So why do many shooters still prefer running larger handguns?
The answer is pretty obvious, but today I get into a bit more nuance.

Just to add a Dad's perspective: kids change the concealment game a lot. I have carried an M&P 2.0 compact for 6 years AIWB, but have considered going down to a shield plus and/or deep carrying with an Enigma since having kids 16 months ago. Carrying a child everywhere turns your setup that's usually great for concealment, into a challenge. For example, you would never pull your t-shirt tight against your body in the summer while carrying, yet that's exactly what kids do when you hold them.
A lot of folks don't understand this constraint. Wrestling with your kid in the grass is awkward at best and dangerous at worst with a duty size handgun. Small stuff especially with enigmas is game changing!
The switch from “compact” handgun that was really just a short full size to a legitimate single stack subcompact is probably the single most common EDC switch ever.

@conorfoster2337 That's what I mentioned in my comment. I actually have had one for a couple years and usually use it in a standard AIWB way. But, I have been experimenting with the deep concealment technique where the whole gun goes below the belt line due to carrying kids.
@@musicman1eandaHave been deep concealing a P365XL in an Enigma for a couple years now. Game changer in terms of how much better concealment is, you have to be nut checked for anybody to tell you’re carrying.
What a well timed video. I carry a G17 for duty, G19 for EDC and have a Staccato P on hand for T&E with my department. Its like a 15% performance gain for a 500% cost increase and thats a tough pill to swallow. Here is what I've concluded:
1. If I was told I am going to war overseas tomorrow in an austere environment and my primary will be the rifle of my choice and the handgun is a last ditch backup that will see little use. I'm taking a Glock. It will be able to get dirtier/gummier for a longer period of time and will have a higher likelihood of going bang if it needs to.
2. For the stateside LEO or prepared citizen who in 90+% of scenarios will find themselves with a handgun when the moment comes. I want all of the performance in that moment I can get. I have the time and means to maintain my weapon systems. And even with my current duty gun (G17), just because I could go some thousands of rounds with little maintenance, I already don't do that. Why? Because my life depends on that weapon and I have the means and time to maintain it. So, might a 2011 choke up after 500-1000 rounds with zero maintenance? Sure. But in the environment I'm in I have three magazines on me. So the idea of slogging down after a completely unrealistic round count just is not a concern. And short of wrestling a bad guy in a mud pit before hand, the gun is very reliable for the environments its likely to find itself in.

I agree I believe the M&P and p10c are as reliable or more so as a Glock after multiple mud tests show. Right know there are a few Israelis using M&P as they use in many cases their edc weapon as their secondary in war. If all your unit is using Glocks though that’s the way to go. 2011 if you can afford and are willing to maintain them as your edc.
I find a FNP45T to be my outright favorite in a situation where I don’t have a shotgun, and have to eat a shit sandwich while fighting with a pistol….
I’ve had the same mental fight in my mind. I think the Glock will always be my go to war secondary, but after trying out different handguns, I find that I do get a performance increase out of non-Glock firearms. So for my duty carry, although I haven’t made the switch yet, I’m much more open to the idea of carrying something that I get higher performance out of. A duty gun gets higher carry and use, but I also do a better job taking care of it because it’s likely the only thing I’ll have on me when it all goes down.

Da it’s not always running the mass driver but that’s my fault I do like it but it’s a little ungainly but 19x with a leupold micro and a baldr s (knock it if you want but farm boy here I use this for a lot of situations where I looking for predators at night so it’s lights laser whatever I can get to work and I am here to tell ya I can flat hammer a raccoon at 30 in the dark I feel sorry for the person I ever had to use it for but olight has been beat to shit carried every day and works like my Casio watch lol

About the same I got my new gen roland special Gen 5 45 with a RMR X300 and Radian ramjet, I've let some coworkers run it (they've never shot a full size handgun with a comp) and they were baffled how easy it was for them to run compared to their slim ccw centric guns

