Such a joy and highlight of my life to be present at the Opera House for this. The guitars, the bass, the drums, the violins - just mesmerising at every moment. Thank you The Church!!!!!!! 🙂
Ever since I first saw them live more than 20 years ago, I've been waiting for a tangible document of their live performance which I could show to people and say, "See?!? THIS is why I love this band!" With this video, I finally have it. SO glad this concert was recorded & filmed.
Same , have some great live shots from 1984-5 from Sweethearts nightclub ( my local) got to see many many awesome Australian groups there and up close ❤
OMG!!!!!! That was AMAZING! One of the most successful marriages of orchestra and rock & roll I've seen, and an amazing performance by all involved. This had BETTER be available on dvd soon!!!!!
The greatest band of all time!! The energy in this performance makes their physical aging disappear! I've never seen anything like this, bring on the DVD!!!! :D :D :D :D
A live version better than the original.... Loved the original back in the day, love the song even more after seeing this. They're having fun and loving what they do!
1 of 10,000 mile reasons why Marty Willson-Piper will be missed from The Church on the next coming album. IMO he makes up more than half the sound of the band and is one excellent guitarist! OMG this is awesome and wished I had the whole concert to watch! F#$%ing A!
Where did you hear this? Disappointing. Won't be the same. Though I would point out that although he does appear to be more than 1/2 the sound of the band you could be surprised at how much Koppes does on the other side (not to mention Kilbey and of course Tim who stepped in to save the band IMO back in 95 or so). Don't get me wrong I'm a huge MWP fan. I'm pissed (literally and also about this news) - but isn't it great to hear and see the backing orchestra with this though? This whole show is being sold on DVD but the first pressing sold out, so I hear.
always wary about of how live versions of fast tempo tracks are replicated live but agree with Tyrell's comms. So much energy without compromising on quality
God I've been asleep so long, I've been away Back from software limbo the natives call today I let their promises bind me I let seductive logic blind me I embraced a machine, I went through the routine And I hid from the people who were trying to find me Till the day comes when you realize Otherwise you never care Pandora's box reveals a new surprise Can't wait to see your eyes, now you've been tantalized For a hundred and one voluptuous days I broke the law The labyrinth was closing so we panicked up a door I let their wanton flesh obsess me I felt their dreams and drugs assess me I was hired and fired yet never inspired Flattering, chattering words to impress me All that glittered had me mesmerized Otherwise I would have dared Guess the nature of our enterprise Can't stop to sympathize, how you've been tantalized I turned up in some harsh doomed city on another plane I couldn't believe the room I got or the guests I entertained I felt the dirty streets surround me I let the buzzing swarm confound me I gave money to ghosts, I insulted my hosts I could never get off the stuff that spellbound me
I very much love how MWP developed as a live guitarist over The Church's career. Having seen them perform live a couple of times in the 'Skins and Hearts' days, I'm seeing that at first he was in danger of coming off slightly twee' to really 'putting his back into his playing' as witnessed in this performance.
I just did (10/11/17) he's just fantastic, but if Marty wants to quit the church that's his business. Too bad, they have three guitarists live now and they sound better than ever.
OK, folks, just love this, as do you. But, that said, what up with the last Marty killer solo where the camera steadfastly avoids him, as if kids should not see such shredding on live tv...
The best band ever to exist. PERIOD!!
There are no words. These guys are in their 50's and are blowing away bands half their age.
The sound engineers did an AMAZING job of mixing this!!!! So clear and perfectly done!
Such a joy and highlight of my life to be present at the Opera House for this. The guitars, the bass, the drums, the violins - just mesmerising at every moment. Thank you The Church!!!!!!! 🙂
Marty is in the driving seat, the rest of the band have to follow him. Sublime :)
Marty is a very cool guy. I met him doing an acoustic solo gig in a small club in Philly about 34 years ago.
Wow, is this not the greatest live performance by any band ever, the Church, the GOAT
Ever since I first saw them live more than 20 years ago, I've been waiting for a tangible document of their live performance which I could show to people and say, "See?!? THIS is why I love this band!" With this video, I finally have it. SO glad this concert was recorded & filmed.

I enjoyed this clip, but you could barely hear the orchestra at all!
Let’s not get carried away, dear.
this was the next logical step for this powerful song, a full on orchestra backing it.
The greatest band of all time!! The energy in this performance makes their physical aging disappear! I've never seen anything like this, bring on the DVD!!!! :D :D :D :D
probably the most enthralling intro to a live performance song ive ever heard.
This is fantastic! Great song with lots of great energy 👌 👏 👍.
Most amazing interactions. The church is for a certain few who see how wonderful they are. Glad their homeland appreciates this gift.
This is supersonic!!! The real wall of music!! ♥️♥️♥️
I want this on DVD/Blu Ray NOW!!!!!!
Magnificent. Sounds as it always should have.
One of my favourite songs by The Church. Eargasmic!
History will serve them well!
I’m glad I’m not a pick guard. Wow, mind blowing!!!
Epic. What a brilliant idea putting the Church and an orchestra together. The result speaks for itself.
Phenomenal version of one of my all time favorite songs. Heyday!
This is just AMAZING !!! They still are one the best, as a band and the solo acts too.
This version just gets better the more I watch it. Every single person on that stage seems to be feeding of each other. Would love to have been there
Absolutely agree!!
Me too! It's a totally electrifying performance, gives me shivers every watch!
OMFG. What a band.
Majestic in its frenzy :)
Absolutely Awesome!!!!!!! F***ing flawless!!! Gorgeous!!!
Unreal! Thanks for sharing

MWP. Towering. Miss you. Hope you are well. Your guitar makes me weep.
I can't love this more
So amazing!!! I wish I was in that concert
This makes my heart sing.
A live version better than the original.... Loved the original back in the day, love the song even more after seeing this. They're having fun and loving what they do!

479 likes? That's IT? Humanity has failed. This is gold.
the best band in the world - proof!
2.31 is why i love this video so much
Painfully good. Don’t think anything more needs to be said.
God I've been asleep so long, I've been away
Back from software limbo the natives call today
I let their promises bind me
I let seductive logic blind me
I embraced a machine, I went through the routine
And I hid from the people who were trying to find me
Till the day comes when you realize
Otherwise you never care
Pandora's box reveals a new surprise
Can't wait to see your eyes, now you've been tantalized
For a hundred and one voluptuous days I broke the law
The labyrinth was closing so we panicked up a door
I let their wanton flesh obsess me
I felt their dreams and drugs assess me
I was hired and fired yet never inspired
Flattering, chattering words to impress me
All that glittered had me mesmerized
Otherwise I would have dared
Guess the nature of our enterprise
Can't stop to sympathize, how you've been tantalized
I turned up in some harsh doomed city on another plane
I couldn't believe the room I got or the guests I entertained
I felt the dirty streets surround me
I let the buzzing swarm confound me
I gave money to ghosts, I insulted my hosts
I could never get off the stuff that spellbound me
Fantastic, one of the most difficult mixes, rock band and orchestra succeeds here. But how could not mix in pictures of Martys solo at the end??!!
i kept waiting for it, and then i thought "american censorship! they do not think that kids should see such shredding!" but no? just poor filming?
Brilliant!
True masterpiece
mind blown
Timeless
EXCELLENT.
Epic song.

FANTASTIC......
Marty is the Johnny Marr of Australia.

I'm not much into orchestra's as such, but put the Church infront of them........
💪💪💪👍👍👍
🖕
If you aren't a musician, shut up. Otherwise, enjoy the best pop rock/fusion band ever! Saw them first 12 months ago.
