banger episodes!

I still comeback to this vid and get stuck replaying the intro B-Roll shots. AMAZING
