It's wild to me some Americans live without electric kettles. Who doesn't want their water to boil in 60 seconds? Making pasta? You just saved yourself 10 minutes waiting for the water to heat. Want a hot water bottle in winter/on your period? Done in a minute with a perfect pouring spout. Want noodles at 2am? Done and without having to burn yourself trying to get the bowl out of the microwave. They're not just good for tea they are useful literally any time you need boiling water.
Haha as a Pennsylvanian, I totally relate Like that one season which isn’t completely allergy season you think you won’t get them again, and then when the next season starts you can’t breathe out of your nose and your eyes are watering and red
Also be prepared to have to change allergy meds! My college campus and my hometown had very different flora, so the meds that worked at home didn't work for me at college and vice versa
College sophomore here and just bought an electric kettle last week, INFINITELY better after heating water in a microwave all last year. Some colleges may not allow them bc there's an exposed heating coil but just don't let them know and stay safe
Lap desks are also just helpful for schools nd work in general. You can have a desk or whatever at home all you want but like... Bed. And if you have medical emergencies where you're stuck in the hospital or at home(happens more often then you'd think) it gets really useful.
i know right? i live in the US but my parents lived in the UK for years and a kettle was a must 💀 i do not understand americans who don't use one it's the same for making rice in anything other than a rice cooker
Can confirm that those chairs do indeed suck. They gave us one of the half normal half rocking chairs. The rocking chair part was in the back, so whenever you sat on it you felt like it was about to fall over. They were so uncomfortable that I ended up using one of my pillows for back support. Also, electric kettle. They were a life savor. The dorms were always freezing. Having a hot chocolate ready quick was heaven. And as a night owl it was nice not waking up my roommates with the loud microwave.
As someone who lives in Pennsylvania (and not in the city but in a valley where allergies really attack) I can approve the fact that the pollen number here is higher than Empire State building
I can vouch for the electric kettle, ESPECIALLY if you don't have a kitchen in dorm. Makes it super easy to make instant noodles at 3am while you're writing that paper you had several months to do in a single night
The college I went to like a week ago, just a tour but yeah, it had like a room at the middle of the hall, completely open, there was couches, a TV, a fridge and a kettle!! It was really nice lmao
I may be American, but it pains me to see people make their tea by getting hot water, putting a tea bag in it, then putting it in the microwave. Probably because I live in Europe.
Oh heck yah i’ve lived in Pennsylvania my whole life and I don’t have allergies but apparently the air has so much pollen that I sneeze all the time bring the stuff
I’ve personally made a google doc for myself with a personalized packing list with links to specific items that I want + tips, websites and some goals that I have for myself. I recommend doing that imo because you can customize it as much as you want and don’t have to worry about finding a link again or the owner of the doc deleting the doc once they don’t need it or something.
Kettles are not uncommon at all, but electric kettles are. They're just not needed as we drink real coffee from a coffee maker rather than hot tea and instant coffee.
1. IM SO EARLY 2. my college campus is LITTERED with cats, and as a cat enthusiast whilst also being allergic, I cannot tell you how many times ive taken allergy medicine from my friend who does not have any allergies and she just keeps then around just in case!!😌
The tea kettle is so true!!! My roommate brought one and it changed my life! I bought one for myself. Disagree on the laptop desk though. I found working in bed super uncomfortable. I recommend just getting those cushions for chairs instead. They have ones made with memory foam that are super comfy.
no literally i dont even have allergies but my sinuses are flooded half the time here because everything is awful and there is no good in this barren land
This is a nice list, but I do plan on going to college by where I am now, so I wouldn’t really need the allergy meds. I am getting the kettle and lap desk, though.
It doesn't matter, there's going to be days where your allergies are going to flare up. You don't have to take them everyday. I don't. It's better safe than sorry to bring a packet with you.
As someone who is growing up in Kansas I don’t really think it would matter Mother Nature is the most random person on earth here. For example, for the last week the weather was down in the 40s but this weeks it’s supposed to be in the 80s.
I live in Missouri and my sinuses are already messed up because if you didn't know Missouri has weather that could be 70° one day and the next day could be below freezing
I'm going to be staying in my state for college so I'm used to the Louisiana allergens, but lemme tell you, if you go to school in a southeastern state or Louisiana, definitely bring allergy medicine, it's very humid here with a lot of plants you won't find anywhere else and it's a bad way to find out you're allergic to cypress
Oh jeez, I live in NorCal surrounded by agricultural land. Person who lives here: “Do you have allergies?” Person who just moved here: “Me? No, not at all.” Person who lives: “Don’t worry. You will.” 😂
It doesn't really matter how you heat up water. Energy is energy. As long as you add enough energy to the water one way or another, it will boil. Sure, the microwave might be slower, but given some time, it will do the job
I grew up in PA, have been on allergy meds since i was like 9. Going to college in CT and i brought them with me because idc if it’s “better” here or whatever, i would rather chop my own foot off then have a stuffy nose at night
I when from living out side the Atlanta premier to living coastal Georgia in South Georgia for a year and I was like where are my allergies that year of college that I was used to.

I laughed so hard at this because I'm from Pennsylvania and I absolutely loved that
I can't believe that kettles are still rare in America, almost everyone in the UK has one and it would be weird if someone didn't lol
I love watching these videos even though I’m still a freshman in high school
Haha same

What kinda psychopath doesn't use a kettle-
I can vouch for the electric kettle, ESPECIALLY if you don't have a kitchen in dorm. Makes it super easy to make instant noodles at 3am while you're writing that paper you had several months to do in a single night
Id add Rubbermaid food containers and a large cup with a lid. After you eat take a salad or pizza back to your room along with a fountain drink.

I may be American, but it pains me to see people make their tea by getting hot water, putting a tea bag in it, then putting it in the microwave. Probably because I live in Europe.
That is literally the worst way of making tea I've ever heard of! Why don't they at least put the tea bag in once the water is hot?!
Microwaves are for for not water
That why a kettle is an essential and not special in a European home
Especially the tea country UK
wtf is this i live in america and this is atrocious
As an ohioan, yea you need allergy medications in the mid west
Oh heck yah i’ve lived in Pennsylvania my whole life and I don’t have allergies but apparently the air has so much pollen that I sneeze all the time bring the stuff
Another thing for allergy medicine, if you go to a lot of outside events and are bad/lazy with sunscreen, it helps with the itchiness of the sunsburn
