i know it’s popular to hate the main characters of our childhood tv shows but i feel like carly was actually a good character. her only “flaw” was being a basic white girl lol. but she was relatable, pretty funny, and she wasn’t stuck up like some of those other (tori) hoes. she was kinda prissy but never too entitled. she was a real one to sam and basically parented her older bother. i have to stan tbh.
Carly’s character worked because she had a sense of humor and didn’t take herself too seriously -just like the show itself. She was the perfect protagonist because she has all the basic traits of an average teen girl but also had these fun little quirks that makes her interesting to watch

I HATED how Schneider made Miranda Cosgrove so plain and boring in her own show because on Drake & Josh she was intelligent, devious, sassy and funny. It’s like he tried to dumb her down to come across as this quirky quiet girl but it really just made her character less interesting. Idc I still Stan iCarly, Victorious AND Zoey 101 🙌🏿👑❤️

Mo Huff She honestly was sassy and clever. Megan’s main goal was just to make Drake and Josh’s life hell, and she didn’t develop that much as an actual character. Carly did. Whenever Sam threw sarcasm at her, she would throw it back, and her high-strung, “just doing my best” type humor really played well off of Sam and her more aggressive humor, and made their dynamic amazing. She was clever, and knew how to get what she wanted a majority of the time. I would argue she had more actual depth and growth as a character than Megan. Her sass usually came from her being pushed over the edge (which made her a bit more compelling), but she could also just throw it back in an everyday conversation. Just my take though.

Angie K Carly Shay reminds me of a manic pixie dream girl. I do agree that she had better character development as Carly in comparison to Megan. I just never viewed her as “clever”. She was a good friend, big sister and logically minded. Yet there were numerous episodes where she would have moments that made her seem less than intelligent-especially compared to some of the dudes she dated. It’s like Schneider has this thing with his female protagonists that in order for them to be intelligent they have to be diabolical of some sort. His positive characters are usually weak and boring. I don’t get it.

The Dingo's episode was about Sonny With a Chance. Apparently, the idea of an ordinary girl who starts to work on her favorite comedy show was from Dan Schneider, but he decided to change his plot and make the girl the star of her own web show. However, if you think about it, the skits and the humor of So Random were still very similar to iCarly's.
kinda wonder if the producers of sonny with a chance would confirm that (not saying that they couldn't).

My ONLY problem with that show was Cookie all of a sudden falling in love with Lisa Zemo when she went from being the ugly duckling to a beautiful swan. That girl was crazy for him, and he wanted nothing to do with her. But then, she comes back with new hair and no braces and a better allergy medication routine and new clothes and all of a sudden, he was so madly in love with her. Like, you ain't slick, we know you only care about appearance

don't forget the episode when Carly and Sam were auditioning varying talents for Ms Briggs. I believe he was also beatboxing. It's the episode where Freddie came up with the idea for them to start the webshow.

I honestly hated seeing Sam abuse Freddie so much. In the beginning, it was funny but after season 2 it got old so quick and it honestly sets up a bad example for kids watching...like it's cool to physically hurt someone who's nerdy or dorky. Dan Schneider has a theme of making sure the nerd characters get abused

Long story short, the girls had no creative control and they were not happy with how their show was turning out so they fired the company. Thank u for coming to my long ass Ted talk 💀

I always liked how chill and low-key True Jackson VP was compared to other Nick sitcoms.
FREDDY, SPENCER, AND GIBBY SLAPPED AND SAVED ICARLY CONSTANTLY. the show itself was top notch but those three kept it interesting over the years and for so many seasons too.

I won't deny the fact that nickelodeon still making better shows than disney. I actually laughed watching some random episodes of henry danger and the thundermans. The kim kardashian episode.... was gold.
Lupino yeah Disney just had I guess more memorable music along with really likeable characters but Nickelodeon had that content... that good content.

