Ive just started making bows this last year and have been looking at different channels and yours is the best by far man. thank you for making well made and informative videos that are easy to follow and learn from, you have already helped me out alot , and again thank you for making good videos and having an awesome channel man keep up the great work
Dude you're spot on. I've had a snakey piece of osage in my garage for like 5 years. Finally after finding Chris' video on it, I started working on it this week. limbs are all laid out, just gotta taper.
this was so much a needed piece of info. now i can quit buying thrift store tennis rackets to strip off the wraps. thank you very much Clay, great vid!
Excellent job on the video sir. I am sure I will be coming back for more bow building tips one day. It is in the back of my mind to make one for myself one day. Thanks again, have a blessed week. Dale
Unreal, perfect for Fishing Rods too! Lanolin quiets everything for me, ive even soaked strings with it. Beauty Mate, excellent post, foiling the leather, Who would have known. Brilliant.
JD! Looks like you've lost a bit of weight, and you dyed your moustache grey! What a cool style of grip! How did you get into making those? Love, Don (PS: Hey DRT!)
Every teaching session regularly consists of two important part of bigining and of course ending, In this video the end part is missing. He doesn't say how to finish that strap! Should we glue it ??? Or .....? But in general was such nice grip . Thank you
It will work with a sanding block or a sure form rasp. There are old boyscout leather working project books that show this. If you want a different look you can wet the leather and pound the edges with a hammer and anvil, and put a pattern into the wrap.
Correct. I usually keep two. But if I had to choose one, I’d go with the not so sharp one. I sharpen it just like a single bevel broadhead. There’s an old video showing how I do that.

You’re welcome!
By far my favorite style wrap

Thanks Jono
He makes this look really easy, it takes a bit of practice.
It does!
You my friend are an artist !!!🥋🙏😌
Valuable video Clay thank you.
Great video
I want one of your recurves ...
I was wondering if teflon tape would
work for that bow socket.

Hey Clay, are you supposed to overlap the wrapped layers at all or just have them meet?
Just have them meet.
Thanks
Very cool 👍
Sometimes I like to just randomly say Latigo 😆
Latino! I mean latigo... damn spellcheck
Good to see Joe Don making bows again. Still talks funny though 8>)
I use tennis grip band
Hockey tape works too. Not as pretty as leather. I like it on my framing hammer handle as well
That is how one would wrap a tennis racquet, but how about a two pieced wet formed wrap?
My grip is the spot for the spare string. Then some fake snakeskin suede over the spare. In case you have a string break in the field.
Perfect!
Interesting. I normally just do a half-inch buckskin or goatskin wrapping.
If a guy was to do that with hand tools, what would you suggest?

SeadartVSG thanks, that makes sense.
Thanks
How to bevel the edges if I don't have a belt sander?
You could probably do it with a razor blade if you have a steady hand.
@@clayhayeshunter okay thank you.
That's neat, best looking wrap I've seen. In a future video, can you please show us how you sharpen your draw knife?
Zen Yatta he probably don’t it’s better dull cuz with a sharp one it’s a lot easier to make mistakes
David Bum No actually he has two, one sharp one duller. Ever seen him scrape a bow with it? Trust me, it's not dull.

Clay Hayes I'll check it out, thank you.
Mine IS ten and a half inches...
Tenon, not “tendon.”
Yes
Save your money, learn to skive leather. Or better, skive your leather than finish with belt sander or manually with block and sandpaper.