I'm running a Gen 3 G19 slide with a Holosun 507c and suppressor height sights over a PSA Dagger frame, a Mass Driver, Timney trigger, and a Surefire X300 Ultra.
That's honestly the way to go. I CCW it without very much issue, and I'm using a cheap Amazon holster I dremeled to accommodate the dot.
The Mass Driver makes a huge difference on recoil imo, and not having to worry about pressing the gun against clothing forcing the slide out of battery is massive in my opinion.
I'd LOVE to do a similar setup with a Glock 40. I wish Strike Industries would make a 10mm compatible Mass Driver, but any comp would definitely help.
I had an encounter in my workplace with an active shooter (I won’t go in depth to which specific incident) and this individual took about 8-12 rounds of my 9mm 124gr Federal HST center mass and didn’t do any more than wince and continue.
(I’m a firearms instructor and was conceal carrying a 15+1 and a spare 21)
In this shootout I had succumb to a shot in my thigh, at which point it became very real I could die here. Obviously I was aware shit was real as it was, but experiencing that immense pressure and burning to my thigh I realized “yeah that in my chest will drop me.” And my fight for my life went into overdrive.
I came to understand, my threat at this point mutually didn’t want to die. He didn’t want to give up the fight, but that PRIMAL urge to survive will push you through anything until the physical body fails.
It’s literally giving all you have because this is all you’ve got. It ended with me rushing to cover injured, conducting a tac swap and stopping him with about a 7 yard bill drill but with 7-8 rounds. Instant ragdoll, to facing the sky sucking air for about two gasps and he was gone.
I survived that encounter, I did what had to be done. But I mutually understood in a sick way his desperation to kill me to live. He was wrong and is were he needs to be now, but to be layed out 10 ft from the guy and knowing I survived while he was gone was surreal. I looked at him as EMS arrived and thought, “that could have very well been me.”

Highly recommend reading “On Combat”, for people who have or have not gone through a self defense shooting. Grossman comes to a similar conclusion as you came to after your own personal experience.
At the risk of sounding cringe, I'm reminded of the scene from All Quiet where Paul is in the shell hole with the French soldier.
I had a similar encounter. I also won't expand much on what and where for privacy reasons. I got out of my cruiser and two gangbangers got out of their car in an aggressive manner. They drew on my partner and I, and they instantly domed my partner. I did a tactical slide over my hood and took cover behind the engine block.
I drew my 2011 (made by Atlas, not the low tier staccatos, the chief approved it personally only for me since I am the head instructor for all State Police in my state) and I did a sub 1.5 bill drill. Mind you in practice I usually do a 2.0, but under life and death pressure I managed a 1.5, the guy was big skin head and he just absorbed my own custom made 9mm +p++ 137 grain XTP HST federal major power factor loads. All of them went into his heart. This was at 20 yards.
The second guy opened the door to his trunk and as he's pulling out an AR15 with a gadsen flag on the dust cover, I did an A-Zone credit card shot on his cerebral cortex mandula oblongata and dropped him with the CNS shot. The guy who I had shot previously rushed me and did a T-shaped jump over the good and tackled me as he's leaving a trail of arterial spray everywhere.
We're wrestling over my Atlas but I carry a small 22lr pocket j-frame as back up. I do a Brazilian Jujitsu sweep (I'm also a black belt), put him in an arm bar, and with my free hand I draw my snubbie and shoot him three times in the head but the 22lrs just bounce off his head, then I have to dig the muzzle into the eye and pull the trigger and finally the guy stops (he survived btw). There's this secret medal of honor they give cops but unfortunately it's not talked about in the media. Needless to say I was paraded for stopping those skin heads. Turns out they thought we were there to arrest them because they were carrying one million pounds of cocaine in their trunks.

Used to own a Staccato P. Put 11,000 rounds through it in a year, duty carried it, and loved it. Ended up selling and buying a bunch of Glocks. Not because I like Glock better, but because, for the price, I was able to arm my whole family and ensure they're all protected while creating homogeneity in our security system. It's not my favorite gun, but they run and are easy enough to work on. Plus I've tweaked a couple of mine to make them more palatable. That's a plenty fair trade-off in my mind.
As someone who is too poor to get a micro compact and thus still carries a G19 with an RMR in 2024, this video makes me happy.

I would never buy a new pistol unless I also had the budget to get an optic, a $90 holster, and at least 5 additional mags (and new iron sights if it's a glock).

My son attended his no fail class last year. It was probably the most impactful class he’s taken and that’s saying something because he’s trained a lot with a lot of great instructors.
I carried a Beretta 92X 20-22 and have been carrying a G34 with an X300U and 507Comp since last year. I've always been an advocate for carrying big guns, even if they're not comfortable (which mine is, thanks to Tenicor). When the Allen mall shooting happened 20 minutes from where I live, it dawned on me that having nothing but a 43X with a single spare mag wouldn't be a fun experience in that situation.

