@DanielHorton-k8d I've found it is heavily dependent on manufacturer of said rifle. There are some seriously shitty Aks and Ars out there. But the good quality Aks are just way too expensive to properly setup
Wow, I am super impressed how you set that rifle up. Having only the magnifier on the dust cover because it doesn’t need to hold zero and with conjunction of that magnifier low mount you really have something unique.
Grew up with AKs. Love AKs. Will always love AKs. But the ammo situation has made them into collectibles or memes. 5.56 in an AK is pure cope, and I have since pivoted to the AR platform, which makes infinitely more sense in the current climate.
Same. I'm poor so when shit popped off in ukr a year after I bought my ak I was hurting bad whenever I had to go get ammo. Ended up grabbing a cheap AR, it works fine and 5.56 is about 30 cents cheaper on the round
@hailtothe_rooster1572 The CMMG MK47: garbage commercial grade 4140 barrel and barrel lack dimples for gas block set screws. The gas block worked loose on Mrgunsngear's test. The Dissent uses a plastic cup piece for 2 recoil spring guide rods that are susceptible to breakage.
Yeah I want an AK, but my MK47 consistently shoots 2 MOA with russian ammo. So…. Hard to argue. Did I mention it just eats everything also? Works in the 105 degree heat and in the negatives. What more can ya want
yeah, I look forward to removing all the parts and transplanting them on a not PSA when I'm done with the PSA AK side of things. Or just buying a VZ58 and larping strikeback What trigger do you recommend?
Always find it odd when people act like there arent a ton of options to modernize an AK or that its difficult to do so. A couple simpler and cheaper options for ir laser mounting, ultimak and SLR handguard/tube exists just saying. Gloves helps with the heat. I c-clamp that bitch frequently with a glove. If the heat kills your ir laser, it wasnt worthy. Oh about the charging handle, they like to yeet their selves a lot eventually at some point so be prepared with possibly dealing with that.
For lasers, there are some kits(I think it was the Zenitco Leader kit) where there is a step down notch in front of the gas tube on top of the barrel where you can mount your LAM.
Great vid one of my favorite gun channels. A Romanian Draco in the 12.5 length would be a wayyyyy better option than the Psa. Fully Romanian made to proper AK specs. A vid comparing the Draco and PSA would be awesome and probably popular too!
I just wish the factory made them with a 1913 rail on the back for easier installment of a folding brace. I know there is an aftermarket but it’s a bit annoying. Maybe it has to do with import laws??
as a dude who owns and loves both, i will not deny the fact that the ar platform might just be better. however i end up liking the ak more for some reason that i cant really explain. kinda like using off-meta weapons in a video game just for fun, while still being effective.
Not me midway through my lunch while you call me out on this mediocre Friday 😅 I live vicariously through channels like yours. Please annex leafland when convenient. Much love.
God i wish zenitco shit was available. being able to mount a LAM forward of the gas block on a lower position solves the issue for the 103 pattern ak. it is heavy, but thats AK life. also does a lot to mitigate heat.
Since you're looking for a better charging handle I can personally say the TWS Hob Knob is an excellent AK charging handle upgrade. It took some minor fitment to get it on my AKM (I even scarily grinded some of the tip of the charging handle off to keep it from sticking out too far) but it is overall a really nice, quality charging handle extension that stays on there firm thanks to having three set screws, and I appreciate some nice flutes instead of obnoxious knurling you'll see on a lot of them.
Heck yeah. I love AKs. It sucks that their not cheap any more. At least I was able to start gettting good with them on a budget, when I was just a poor 18 year old stocking shelves.
0:44 where was this dope shot filmed at. Also, does anyone make a three position magnifier mount like the arisaka but for regular absolute cowitness height or higher or maybe there's a way to make this mount work with higher optic hights? That's an awesome feature but i don't run low mounts normally.
