House of the Dragon season 2 will feature many Targaryens and Targaryen dragons.
One of them is Vermithor, the second largest and the most terrifying Targaryen dragon in the Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon, who would quite possibly be a fair match for the biggest Targaryen dragon, Aemond Targaryen’s Vhagar.
Season 2 of House of the Dragon will see Rhaenyra Targaryen’s “the Blacks” fighting Aegon Targaryen’s “the Greens” and both sides need more armies and more dragons to their cause.
This is when Vermithor comes into play.
Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen and her son Jacaerys will call upon the dragonseeds (people with Targaryen blood) and teach them how to approach and claim dragons to fight for their cause, Vermithor being one of the dragons who will accept a new dragonrider.
Vermithor, called the Bronze Fury, is a male Targaryen dragon once ridden by King Jaehaerys I Targaryen known as the Old King.
The Bronze Fury as his nickname suggests is a bronze dragon with great tan wings.
Vermithor was already a large dragon in 48 AC; only Balerion the Black Dread and Vhagar were larger.
By the time of the Dance of the Dragons, Vermithor is almost a hundred years old and a fearsome beast.
We saw Vermithor briefly in House of the Dragon season 1 when Daemon Targaryen approached him and he was still without a mount.
In House of the Dragon season 2 that will change.
We will see more of Vermithor and he will be claimed and ridden for Rhaenyra Targaryen’s cause and fighting for the Blacks, until his rider betrays Rhaenyra Targaryen.

Vermithor has to be the strongest dragon alive. Quicker and fiercer than Vhagar but almost as old and big but not too old to be slow.
Almost as old as Vhagar ? Vhagar is 182 and Vermithor is in his 90s , so basically he's half her age . He just grows WAY faster then other dragons

I think Vhagar actually grew relatively slowly. In lore, Meraxes was around the same age as Vhagar but notably larger. She just died super early.

Yeah sorry if it wasn't clear but I wasn't disagreeing with you, I was just commenting on how Vhagar grew slowly. Just highlighting a much older but slow-growing dragon vs a younger very quick growing one.

Viserys should have never let Hightowers into the family...that was the biggest mistake ever , he should have married within the family...to Laena for example and it wouldnt have been so bad at all cause Laena ended up marriying Daemon anyway and Daemon is only 4 years younger than Viserys

What battles has he been in? I have never heard of any until the dance of the dragons
@@harrysachs17093rd and 4th Dornish wars. 3rd Dornish war was against the vulture king and Vermithor was the only dragon involved. 4th Dornish war lasted only a day as Vermithor, Caraxes and Vhagar destroyed the Dornish fleet in one battle. Caraxes and Vhagar took part in the Myrish bloodbath without Vermithor so in the old kings reign they all fought in 2 wars each. But Vhagar fought plenty before that and Caraxes fought in the stepstones after so Vermithor is not as experienced as either of them.
Maelys and Quicksilver lived through these wars but are not mentioned taking part (being the Queen and Princesses Dragons). Seasmoke was also at the stepstones.

@joefriedman9843 Yes, 45 years before the Dance so all would be less formidable but a terrifying prospect nonetheless. Probably comparable to The Triarchy fleet facing Vermithor, Silverwing, Sheepstealer, Seasmoke and Vermax at the Gullet.

I wonder if Vermithor is actually larger than the others. No one has seen Vermithor for years so they only know Vagar was bigger at the time before Vermithor went into hiding. So there could be a slim chance Vermithor has grown significantly.
Adam of hull doesn't have targeryen blood, so how does he claim a dragon?
He does through Velaryons who have since Aegon’s Conquest constantly been married to Targaryens so their house in general has Targaryen blood in their veins.
He's Laenor's bastard ( in the books ) so he had Targaryen blood
Every Velaryon have Targaryen Blood the Century before Conquest ie: Century of Blood both Houses intermarry by the time of Aenar Targaryen Father of the 3 Conqueror Velaryon are Cousins thats why he had no qualms in marrying Valaena Velaryon Had Targaryen Mother who had a Full brother named Daemon Velaryon the ancestor of Corly Velaryon.

We should have had Vermithor vs Vhagar instead of Caraxes. Biggest missed opportunity
I think it's because Vermithor is basically the best of Caraxes and Vhagar combined, so Vermithor vs Vhagar wouldn't have been that intense. I reckon Vermithor wins comfortably. He beats Vhagar in every department apart from size and even then they're both close in size, so what can Vhagar really do to Vermithor? She's not even as ferocious as him

Caraxes VS Vhagar is more personal . They have been friends for a very long time , some say they were lovers . They flew together when Aemon and Baelon was their riders and later when Daemon and Laena were their riders . Plus it's Daemon VS Aemond....