It’s the best carry method
Starting carrying a full size 5" M&P a couple months ago. Working with it, daily carry. Honestly, not that hard to do, and I'm not a big guy. The slight loss of comfort for way more capacity, capability, and shootability far outweigh the cons for me personally. If you've never tried it, it's not as hard as you think.
Get a good holster. That's really the key.

I daily my Sig 220 Legion 10mm with a Streamlight TLR-10 and a Holosun SCS 320. I live in the middle of the woods in West Virginia, so I'm more concerned about four legged predators than two when it comes down to it; but I have never been in a scenario where I have felt "outgunned", if you will.

I've been a fan of this line of thinking forever. I don't want to have to rely on a rifle that I may or may not have access to in my truck(could go on about THAT for ages) or home or range locker or whatever. I want the most capability I can get in the piece of equipment that I always have within arm's reach. I apply that to my training; I drill with my pistol 2× or 3× more regularly than I do with my rifle, not only because the performance is that much lower and the skill requirement is that much higher, but because it's the tool that I am most likely to have when I need it. It's one of those things that make me grateful for my size and environment; I'm big enough, in a cool enough climate, that it's not unreasonable for me to be able to concealed-carry a relatively large handgun on a regular basis.
You've become one of my favoirite firearms-related content producers over the past year, and this one really seals it. Not only is it touching on a subject that I feel very strongly about, but Chuck Pressburg is one of the 'tactical celebrities' in the firearms world that I have an overwhelming amount of respect for.
"Not sprinkling your bullets over section 8 housing" hits pretty hard as a guy who had his house, with his kids in it "sprinkled" by cops in a not section 8 neighborhood 5 years ago. I went acab at that moment.

I'm glad I'm not the only one tackling the crippling realization that no matter what fancy handgun I pick, it's still shooting the same 9mm bullet. I've pondered switching from my Glock to a CZ, partially for practical reasons, partially for snobby hipster reasons. But what always gives me an existential crisis is knowing that it does the exact same thing my coworkers Glock 17.4 does.
Honestly happy to see this topic discussed, I love shooting pistols way more than rifles and as a civilian I feel like a pistol is far more practical in utility and usage than a rifle will be, simply based on the merit that carrying an AR everywhere is weird and strongly discouraged.

I have consumed a lot of content of Chuck over the last few years and this video really rustled my jimmies even though I normally enjoy. The idea that your edc is not legit because it is smaller and not meeting metrics similar to a full size service gun is really a disservice to the average ccw person. Most of us work in trades, offices, retail, food, manufacturing, and in major metro areas with people that are hostile towards guns. The only way we can actually "everyday carry" for most of the day INCLUDING carrying at work and at home is to have something small, unobtrusive, and that can be pocket or deep concealed if needed.
I am not pursuing felons through bad neighborhoods and getting in rolling gunfights! I am not sending people away for years/life if I stop them! I only need to prevent or dissuade crime to be succesful!
This video just props up GWOTbro/LEO mindsets and requirements that dont apply to normal people! If this video had been about how these handguns are useful in higher threat environments or during social unrest or shtf it would make sense, but it hangs its hat on edc for normies like me.
These guns just end up in the safe, on the table, in the glovebox, or off body carry for most people, and therefore not "everyday carried" as much as their owners would tell you. I have also tried carrying roland specials with good holsters, enigmas, holster mods, many different belts etc so I am not without experience.

Whatever you taken from the video at least take this, carrying something is better then nothing. Own what you'll shoot and carry daily and you'll be better off then most

I think the Beretta 92G LTT Elite checks the boxes your 2011 does but without sacrificing reliability and for less money and less expensive mags.
The new Beretta GTS (frame mounted decocker) with red dot and LTT tunned would be.
I mentioned the LTTs actually, friend of mine runs one. But I think I cut it out on the editing room floor.
My stock Beretta 92X RDO Full Size was probably the best performing handgun (in terms of MY accuracy and ability) I've had yet. DR920 War Poet is my current and I think the only reason I'm better with it than the Beretta is the fact it has a red dot.

