I dont know....Here, in Jakarta, I've met many chinese malaysians and all of them can speak melayu. I dont know if they step up their bahasa melayu because most indonesians can speak english, or they're already used to speak melayu in their home Malaysia. But I never have problems communicate in bahasa indonesia with them and vice versa. Actually the first time I heard "chinese malaysian cant speak malay" was from Quora.

This perception is mostly created by politicians and their hardcore supporters. Trust me. Maka satu bangsa kena label negatif.

Totally agreed. Most of us in Kebangsaan school can speak Malay as fluent or as good as Malay. Just that you seldom got the chance to hear it because modern Malay nowadays prefer to speak English to non-Malay. Mandarin is merely a language in China that's connects all the Chinese from varies of dialects. It's don'ts make you Chinese enough if you don't master your parent's dialect :-))

And in terms of whether Chinese love the malay language or not, you gotta understand that most Chinese sees language as just a tool for communication and nothing more. So yeah maybe chinese doesn't love the malay language, but same can be said about any other languages even english. Hell you can even see some Chinese looking at mandarin the same way as just a tool for communication. That's why there's so many chinese that went to sjkc that gave up learning chinese in high school as they think being somewhat proficient to communicate is enough.

Hello There , thank you for your response bro. But which urban areas do you mean ?
Urban area in London ? Or Urban area in Kuala Lumpur, MALAYsia ?
Why people in MALAY Urban Area not comfortable speaking Malay ?
Because they don’t used to it, or more correctly they don’t care and don’t want to use it.
People who live in MALAY (No Matter Chinese, Indian, Malay, European, etc) and have Malaysian Nationality, Must use Malay Language for daily use because it’s Malaysian National Language, you can use chinese language, Indian language or other language within your own family or close relatives.

Indian People in England, they speak English for daily use and speak Indian to their family only.
Chinese people in England, they speak English for daily use and speak Chinese to their family only.
Chinese people in Malaysia : speak chinese or english for daily use, and speak Malay in emergency only or in youtube channel only
      Language is your identity bro.

@@bartentindangen2505 yes language shows who we are but bear in mind we're living in Malaysia now, a multiracial and multicultural country with a malay majority that recognize malay as the official language. That is why almost all citizens of Malaysia regardless of race knows malay albeit to different levels of proficiency (Even my grandma that dropped out after primary school and lived her whole life in a Chinese majority new village can converse in malay to a certain extent). But yes, we don't speak in malay unless it's necessary, same goes with english. For example we definitely use malay while speaking to a malay unless they started the conversation with english, we definitely use malay when we're in a governmental hospital or whenever we're communicating with a public servant on official matters cuz malay is the official language. But no, ofc we don't use malay when we're ordering foor from the kopitiam uncle and no ofc we don't use malay when we know the other person is more proficient in mandarin just like we are. Ask yourself would you speak exclusively only english with a malay friend knowing that both of you are more comfortable with malay even if you're both in London? If we're starting to restrict what language people should use for their daily use then how are we any different than when China is wiping out cultures in inner Mongolia and Xinjiang by forcing only mandarin teaching in schools?

Jadi jangan terkejutlah kalau kau tengah makan pastu nampak orang cina Malaysia tengah makan kat sebelah kau, pastu kau mengumpat pasal dorang guna bahasa indon. Aiderin Yusof how can you say so? Many Indonesian chinese speak Bahasa Indonesia at our own will. Yes, if you said that we WERE being oppressed, but today we can express ourself freely, even chinese events are celebrated here. We like and proud to call ourself as Indonesian without the chinese title because we are simply Indonesian and we DO speak our own national language. Unlike malaysia, I think segregation there is still really strong, even my relatives from Malaysia can’t speak Malay and they sometimes just like to call theirselves as chinese, you need to evaluate your own country, why non pribumi can’t speak or don’t want to speak their own national language? Is it because they are being treated unequally? I mean, I can say so because you guys have pribumi rights that non pribumi don’t , and your government is supporting it, I mean that’s the very racist thing that a country can do, these pribumi things are really not coherence with today’s world

    Kedua Bahasa Inggeris.
    Ketiga bahasa ibunda.
Kalau nak belajar Bahasa Arab, Alhamdulillah silakan utk yg beragama Islam tak kira apa bangsa., yg bukan Islam pun boleh belajar.

They claim to speak English well but then use the phrase I speak good English’ ; which is an incorrect way of saying it. They also say that they can speak Malay but they’re speaking broken Malay. Just because they can say several words in Malay doesn’t meant that can speak it. I’m sorry for the criticism but this really irritates me. We are not aware of our own biases but people looking from the outside can see it clearly.
