You know most people think that Homer is basically the devil and Marge is a saint and that they should break up but I never saw it that way. Homer is not entirely horrible and Marge is not entirely wonderful. They both have good parts and bad parts. Homer's flaws: Laziness, gluttony, hot temper, and alcohol addiction. Marge's flaws: controlling, possessiveness, and extreme jealousy. Flaws that apply to both: Occasional selfishness, occasional abuse (Homer more physical, Marge more emotional), quick to anger, hypocrisy, judgemental, dishonesty, and insensitivity (though in both their cases it's normally innocent) Good attributes that apply to both: love, good intentions, selflessness, loyalty, and caring. I actually like this couple because they are both full of flaws but also full of good attributes. They're not horrifically all bad like Peter and Lois, but they're not creepingly clean cut perfect like the Flanders. In other words they're human so that makes them more relatable. Not only that but they also bring out the best in each other and would give up anything for each other even their own lives. If that's not love then I don't know what is.
I mean, Homer not only had an absolutely traumatizing childhood where he was isolated, abandoned and relentlessly abused, he also literally has brain damage which is potentially quite severe. His immaturity, impulsivness, selfishness, alcoholism and myriad of other flaws are mostly due to his abysmal upbringing. There are so many times when he works hard to change for the better and absolutely does. But any time he feels shame or is mocked just for being who he is, his family and friends always step in and assure him they love him regardless. A beautiful sentiment if I'm honest. But all of this aside you have to understand the position Marge is in. She's been looking after him like a psudo mother since they were teenagers even despite her own pretty awful childhood. Not only things like cooking, cleaning and looking after their kids. But offering unwavering emotional support and cleaning up his messes even when he does some of the most awful things. Things that nearly leave their family homeless, things that ruin opportunities and sink them deeper and deeper into trouble. Hell, even things that threaten the physical safety and wellbeing of everyone in their city. And that's on top of the everyday stuff like being verbally abusive and constantly drinking himself blind. Yeah Homer genuinely tries his best, and his horrible behaviour isn't totally his fault. But that doesn't excuse it away and doesn't mean he just gets to do whatever he wants. Especially when some it has such serious consequences. She's been holding him and their whole family together for so, so long despite that holding her back. She's a beautiful, incredibly talented woman with so much potential but because she has Homer and the kids to look after she never really gets the chance to shine. Her family has grown to recognize how hard she works and that's why they care so much about her happiness. They love her and wholeheartedly appreciate the sacrifices she's making just to keep them afloat. She's no saint, but honestly she's one of the most patient, loving and understanding characters out there. Lois fell to pieces and became an unforgivibly awful person under the same pressures dealing with Peter. But Marge still stands strong like the rock she's always been. I think it's pretty understandable that her marriage is far from perfect. What, you expect her to *also* make their relationship sweet and harmonious? How much can one woman possibly do?

SuperTed19021, the creators and writers can decide to "age" cartoon characters! Many people have commented that Marge's voice changed over the years, and I noticed the same thing with the late actress Jean Vander Pyl, when she voiced Wilma Flintstone!

Fun fact: this takes place in 1974 and he tolds Bart and Lisa about it 16 years later, when they're 10 and 8. So doing math, if the timeline was adjusted to the latest season, Marge and Homer would've met for the first time in 2007 instead!
Yes, but remember that Homer's age has changed over the seasons, starting here at 34 and in the latest seasons he is said to be 39½ / 40. They also made different stories over time about their past to change some things. It's impressive how much time has passed though!
Honestly teenage Marge is the most beautiful character design in a show I've ever seen. She's good-hearted, intelligent, extremly artsy and down to earth. And with her hair down she looks like a beautiful fairy. I understand Homer and Artie I would have also fallen for her. Although I wouldn't have been so nasty after she said she doesn't want to get out with me.
The first time I heard this song was on the Simpsons. Everytime I hear this song I think of this scene. Oh man how this series has fallen to shit after the 90s.
Think she always liked Homer as well, just went with Alfie Ziff to get a prom date after Homer pi**ed her off. Makes me thing if she didn't, would Alfie be desperate enough to take Patty or Selma? Who knows why that would have led to.....
SuperTed19021, they first met at summer camp, but Homer didn't use his real name! Patty and Selma thought Artie Ziff was a better choice for Marge before he tried to rape her in the car on Prom Night! I don't think Artie would have been attracted to Patty and Selma with their excessively heavy chain-smoking and nasty comments!
Remember folks Homer Originally meet Marge in 1974 because in that same episode Homer was singing The Joker by The Steve Miller Band. Besides this episode came out in Season 2

1:00 Teacher: *Simpson, be quiet.*
That teacher is way tougher than the principal in this episode
@@stefanmovieflixtomasi The voice actor (I think Hank Azaria) really gave 100% on this angry teacher!
Ok..that is so cute...❤
That's why homer is my favorite character
0:44 - I love those added strings and flute.
It's as if Barney had been wearing the same shirt since his youth. :D
Did you see the scene where Barney streaked across the dance floor on Prom Night? I laughed my head off!
What a beautiful moment
1:14
Homer: It was worth it!
I love the callback to Close to You in the Simpsons Movie
Remind me of The Simpson Movie
actually The Simpsons Movie should remind u of this since this was made a good 16 years before the movie.
Everytime I hear this song I think of this episode because this is where I first heard it and I absolutely adore it. 💕
Amazing Simpson homer
Homer's detention teacher is sounds like Max and Zoe's father from Fantastic Max.
0:20 my mom’s favorite song. Every time she listens to it, she starts singing it.
They also used it in spies in disguise
@@bubbie-n-toyland9163also one of the trailers to There’s Something About Mary
This is my favourite episode
The Simpsons is the most timeless show in the universe
It sure is
i like it when there teenagers
I always need to cry at this scene 🥺
I cried on the wedding video it was lovely
Joung homer looks like fry
I see a slight resemblance
This explains why this played in the Simpsons movie
i love how the score throughout the episode uses the opening chords of the song as a theme (like at 0:48)
The first time I heard this song was on the Simpsons. Everytime I hear this song I think of this scene. Oh man how this series has fallen to shit after the 90s.
This is the best Simpsons episode ever
a golden moment.
Yess
Where's the time travelling Bart?
Treehouse of Horror
I HATED that episode!
Looks like the teacher has more beef with Homer than any other student
It’s like Bart
Marge looks beautiful with her hair down😊
The way Homer pulls out of the chair at the end was slick.
Beautiful music!
Awwwww love at first sight
Best episode of the Simpsons
And this is when I started living love songs👍🇨🇿❤️❤️
That's when they met when they was young in High school Nice!
Marge knew Homer had a crush on her from the beginning.
Joshua Kline, did you forget that Homer and Marge first met at summer camp, but Homer didn't use his real name? He NEVER forgot Marge, and in detention, he fell in love with her all over again!
@Lisa Koffler what season was that?
Joshua Kline, I can't remember, but it was still funny!