Heck yeah. Especially in those in states with 10rd mag limits. If we are talking offensive 9x25 is as easy as it gets. Super easy to form the brass. Very cheap conversion barrels on ebay. I have a barsto g20 barrel that is a freaking tack driver😂

Being a good CZ cultist, my go to in this category is a Shadow 2 Compact with a TLR9 and a 508T.

One of my favorite videos so far.
I'm a bigger dude at 6'2 240, my CCW is a G19 with a Mass Driver, Surefire x300 Ultra and a Holosun 507c.
I run a PSA Dagger frame on it just because I like the grip geometry and texture better than anything I've felt in a glock frame. It's running a Timney trigger with a ~3lb pull weight.
It works very well as a "duty" pistol, and I'm able to conceal it with an AIWB holster as well.
Pick your sidearm based on what works best for you. Public ranges, as much as I hate them for various reasons, are great for allowing you to rent pistols and try them out. Great way to find out what feels good.
Yeah I installed the Timney and took it to the range. Shot 200 rounds and decided this is now a range gun. It shot flawless but for me it’s too light for edc

My "offensive handgun" is a G40 with a g29 length grip 12+1 and a g26 grip circumference chambered in 9x25 Dillon capable of launching 60 gr projectiles at 2500 fps. its got a 6” barrel and weighs roughly 30oz.

PMM compensator made for the factory threaded 4.6 full size M&P 2.0 with a Floyd's EDC magwell & basepads, plus a Springer Precision extended mag release (paddle version). It is just as reliable. Adds some length, but that's not the main worry to concealing it anyway. Also, the obligatory WML and red dot.

One comment that stood out to me from the video was being able to "carry and train with the same gun without a brutal training regimen..."
That's something I thought about in the last year of having my Staccato P.
Eventually, I'll get a C2 as a carry gun, and I'll break it in with 250-500 rounds, then I'll clean it, and basically not fire it again unless the P is out of 'service', or I absolutely have to.
My Staccato P will forever be my first choice for a training and 'battle' pistol, and it will have the round count to back that up. I've already put more rounds on it in a year, than I did my last main-line handgun
The only hiccup for me is the “unreliability” bit. I’m a big fan of guns that go “bang” _no matter what._ But that’s a military expectation.
For a civilian who can and will every day strip his gun down, lubricate it with the Chanel #5 gun oil, rotate in fresh Gucci bullets, light the sacred incense and say the appropriate prayers to the Machine God, and never drag it through the mud, “unreliability” isn’t an issue.

Clean your guns after every use then. It doesn't take long and - at least when I was in the military - we used to clean our stuff after every time we had to qual.
the "good" 2011's are, at this point, pretty drop dead reliable. Just maintain your gun. Drop of lube if you've dumped like 500 rounds through the gun. Clean the gun after a range session unless you only put like 100 rounds through the gun (who only shoots 100 rounds in a range session right?). The one big weakness of the platform are those mags. 2011 mags CANNOT be expected to be reliable if you've dropped them in dirt/mud/sand. You HAVE to take apart the mag and run a brush through them every time they get dropped or there's like a 50% chance you're just gonna be running a malfunction drill. The guns themselves, contrary to popular belief or perhaps even what's suggested in this video, actually deals with dirt/sand/mud quite well. But ya... if you see a 2011 guy who DOESN'T own a mag brush.... that guy either doesn't really shoot or has never shot outside an indoor range environment.
None of that matters in "real world" practice though. Nobody is going to drop an empty mag, pick it up, and reload it with loose rounds in the middle of a gunfight. Why would you be carrying around loose rounds anyway instead of another mag right? 2011 mags are 100% if they're clean and maintained, and there's every expectation in a self defense situation that they should be. Ofc, if you drop your mags in the dirt and then reload them without cleaning them to later use in case of self defense... that's on you. That type of gun owner is what the GLOCK was created for.
And yes, there is the off chance that you somehow fall into a sand dune and roll around for 5 mins getting sand all over your gun and mags BEFORE getting into a gunfight, whereupon your 2011 might have enough sand in it (it's a pretty closed system so at least the mag in the gun should be fine, actually) that you're f'ed. Guess it just wasn't your day then? Maybe don't live in the desert? I mean hell, if you really care about extremely unlikely torture-test-like scenarios I hear the lowly M&P with the godawful hinged trigger is actually king of the hill.

