I worked on the assembly floor of P&WA in the late 1970s building these and JT 9s. I’m sure I flew on some of the jets of the ones I helped build as I quit and took an electronics job in the Alaska oil field flying in a jet that had these engines every other week. During the build we saw the customer on the paperwork.
I wonder if there is a significant difference in performance between the designs, or why some have different numbers of front fans. I know some low bypass turbo fans have 3 front fans before the bypass duct.
@@BGTech1 if it is rotating at slower speeds, meaning lower velocity. i believe it's the much newer version. due to compliance in reducing pollution, still, with better performance

Good engine, the 727 was called the Whisperjet, but the JT8d does not whisper 😎
The Russian version of the JT8d is the Kuznekov NK 8 series
This is an older JT8D because It has a 2 stage fan. The JT8D-200 series has a single front fan.