Vhagar was killed by caraxes who used an ambush, but vermithor got jumped by two dragons and killed both of them before he died, I think the bronze fury has this
Vermithor didn’t kill both. He only killed Seasmoke while Tessarion was shot in the eye much later by an archer.
The two dragons he killed weren’t that big tho, hard to see Vhagar having much trouble with Seasmoke and Tessarion
@@joshuaadams6565Tesarion was shot in the eye to put it out of its suffering, but Vermithor wounded it badly, only reason Vermithor died is because he tried to take wing put collapse while trying to take wing and so broke his body, if he stayed on the ground he would have outlived his wounds
@@lordvader5158 Both tessarion and seasmoke lore-wise are same size if not bigger than caraxes. All of them were about 70 years old yet caraxes in the books is a slim almost disfigured dragon.

Vermithor looks like the meanest and most terrifying Targaryen dragon. I can see him defeating all Targaryen dragons in 1v1, even mighty Vhagar.

He's described as the most friendly though . Probably thanks Jaehaerys' personality and training . Only Caraxes and Meleys could kill him , but they would die in the process

He is the most dangerous and fierce and oldest dragon in house of the dragon. He is huge and very mean. We are going to see him in House Of The Dragon Season 2 but what role he plays is anyone’s guess.
Balerion would demolish him. Unless you were only including the dragons we see in HOTD in which case I agree, The Cannibal and Vhagar would be tough opponents though

Dont be fooled, in their prime both Vhagar and Balerion sweep any dragon in the series, however Vhagar in the show is 181 years old and is near death of old age.

1) Vhagars show design is very cool, but its given the wrong inpression to the audience. Shes not some old senial grandma of a dragon, shes old, but shes fierce and powerful. The older a dragon gets the stronger it gets. Shes essentially exactly where Belarion was during the Conquest.
2) Heres where people's misconception lies. Vermi is powerful, strong, and deadly, vut every advantage he has Vhagar has but bigger. His one advantage is hes likely a little quicker than she is but the book never even states that.
Basically Vhagar is Vermithor + extra size, strength, firepower, durability, and more importantly nearly a hundred years worth more of experience.
Vermithor fought in 2 wars that we know of, and lived a very peaceful life before the Dance. Something only book readers would know, is hes also one of the friendliest of the dragons. He spent his entire life around humans and a very kindly rider.
Vhagar has fought in hundreds of large scaled battles and wars. Literal hundred. Shes called the Queen of Destruction, because despite Belariun having a bigger reputation, Vhagar actually fought more often than he did. Shes also very aggressive, and why Aemonds claim of her was such a big deal, because shed roast and eat people for getting near her.
Ive seen way to many people hating on Vhagar because she killed Araax and Meleys and is riden by Aemond. But people need to give credit to her, as shes the main reason the Blacks were worried and at a slight disadvantage.

The Blacks knew the only way tk fight or beat her was with tactics and speeds. Strength vs strength wouldve been suicide which is why they never sent Vermithor or Silverwing against her. Only Meleys and Caraxes were ever considered a match because of the speed advantage.
If theyd sent Vermithor, theyd be sending a younger, weaker, less experienced version of Vhagar against her. Shed not be avoiding him like Meleys, shed be on the co stant attack and overwhelm a less experienced dragon/rider.

When it comes to dragon fights in the books, unless one is IMMENSELY larger than the other in a 1 v. 1 fight (see Balerion vs. Quicksilver), they both tend to die. If multiple dragons are involved, it depends on which side has the overall size advantage. Not to spoil things but, it generally doesn't end well for any parties involved.
Kinda lame. From one of the longest ruling kings to a bastard oathbreaker that got ambushed while asleep.
Vermithor is mighty , and vhagar is old. But vhagar is not too old to win against any dragon from the dance unless a great tactic like an ambush is involved (carraxes). Maybe Cannibal might have a chance if he lives upto those stories. Otherwise vhagar is unbeatable in a face to face 1 on 1 , she is a soldier of 100 battles who acts involuntarily as a war machine like in the case of Lucerys. Granny literaly layed fire to whole cities back in her younger days. Other thing is except for the large weight making it hard to fly and make them slow, dragons don't get affected by age like humans. Older and bigger dragons are stronger.
Idk if vermithor had a rider by the time of rooks rest battle. I believe vermithor would’ve demolished Vhagar, she’s too old and tired. Vermithor is literally the reason the blacks could reclaim the throne.