@@andreivaldez2929 Yes. Though military guns are supposed to hold up to a lot of use and abuse that mere cleaning can't fix. And in combat cleaning after every use isn't always an option.
Every gunfight you get into is open division. No limitations on calibers, types, or accessories. Always carry the largest gun possible that has the most bullets or the biggest bullets with whatever accessories that make you the most effective shooter
I disagree. I work as an instructor, and what I tell people is “Carry what you can afford, have access to, can legally carry, and what is comfortable”. Actually using your gun is so unlikely that you should focus more on what’s comfortable. That means not carrying full size guns with optics and lights. Because realistically speaking, you don’t need them. Also, bigger bullets don’t mean anything in regards to pistols. Real world data shows that basically all handgun calibers perform the same in actual shootings.

If you think you are likely enough to have to use one that it's worth it to you to carry one, why shouldn't performance be your top priority? Doesn't mean you shouldn't give any thought to comfort, but still.

True comfort comes from having the right holster and belt. A G19+x300u (or comparable) is not an issue IWB if you have the right setup for a LARGE portion of the population

So it comes down to what the individual person is willing to put up with. If you do feel the need to carry, you should carry what is comfortable and makes the smallest footprint.

Most people don’t even like carrying their phones and keys in their pockets, let alone carry a gun. I don’t even like it. I wear clothes that actually fit my body. I wear a lot of women’s pants too, which means I can’t IWB carry. Now imagine a person who wears sweat pants or leggings everyday. Obviously they could use something like the Enigma, but most people just don’t want to have to deal with that. Most people are lazy and don’t want intrusions in their life.

My fall/winter/early spring carry is an HK P30L with PMM comp and whatnot, and I love the DA/SA platform as an excellent in between with better reliability than a 2011 SAO type platform, but (with some upgrades for the P30 at least) a much better trigger and handling characteristics compared to a standard striker fired platform

Ive been talking about this idea for years, with all of these ideas.
I CCW a Glock 19.5 with an RMR type 2 and a +2 baseplate in a Dara appendix holster usually. I like this setup because if I need more rounds I can use Glock 17 mags or if I need it to be smaller I can just use Glock 19 mags. Don’t even use a WML as I carry one separately. Does the job for me and is comfortable in 100 degree, 100% humidity south Louisiana weather.

This conversation seems to omit all of the durable, reliable DA/SA options that's are every bit as accurate and have excellent triggers, AND cost one third to one quarter the price. I see no reason to buy a 2011 for carry except the "Gucci" factor.
Seconded. This seems like a round about way to suggesting a SIG P226, Beretta 92, or CZ75 variant of your choice. I'm not sure why you'd pick a 2011 over one of them unless you have to an unreasonably good trigger (which you can get close to with any of those DA/SAs)

I edc my SS DR920P with a Holosun 508T and PID . Its basically a perfected modern version of the Roland Special. The slide is significaly lightened so it runs everything I feed it . I carry 2 17 rd mags of Speer Gold Dot +P+ HPs. Compensated guns are great if the gun is designed specifically to be ran with a comp
This is exactly the concept behind why I built and now carry what I have called a Glonk 19XL, (19 size frame/grip with a 34 slide). When using a full size light in conjunction with a PHLster floodlight you give up zero concealabability or comfort and gain all the advantages of a 5+ inch barrel and slide, but it genuinely carries like a compact.

Yeah, that's the issue with pistols. It's a numbers game where you have to combine shot placement with impact power and penetration, and any significant shortage in that equation will leave you naked. I've read from credible sources that there are recorded instances of someone being hit in the face with a full house .44 mag, and the jacketed bullet causing a weird boundary layer separation effect where the projectile flattened and rode a trail of liquefied flesh around the curvature of the skull and left the attacker alive.
That of course is why I will only carry my Arisaka 99 loaded with .35 Whelen 300 grain hard-cast lead gas checked rounds at 2400FPS for defense against muggers. Ghost ring speed sights only. I don't want to have to be dialing for windage when I'm staring down a charging mugger getting ready to bite me for disturbing its nest.
I kid of course. I do carry a genuinely absurd .44 magnum snub nose because of crazy Illinois vagueness where it might be okay but it might be a felony to carry a pistol mag with a detachable baseplate. But I won't carry full power ammo, I carry a reduced load tuned for the short barrel meant to approximate a hot 10mm 180gr defensive load of a full sized duty gun. 180gr Hornady XTP bullet at 1275fps with no excessive flash, blast, or concussion. I'm actually very proud of my work even if it is a little excessive. ANd even then I'd go back to carrying my 9mm compact if we could get clarification of the law that carrying a mag with a detachable baseplate didn't count as "Readily converted, restored, or modified". I just have to accept that any handgun is going to be less consistently effective at stopping a threat than any intermediate or full powered rifle.
@noway6633 it's really not an exception for handguns. .45 gets no special distinction in that regard. Shot placement is king regardless of caliber.