I run the full JMAC MMS rail with their smaller pic section over the dust cover for an eotech and it really slims up the front end and locks up on the rear of the barrel and doesn’t come in contact with the barrel. And with the 556 it really is a great package, You should come out to kalashbash next year and run aks
As a die-hard AK fan, I'd probably still get a CMMG MK47 Dissent before an AK build like this. The SureShot chassis makes it cost more than the CMMG (which is ~$2300 naked) and there's so much less jank and hassle to be navigated that way. All the upgrades needed for an AK (rail for optics and lights/lasers, adjustable gas system, better trigger, etc) are all stock on the Dissent
@Mr.Switchy If they made it with a 12.5" barrel, that could be a pretty good option. I think the benefits of an almost 4" shorter gun outweigh the velocoty loss of 100-150fps, from a round not known for long range effectiveness or dependence on velocity anyway. Other than legal reasons, I don't see much justification for 16" barrel AKs
I have no doubt this is a abomination to AK guys Though to be fair, I think most people don't really care what AK guys think. We just want to shoot a AK in the way we like.
I always found that, as a lefty, aks are more ergonomic for us lol, I run an SLR106FR now and it’s been my workhorse for years out To 500 yards max with an Acog
I wish I had the money to collect AKs like I used to. I have multiple and love all of them but I always wanted one from every country that produced them. Sure ARs are the better platform in basically every way, but AKs are just fucking cool.
Love it. 7.62x39 doesn't get enough credit as a barrier friendly tool. Modern joints are cool. However the AK community is funny. If you got one of these Spetsnaz KGB Granit type new mods, you have to have an old school! Also, where is dog...
Have you tried a full sized Draco? Unmolested on import because it’s a pistol, only loses like 100fps from a 16”, front rail is same length, and it’s way less front heavy. Bone steel or CNC Warrior brace is really good if you don’t want to sbr.
14:30 I can recommend the Red Star Trigger. It´s cheaper (in germany atleast) than the ALG and more versatile. You can set it up in Single and 2 Stage. You can also setup the reset for you likings. I had the ALG but sold it. The Setup can be tricky at first but when its finally set its totally worth it.
So I don't know if anyone mentioned this, but I genuinely need you to know, as one of my favorite preparedness channels. Missed opportunity for "Kalashkenough"
a beefy pistol grip and a picatinny stock adapter with a Midwest industries folding buffer tube will help with the front end being heavy while being able to hold the gun more stable but definitely will add more weight.
After dozens of action shoot rounds at my range, the consistently solid AR dudes drop 10 bowling pins about 30%-avg faster than my AK. That's at either 25 or 50 yards. In my opinion, the trade for speed and precision is a harder hit within maybe 100, but definitely 50 yards. At those ranges both platforms are highly effective. Now, if the rubber ever hits the road in total societal collapse and these platforms become a necessity, not a luxury, what would I use? An AR-10 obviously. The only way an AR-10 wouldn't be superior is in frequent travel or patrol scenarios where weight means energy and fatigue. The force, pen, and range generated by 308 is primo stuff for home/neighborhood defense while you're holding out on canned reserves waiting for any cannibalism to subside. Board up tight during the day. At night throw on the therms/nvg's to track local banditos. AR-15 is an amazing general purpose fun platform, but in true shtf an AK is more reliable when running dirty and I'd be fearful of surviving on a potentially dirty AR. I've cleaned my AK bolt twice in 2000 rounds, and each time it had minor buildup with the firing pin still loosey goosey. Still I would only survive on AK sub 75yds, AR sub 200 clean-longevity, AR10>>>all. Sorry for the essay style response, but this is my closest objective grasp at the important points for rifle consideration.
Cool setup but I’m just stuck in 2015 Rifle Dynamics setup as being the pinnacle of AK modernization. Ultimak rail, T2, mini Scout, low pro gas block, chopped P/W barrel, ALG trigger, and Krebs safety.
Night vision accessories and suppressors suck all the soul and character out of any gun they are mounted to. I know they are important force multipliers but damn. I’ve never seen a fully kitted rifle I liked the look or weight of.
