So funny when the guy in the checkered shirt can't make eye contact throughout the session. Classic. The throwing of rice was a wish of fertility and prosperity to the married couple and it actually comes from the Celts on your side of the pond.
About the Euros, there's a running joke in America about how colorful the Euro currency are. Akin to the colour of rainbow. That's why some think of it as gay currency.
We throw rice to wish the married couple happiness and good luck. I think it is also supposed to symbolize having children somehow. A lot of people now adays switch out the rice to bird seed because birds were choking on the rice. I'm surprised its not done in GB, I thought it was pretty universal in the west.
Don’t you think that if birds choked on rice, they’d also choke on seeds larger than rice grains?? Rice throwing is meant to signify a good harvest, so it’s thrown at weddings as a well-wish to fertility. Many people started switching out rice for a number of bird safe things to throw in its stead, due to rumors in the 80s that rice was causing birds, not to choke, but to explode due to the uncooked rice expanding in their little bird bellies; neither of which is true. The tradition can be traced back to the Middle Ages & is probably much older, still.

@@planetjase Actually we don't say that at all. Never heard anyone say that. Euros term was used because many americans believe europe is "sophisticated."
The tradition of throwing rice dates back to the ancient Romans. Throwing rice at the bride and groom was thought to bring fertility, wealth and good luck to the newlyweds. Other cultures threw different types of crops at the married couple, such as oats, wheat and corn. These are all crops that grow, but rice was the tradition that was the most popular. In the U.S.A. they have been doing it for as long as I can remember. My parents had rice thrown on them when they married in 1950.
Throwing rice must be just an American thing lol. After the ceremony as the bride and groom are leaving the venue, people would throw rice, don’t know why. Well “was” an American thing until people realized the birds would eat it and explode 😂…literally. So now people throw birdseed or blow bubbles or some other shit. One of those weird things that happens at all weddings but no one really knows why…just a way of celebrating I guess.
We throw confetti over the bride and groom after their ceremony when the walk back past everyone. Usually just before the bouquet throw. So I'm guessing this is pretty much what you guys do then instead of the confetti. Cheers for explaining. Appreciate it.
The whole controversy about the rice and exploding bird stomachs turned out to be false, it doesn't hurt the birds at all (that myth was started by a 1996 Ann Landers column), but yes, I remember when everyone said not to do it and switched to birdseed or some other thing
@@brianlewis5692 now we throw bird seed because of a false statement made before we could fact check it 🤣🤣🤣 But I honestly have no idea where the traditional comes from.

What Is the Rice Toss? The rice toss is a symbolic wish to the just-married couple for a life of prosperity and fruitfulness, which to the ancients meant many children. As a blessing, guests shower the couple with rice as they exit the ceremony
Key is the tall, thinner, bald one and Peele is the shorter one with a rounded face, body and has hair. My parents, a nonreligious Jewish man and Quaker woman, had rice thrown at their wedding in Pennsylvania (US) in the early 1960's.
Throwing a handful of rice or seeds means a wish of luck for the future of the married couple. It is an ancient Roman practice and still done in some cultures.