I think the best take away here is the last part. (Not Nova, although that might be the real best) But learning to train yourself mentally and gaining the muscle memory for switching between close up rapid fire, to slow calculated methodical fire. Most people at static ranges usually practice more methodical fire, then at the end as a treat do a mag dump, without realizing if they put just a little more thought in, they can do that and gain something.

Wanting to carry a bigger, more capable handgun was a pretty big motivator to shed some pounds for me. I wasn't ever huge or anything but i had enough of a belly that carrying anything more than a bare glock 19 was uncomfortable. Now i can appendix carry a 17 with an optic and full sized light with basically the same comfort level I had before and that same bare 19 basically disappears in my waistband

Yea this has always been my MO. I rock the walther pdp pro with a comp. Fits the bill of high performance while maintaining reliability, all for under 1k. Hard to beat
I've always carried a full size just because of capacity and ease of shooting. The confidence to get hits is a big thing that you can really only know if you shoot. For striker fire P99 and PDP, for hammer ive always carried P226 or USP. The traditional Walther frame (pdp compact frame) is probably my favorite overall.
I edc a 9-banger and a ka bar. We are not the same.
Finally! I barely see anyone talk about this but its been my autistic special interest for the past few years.
What I notice a lot of people ignore is how critical shootability is because, somehow, they have already foreseen the future and know without a shadow of a doubt that they will never encounter:
- Someone armed with something bigger than a pocket pistol more than 5 yards away from you.
- Encountering a human Terminator that eats non-CNS shots for breakfast.
- Multiple armed bad guys that are some mix of the previous two points.
We already carry for the unlikely scenario of needing to lawfully defend innocent life, but somehow these scenarios are too niche for goobers that don't want to put in the time or effort to improve their EDC capability.
I'm with him here, a pocket/micro pistol is only marginally better than a pocket knife and should be reserved for non-EDC, niche carry. Personally, I'm of the opinion that any G19 sized pistol is the baseline for good shootability and every grown man can conceal carry one. If you can properly conceal larger/heavier pistols that shoot better, you should. I will say that reliability is not something that I think can be comfortably dialed back for the sake of performance.
I'm sorry but what occupation do you have that allows you to carry a G19 or larger gun daily at work? How do you carry at the gym? Genuinely curious.
@@1unhappyfarmer Can't speak for OP obviously, but I have carried my full size EDC (M9 with 507 Comp) working b2b sales and meeting with clients on their property. I've never broken concealment or had an issue concealing, but I'm switching to a Tomcat 32acp pocket carry for meetings and events and leaving the M9 in a car safe. For me, I've decided the extra firepower is not worth risking my entire career, and facing the aftermath of social consequences if word ever got out that I was carrying a military pistol into my clients' businesses. For gym, I keep it in the gym bag that never leaves my side.

I'm happy people switch to smaller guns instead of just leaving it all in the car all the time, it's an easy habit to slip into. I can keep an LCR in a cargo pocket at my job and in an enigma at the gym, and have a fauxland special for bad areas/malls/theaters etc. if needed.

@@jacobhayniefulwell, to be fair, it does differ from job to job and your „prescribed“ work attire does limit your options. Sometimes dressing around your carry piece isn’t possible and wether you spend most of your day standing or sitting (at a desk or in a car) will steer your choices to an extent.
If you had to wear an overall as a mechanic you‘d be limited as well, especially for fast access.

Great video discussion! I now try to always carry my comped Mr920 and at least one spare mag. Even if I have to carry 4oclock instead of appendix or not wear certain clothes anymore I want the best thing I can both affordably conceal and carry everyday. Especially as most of my fam and friends don’t carry all the time or carry tiny subcompacts. I get some situations and some people need a small edc but times are changing and I think we have to consider changing as well.