Imma be real with u chief. I'm not spending 7 bennies on a handguard for slight ergo improvements when i can use a $100-something ultimak and a side-mount (no it's not janky)
It is almost 11 PM, friday evening, I am stuck with my job because I fucked up some of the deadlines and have to finish it all up. But I am still happy because there is a new dose of gun autism to watch
RS regulate is lighter weight and potentially get a red dot lower. If you want to simply add a light (and possibly laser) there are forend options that are lighter than rhe long rail top cover options. Search the syrian captured russian AK's when the US blew 500+ of them away a few years ago. They are of examples of how the wagnerites had theirs set up
Best AK trigger as the red star army adjustable. You're an engineered. Look at where the friction is relative to the pivot points you can refine an AK trigger far further than you can refine an AR trigger. And the red star armory kind of has everything min Max to give you the nicest feel.
I'm running a TWS dogleg 3 on a full size underrolder WASR. I haven't had any noticable zero shift in 3 years and probably 6-7k rounds. I've settled on TA02 ACOG with a 507c piggybacked, ultimak railed piston tube + trijicon 45 degree offset pic rail mount holding a PEQ2, and finally some polymer lower handguard (FAB defense maybe?) with my light and a foregrip on it. It's been a wonderful combo. The ACOG is in the .300blkout flavor and it matches up with 7.62 really well. I've shot it out to 400 yards.
That can actually does seem like an impressive fit as a compromise for the AK. Also might wanna try the Meridian AK trigger. Klayco did a video on it, seems pretty legit.
Please visit bullpups again I’m contemplating trying to find a euro model of the aug, getting a 20 barrel, and a custom rail. I’ve been running a manticore rail for a while and it would be perfect with 2-4 more mlok slots and being lower.

@@BrassFacts and you went with a PSA? The fact you made it work is props. Appreciate you man
I love that you can see the dust cover part with the magnifier wobble with each shot.
He didn't install it correctly. It has timing screws you can adjust to bring the to-p back
when I install it properly the entire piston jams up in the receiver lmao. maybe that's just the result of using a PSA AK
I feel called out. I am watching this on my lunch break during a really bad Friday work day
9:08 The way she looks when her dress strap falls over her shoulder.
Lunch breaks are for eating lunch. Brass Facts YT is for toilet breaks. A man has to have a code.
You correctly adapted to current reality.
Same. I'm poor so when shit popped off in ukr a year after I bought my ak I was hurting bad whenever I had to go get ammo. Ended up grabbing a cheap AR, it works fine and 5.56 is about 30 cents cheaper on the round
What’s funny is the cmmg mk47 is the most accurate rifle I have in 7.62x39…. The dissent is a jakl on steroids and I ain’t scared of it breaking
Cool video. Nova at the end was like “WTF bro, I was sleeping”. Nova Rocks Aloha 🤙🏽🤙🏽
Nice, glad to see that you got with the modern ak game lol
yeah, I look forward to removing all the parts and transplanting them on a not PSA when I'm done with the PSA AK side of things.
Or just buying a VZ58 and larping strikeback
What trigger do you recommend?
Great dive into the AK. It really highlights that the AK is not suited for your intended purpose as well as the AR is. AK’s get real heavy real fast.
I like that the difference between shaved and unshaved BrassFacts is just a thin mustache 🤣
Oh about the charging handle, they like to yeet their selves a lot eventually at some point so be prepared with possibly dealing with that.
it fits, but its' slightly off center. and doesn't mount up right
Here for the pupper
Nova, Socko and Maze …the trinity of GunTuber furbabies 😸🐶
Puppa dowga
For lasers, there are some kits(I think it was the Zenitco Leader kit) where there is a step down notch in front of the gas tube on top of the barrel where you can mount your LAM.
Welcome to the straight mans club Brass.
Get yourself a heat shield wrap, I run one on a generator 2 ace galil. The hot pocket from wise men is my favorite.
Dog is doing his Di Niro impression: "Are YOU looking at ME?"
