    Was in my college class when I got this notification. Needless to say I was so excited to leave class and watch this video.

      Exact same situation here! I love this style of handle wrapping. Stitching usually doesn't look as authentic as this.

      haha, I don't think this one was exciting enough to warrant that, however it wouldn't take very much for me to want to leave class either!

    PHD, that was a good one. Just finished first 19 pages of new book. Thoughtful and meaningful. Now I know where you came from, where you stand, and the direction you are headed. Thanks, now to finish all chapters.

    Started reading your newest book, very good so far 👌
    I know you said martial archery isn't your area of expertise, but I would like to point out that the highly technical target archery you refer to didn't develop in Europe until 18-19 century high society started playing games in their gardens with low draw-weight bows. Archery throughout Eurasia was predicated on both short-draw snap-shooting and long-draw/instinctive/unanchored/long-range shooting. However, primitive hunting is not my area of expertise and I am thoroughly enjoying The Secrets and Science of Primitive Archery :)
    Edit: I should probably clarify that the long draw shooting I am talking about doesn't utilize anchor points (such as the cheek) and is not held back very long whilst aiming. Because of the use of long self-bows or laminated short recurve bows, and the physical stress of a 100+ lbs. draw weight in the low range and 150+ lbs. draw weight in the upper range, the entire draw/loose process only takes 3 seconds at maximum and commonly 1 second or less. As far as which side of the bow to shoot from, the record and tradition indicate this was personal preference.

      blowguns is a possibility. I used one a lot as a kid but haven't now in years. I might consider it if I ever find the spare time

    Looks amazing , i'll try on my bow.
    Is that finish your pine pitch and bear grease sealer?
    Thanks for sharing.

      thanks much. This one actually has a modern finish. But on a bow with the pitch/grease sealer, definitely apply the grip first and then seal the bow or the leather will never stick the wood. I should have mentioned that!

    If using hide glue or pine pitch, do you need to sand the handle before applying the glue?

    • @huntprimitive9918
      @huntprimitive9918  2 года назад +1

      if it's to bare wood you'll be fine. But definitely don't try to glue over any grease/wax based finishes

      @@huntprimitive9918 My bow is greased over, I won't glue anything over the handle then. Thanks for the tip!