Well my suppressed P938 is bigger than my staccato C2 and close to my comped 34... so it's pretty much a fighting handgun.
I EDC a mini Roland; 43X MOS with Shield mags, 507k & Harrington Arms comp. Makes it the same length as a 48. Eats every type of ammo & can ride in a T-Rex Sidecar all day comfortably. Best setup I’ve run in 20 years of daily carry.

For civilians the 40s&w,357sig, 10mm,45/45super need to be looked at. For us the pistol is probably primary or used to grt to a rifle. We wont have backup, artillery, air support coming so throw the biggest fastest rounds you can handle IMO

A carry a g26 with my spare mag being a g19 mag. I am not concerned about carrying a smaller gun or one that doesn't have all the bells and whistles. I'm comfortable with it and practice regularly with it. I do need to work on shooting 50 yards with it more but I could get hits at 50 with it. That's just me though
From my readings, it seems that the 26 occupies a strange place where it seems to be the most mechanically accurate Glock. The theory has something to do with it having a tighter lockup, or something along those lines. But it is a noted facet of the 26.
Thanks for the vid. Around 5000 rounds into carrying a Sig x-macro comp that I swap out the lower to an XL frame when I conceal. The comp really is a good compromise. It is bullet agnostic and still gives some performance improvement. So far, fits all the bills for me. For context, I carry a G45 at work. Both have red dots and lights. It pained me to do this as I've carried a glock for years, professionally and personally. Oh well, I'm ok changing.

I actually really agree with this concept. I can and have carried my Laugo Alien, with TLR-VIR II and Romeo 3 Max, since that thing can certainly outshoot me, it's the flattest thing I can shoot stupid fast, will work under night vision if needed, and I haven't had any issues with it, though it does get dirtier than most due to the gas system.
The rifle is still my first pick, but I respect a pistol that's as capable as it can be.

In my experience, people (other than those who are just oblivious) generally fall into one of two camps when it comes to threat assessment, whether that’s what gun to carry, or how old their kid should be in order to be left home alone, or whatever. People either focus on probability or possibility. I think the ideal place to be is likely somewhere in the middle, but I don’t begrudge anyone who is towards the “possibility” end of the scale. I’m certainly that way in most areas of my life. And truth be told, the world isn’t what it used to be, and it’s only getting worse. The “probabilities” are changing, even if we don’t have long-term stat studies to point to yet. Fact is, we aren’t ever going back to the pre-Columbine and pre-9/11 world.
This is partially why I’m such a big fan of the Hellcat RDP. It seems to be the only handgun on the market that’s really being pushed to extract every last ounce of performance it can while still remaining super easy to carry
Things always come full circle. Basically a GWOT & pre-GWOT badass decided to make a practical civilian version of the HK Mark 23 go viral (comp, sans suppressor), except using fully commercially available products. Build your own, a la carte. We need more of this kind of creativity 😊
One of my favorite guns is a G17 with a 6 second mount, T1, comp, and a light. The recoil is so light I was unimpressed by 5.7’s “low” recoil because it’s *that* close. You can also brace the 6 second mount against vertical surfaces like walls and make hits at a distance that would be unthinkable with a standard handgun.
Not only is it incredibly fun to shoot, it’s much more capable at range. Plus imagine if there’s civil unrest, I can drop this in a cup holder and have something way more capable than most handguns without having a rifle out in the car.
It’s not something you can reasonably IWB but I have an OWB holster for it and it is an excellent backup for a rifle. Under a coat it isn’t noticeable either.

Crazy. My bill drill splits on a Glock are around .18-.20 at the slowest. On an m&p 2.0 with an apex trigger in at .13-.15 all day. On my 2011, it’s about the same as the m&p. I still prefer a polymer gun over my stacatto. Even more so than my friends atlas. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Way back in 1994 when the OHWS program was announced, Guns Magazine did a feature on it. A sidebar article observed that the general performance requirements looked a lot like a USPSA Open Gun chambered in .45 ACP.
IPSC Modified Division was, in some ways even closer.
1911 Syndicate recently did a deep dive into the OHWS and the HK that included one of the SEALs involved in the testing. He made the point that the gun was used rather more than generally believed and was quite useful on many reconnaissance missions and especially in over-the-beach insertions. He stated that he'd used one as late as 2007 because his unit hadn't turned theirs in for precisely that reason.