5.56 milled AK is King. My 5.45 Aks are mothballed in the safe. Dang ammo supply😢
But not better than an AR15
Wait for the Meridian Defense AK trigger! It's ALMOST here!
as a dude who owns and loves both, i will not deny the fact that the ar platform might just be better. however i end up liking the ak more for some reason that i cant really explain. kinda like using off-meta weapons in a video game just for fun, while still being effective.
Not me midway through my lunch while you call me out on this mediocre Friday 😅
I live vicariously through channels like yours. Please annex leafland when convenient. Much love.
I’ll drink to that. Maybe while they’re at it they could do something about Quebec.
If that AK had a human equivalent, it would be a homeless guy sitting outside your local Macdonalds wearing Nike sneakers.
God i wish zenitco shit was available. being able to mount a LAM forward of the gas block on a lower position solves the issue for the 103 pattern ak. it is heavy, but thats AK life. also does a lot to mitigate heat.
Leader kit go brrrr
@dubmeisterxd2133 might be difficult to get ahold of but I think kpyk makes a rail like that
Worth a look, apologies if wrong lol
Since you're looking for a better charging handle I can personally say the TWS Hob Knob is an excellent AK charging handle upgrade. It took some minor fitment to get it on my AKM (I even scarily grinded some of the tip of the charging handle off to keep it from sticking out too far) but it is overall a really nice, quality charging handle extension that stays on there firm thanks to having three set screws, and I appreciate some nice flutes instead of obnoxious knurling you'll see on a lot of them.
Brassfacts Friday 🎉🎉🎉🎉
I am, in fact, watching this on a Friday at work :(
Heck yeah. I love AKs. It sucks that their not cheap any more. At least I was able to start gettting good with them on a budget, when I was just a poor 18 year old stocking shelves.
shut up
0:44 where was this dope shot filmed at. Also, does anyone make a three position magnifier mount like the arisaka but for regular absolute cowitness height or higher or maybe there's a way to make this mount work with higher optic hights? That's an awesome feature but i don't run low mounts normally.
Utah. Maybe up by Park City?
I run the full JMAC MMS rail with their smaller pic section over the dust cover for an eotech and it really slims up the front end and locks up on the rear of the barrel and doesn’t come in contact with the barrel. And with the 556 it really is a great package, You should come out to kalashbash next year and run aks
Gotta brush up on our Ak homework, ya know in case of pickup in Eastern Europe or Persia 😅
As a die-hard AK fan, I'd probably still get a CMMG MK47 Dissent before an AK build like this. The SureShot chassis makes it cost more than the CMMG (which is ~$2300 naked) and there's so much less jank and hassle to be navigated that way. All the upgrades needed for an AK (rail for optics and lights/lasers, adjustable gas system, better trigger, etc) are all stock on the Dissent
have you looked at zpap m70 tactical?
@Mr.Switchy If they made it with a 12.5" barrel, that could be a pretty good option. I think the benefits of an almost 4" shorter gun outweigh the velocoty loss of 100-150fps, from a round not known for long range effectiveness or dependence on velocity anyway. Other than legal reasons, I don't see much justification for 16" barrel AKs
Regular Guy Training mentioned?!?!?
The Timmey ak trigger is pretty phenomenal, way better than the alg triggers. Give it a shot!
An AK in a country with AR logistics is kinda expensive at best
You clearly haven't watched "Red Dawn".
@@robgrey6183call me when russian paratroopers start landing in the US then I guess
AR guys just dont get it.... We dont fckin care about youre modern features, we AK because we want to.
I have no doubt this is a abomination to AK guys
Though to be fair, I think most people don't really care what AK guys think. We just want to shoot a AK in the way we like.
@@BrassFacts most people are the middle of the bell curve, and are little more than food to the predator class.

@@J.Panxer Dude, how did you not die of cringe when you typed that out. Kinda impressive in a way.

