So glad you mentioned the skateboard tape. I have used a small piece on my students bows to help them identify the pressure point for a while now and it works wonders. I also use it on my compound rather than grip tape as it maintains the thinness of the handle.

Thanks Jake for showing I am not alone to struggle with grip tape. Great tips on how to make it effective. I use Tourna Grip which is easy to put, never comes off and keeps it dry to touch.

The Bowmar tape is intended to be used for compound bows and having wrapped my compound with it, it works great there. I tired Bowmar tape on a recurve and it was a pain, never thought of cutting it down to be slimmer and went back to tennis wrap as it was much easier with recurve grips using the crosscross method. I don't use it myself on my bow but my daughter likes it on her recurve and I've had to wrap hers a few times now after it wears out. I like R-Core's wood grips with their hex anti-slip pattern on them, work for me especially in the Australian summer. Got a new W&W ATF-X 27" riser a few weeks backs and ordered a R-Core I Am Recurve grip for it and forgot about the Kaminski discount code - doh!

I tried it with self amalgamating tape(self adhesive rubber tape), works like a charm, and you can stretch it a lot. Just a thought.

I use medical gauge tape and it's fantastic! Sticky, maleable, pliable and cheap.

With the greatest respect, search for: "Wrapping a bow grip with overgrip tape - Crisscross technique". The nicest, yet effective method. I'm a huge fan of your work, thanks a lot!

Yep, same thing. This tape was tough with the adhesive on the backing. Really tough to be able to stretch it as much as that.

Jake, I have some questions about using grip tape? How does one determine if they need to use grip tape? Second, how do you know where to build up or customize your hand to bow????? What to look for prior? Thank you

I use skateboard decking and found it easier to apply than tape and it lasts longer. Oh you get a shed load for a cheaper price.

If you really want to try to build up the grip, you could try roadbike handlebar tape, they make all different kinds, not the best at sticking to itself though. you could try different kinds of lizard skin brand, that might work.

Why you don't use Cable Shrink? They come in all sizes and width. For Skateboard thing, is it too rough for the palm? How about use similar tape product for pistol grip?

I have been trying a little strip of adhesive backed 100 grit sandpaper where I'd have my palm on the grip. It's the feel I've been looking for but the patch slides over time. I'm going to try skateboard grip tape next, the glue is probably better suited.

I usually just stick stuff down with a dab of vane glue and call it a day.

I use sticky sandpaper too, but to prevent it from sliding, i put a layer of “physiotape” on my grip before i put sandpaper on, it also helps with removing sweat from my hand.

Better to get R-core grip with the serrated face, in my never-having-won-an-Olympic-silver-medal humble opinion, or stick some wet n dry, in your preferred grit, to the existing grip.