My one handed primary is a 10mm Xdm. Since I'm more likely to encounter a 4 legged threat than a 2 legged one. Works not bad, conceals like a tank
I think this discussion with the offensive handgun shows a shift from mindset for many people from preventing a mugging to potentially stopping an active shooter. It's why I carry a G19. It's what I can afford, and I put up with my choice holster and some discomfort for the ability to shoot far more accurately and at distance.

Good Video. Not going to refute anything you say. 1911 style guns do take a bit more maintenance than the average polymer gun. When I carried a 1911, I had a weekly cleaning day. Even if I didn't shoot it. It is also important to lube it. Most Polymer guns can be run dry, not a 1911 style gun. I carry a Glock now because I have gotten lazy in my old age. The best part was at the end with Nova and her Friend Hop.

As a joke / fun project, I bought a Live Free Armory Glock 19 slide with a built in break and slapped a ported barrel on it, just to see what happened. Whatever black magics or good luck charm I have attached to me made it work...with 115 grain...I still don't know how. But, I do know that it is the flattest shooting handgun that I have ever used. I have ran this thing through cases of ammo and it just freaking goes. The slide is about the same length as a G17 but the grip is the more concealable G19 size; Hannah Montana. Everything except the barrel and 15lb recoil spring is stock Glock OEM parts.
Q&A
-Should you build one? Probably not since there is a good bit of hand fitting that had to be done. I had to open up the end of the muzzle compensator because it was interfering / hitting the end of -the barrel and extend the top cut so that the ports had enough space.
-Is it fuck all loud? What? WHAT??
-Does it get hot? Yeppers. That brake catches a LOT of blast and after 3-4 mags, it becomes hotter than the Goth GF you fantasize about...and twice as likely to burn you for try to touch them.
-Does the dot leave the window? Nope. Even one handed it is pretty much good to go.
-Velocity loss? Yep. I am losing around 43 fps, give or take 10 fps, on most loads. Doesn't matter to me but it might to you.
-Is it perfect? Not even close. Shooting it indoors or from retention a lot is a great way to get a CTE and night vision shooting, NO. It is also a Gen 3 Glock 19 frame, comfort is optional.

Top reliable firearms are of the da/sa variety. My preference is the cz75 series. I rolled with a cz75 d pcr that I’ve put all CGW internals in, optic cut with rmr buis plate and matching front. These pistols run in anything, water, dirt, frozen, doesn’t matter. NATO certified and just keep ticking. Plus you can fully customize one, slap an optic on and still be half the cost of a staccato or similar 2011.
Plus they will eat +P until you are too broke to buy +P....

My two SP-01s were both unreliable POS guns, never again. Needed Wolff extractor springs or else constant FTE during competitions, and the first suffered a sheared firing pin retaining pin in the middle of a USPSA match. Swapped to an M&P 2.0 and have never had a single malfunction with very little cleaning over thousands of rounds.
@@frankholub4673 my pcr has well over 10k rounds with zero malfunctions. Czs are extremely reliable, especially the pcr,p01, 75, p07,09. I don’t see or hear to many issues with people running CZs even in competition. Probably got lemons which is a bummer. The 2.0 m&ps are awesome. I carry a 4.6” 10mm during fall winter/ when hunting camping. DPP plate rmr, tlr1-hl, Galloway trigger shoe that removed all pre and post travel, stock internals. Feels like a single stage trigger, awesome set up.

Firing pin retainer pin, those are known to cause issues if you dry fire without a good snap cap. An issue that does not exist on their guns that have a Pre-B trigger group, be it a Pre-B 75 or a Shadow 2. Which part of why their most popular race guns lack the pin block and associated firing pin retainer pin.
It has an optic, so all you need is a “One Shot” pistol brace, q.v. (which means “go check it out” in your vernacular)
Fn 510 with 22rnd mags, swampfox justice, TRL 1 HL, and a GGW Brake. Pushes double tap 125 grain total copper hollow points around 1600 ft per second.
After watching your Roland Special video, and several Modcasts on the topic, I decided to dip my toes into “Roland’s” waters. I found myself staring down at my G17 and my G19 and thought why wouldn’t I comp the 17 instead of the 19? To get to offensive handgun territory I would be running an extended mag anyway. So I did that. The comp is slightly fore of the u-boat but it is negligible. Runs great on the stock recoil spring with 124 or 147. That being said, I started to kind of embrace the offensive handgun concept and bought a Prodigy. And then had to watch a bunch of Joe Chambers videos to fix the damn thing 😂