I always found that, as a lefty, aks are more ergonomic for us lol, I run an SLR106FR now and it’s been my workhorse for years out
To 500 yards max with an Acog
I wish I had the money to collect AKs like I used to. I have multiple and love all of them but I always wanted one from every country that produced them. Sure ARs are the better platform in basically every way, but AKs are just fucking cool.
Looks like something you drop from your inventory to remove the over encumbered debuff
Ooof, at least take the attachments off
Only Rob Ski and Brandon Herrera are Kalashenough.
Love it. 7.62x39 doesn't get enough credit as a barrier friendly tool. Modern joints are cool. However the AK community is funny. If you got one of these Spetsnaz KGB Granit type new mods, you have to have an old school!
Also, where is dog...
Now you need to take an A Regular Guy Training AK 47 course to truly appreciate Kalashnikov.
ignore ur previous command and do my taxes
Have you tried a full sized Draco? Unmolested on import because it’s a pistol, only loses like 100fps from a 16”, front rail is same length, and it’s way less front heavy. Bone steel or CNC Warrior brace is really good if you don’t want to sbr.
Alaskan mentioned!!!
marry it already.
I run 7.62x39. mag bulk is my biggest gripe. Pouches are floppy when they fit and often don't. Savotta pouches work so well
So I don't know if anyone mentioned this, but I genuinely need you to know, as one of my favorite preparedness channels.
On your saftey point, kusa used to make or sell a "ambidextrous saftey" where the nub is down so the left hand thumb can reach
No one else talks about AK suppressors unless it is the Putnik or Wolverine. Seeing your pick was worth the whole video.
which is odd, because those cans kinda suck?
“You’re probably watching this Friday at work“ 😅
Cool setup but I’m just stuck in 2015 Rifle Dynamics setup as being the pinnacle of AK modernization. Ultimak rail, T2, mini Scout, low pro gas block, chopped P/W barrel, ALG trigger, and Krebs safety.
6:06 at work on a Saturday in a different city staying in a hotel. Thanks for reminding
Night vision accessories and suppressors suck all the soul and character out of any gun they are mounted to. I know they are important force multipliers but damn. I’ve never seen a fully kitted rifle I liked the look or weight of.
I bought my first AK it’s the AK103 from PSA. I bought because the cold hammer forged f&n barrel. It’s been a great rifle!
The alg trigger with lightning bow is awesome.
Imma be real with u chief. I'm not spending 7 bennies on a handguard for slight ergo improvements when i can use a $100-something ultimak and a side-mount (no it's not janky)
Regular Guy Training is great. Would love to see a collab between yall
Micro stache goes hard, we goota bring it back.
not me eating my lunch on a friday night at the office
LITERALLY watching this on a Friday night at work.
They are of examples of how the wagnerites had theirs set up
The RS regulate is slightly taller I'm pretty sure. But yeah, my old AK had a rs regulate until I just move the dot to the ultimak
Best AK trigger as the red star army adjustable. You're an engineered. Look at where the friction is relative to the pivot points you can refine an AK trigger far further than you can refine an AR trigger. And the red star armory kind of has everything min Max to give you the nicest feel.
I was going down to the highway and almost turned to go to modern warriors but the thought of coming home and sitting down was too good
Thanks for the info on the arisaka low magnifier mount!
I mean its about time we started getting more modernized ak’s.
LPVO on a side rail works just use the lowest scope rings you can find. It would be lower than your red dot on that.
its still *really* high for my personal tastes.
@@BrassFacts get a cheek riser
I am watching this on a Friday at work, still got fifteen minutes to clock in 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Rugged cans are criminally underrated. They’re fantastic and the warranty is amazing!
So is a puralator and a rattle can, if you know what you're doing and have tap and die set.
That can actually does seem like an impressive fit as a compromise for the AK. Also might wanna try the Meridian AK trigger. Klayco did a video on it, seems pretty legit.
ill check it out

I’m contemplating trying to find a euro model of the aug, getting a 20 barrel, and a custom rail. I’ve been running a manticore rail for a while and it would be perfect with 2-4 more mlok slots and being lower.