I wish people would stop making characters like that; the message that toxic shit humans should be rewarded with relationships to "fix" them needs to rot in hell (the kind of foul attitude is how we get shit like 50 Shades and the entirety of the Reylo fandom). The thing is, Sam’s family ALL have criminal records including Sam (Except for Melanie). She is wanted in countries, BANNED in Europe. And her mom would NEVER feed her, never payed attention to her, so she always went to Carly’s house to have food there.
She is always going to Carly’s house for food because her home was like a starving cage. Not to mention on iStage An Intervention, she escaped out her window to leave her house which shows she practically has to escape her house to go to Carly’s house.
I get where you’re coming from, but I feel like Sam is a lot more dangerous and abvsed more.
One thing I find problematic in retrospect from icarly is the toxic bullying Sam did on Freddie. I don't understand how this was considered funny bc it became receptive and annoying and I get that they dated afterwards but its still leaves a bad taste on my mouth looking back on it. Other than that I love icarly

You’re video has just made me realize why I like Disney and Nick in different ways. Disney brings the magic and music while Nick brings the extreme comedy in a way that just makes you laugh at any age.
Big Time Rush would be a great video topic! Lol I used to be obsessed with them and since re-watching the show on Hulu I’ve actually realized that it’s really funny. Aside from the good music they actually had great comedic timing and I especially loved when they would use cartoon sound effects but in a real setting. Also lets not forget how amazingly talented they were from filming the show & movie and then going on tours and doing press constantly.

i think the whole thing about sam having implied "black" characteristics is harmful to us african americans. saying that sam would be black if her physical characteristics were taken away is just playing into stereotypes that racists see us as. just because she loves chicken, watermelon, and grape soda doesn't make her any less of a white girl, and it doesn't mean that nickelodeon was trying to make a "black" character. don't imply that black parents are typically deadbeats/crazy. this whole "trying to be black" thing is getting old. we aren't what our stereotypes are.
Obviously we aren’t but you can’t disregard the fact that the people who wrote these characters, the producers have racist and sick backgrounds and it’s very obvious that was their intent. And the history of how Nick writes black characters have always been stereotypical. It’s not us claiming these stereotypes, it’s just us identifying the blatant use of them and the characters they correspond to and what implications these writers held.

The most mindblowing thing about the iFix a Pop Star episode was that they made a fake celebrity based off of Britney Spears when they had Britney Spears' LITTLE SISTER Jamie Lynn Spears starring in Zoey 101. Granted, Zoey 101 already ended when that episode came out but still. Zoey 101's theme music was made by Britney (and some others) and they also had Bryan Spears (their brother) be one of the producers for the show.

Jerry Trainor is so good. When I think of Drake & Josh I think Crazy Steve. I looked it up and this dude was only in like 10 episodes out of all them years. Reoccurring role yet everyone remembers him more than some of t,he supporting characters. Also probably why he became a main character on iCarly. My mans need some respect. Lol
On one of Michelle Platti’s videos she explained why Nickelodeon make u hate the main characters and her reason is to warm you up for the spinoff show that’s why they make the main character so bland and boring it’s all to get u to like the side characters enough to watch the spinoff.

I loved I Carly, I also noticed things I had problems with.
Like Sam's treatment of Freddie and absolute lack of consequences, amongst other things. I think Carly as a character wasn't bad but just more average.
the fact that Spencer didn't hesitate to answer when Carly asked what size dress he wears always got me.
I just got done watching the bloopers episode of victorious and even “Rex” is supposed to be stereotypically black 😂 I know it sounds silly but there’s a scene where dan is talking to rex and it’s like this fake audition between Rex, Robbie, and Dan and he says “oh, that’s great but more URBAN”.....🙄
Alex Meyers did a video on victorious and he also called that as well. Its weird so many racial.undertones on alot of Dan Schneider shows

When you first asked what Disney show ripped off icarly I thought about that failed show bizaardvark, but after doing some research that show came about in 2016 and apparently they were talking about good luck Charlie. Idk I don’t really see the similarities enough to be able to understand why they would dedicate a whole episode to it but Nick and Disney constantly steal ideas from each other so the episode could’ve been just in general the rivalry they have.
I thought it was Sonny With a Chance? I'm not even sure Good Luck Charlie existed yet when that episode of iCarly came out.

Listen I’m not black so I don’t think it’s my place but at least Sam is a white girl.....I never noticed that she was coded as black until you put the puzzle pieces in front of me all in order. Like I remembered most of those things separately but not as a whole. That being said iCarly was super white they barely had black extras let alone guests or main characters. Idk how I never noticed the blatantly obvious stereotype before though I feel like a fool 💀. However the whole Latina thing- Nick and Disney both did us wrong. They always used Latina as a punchline and something you just throw in there last minute i.e. Alex Russo, Tori Vega, and I know there’s another one but I can’t remember(maybe a Demi lovato character?). All of them had random lines thrown in when they were called white just to say they were “latina”. And none of them were straight up Latino they were always white adjacent and as a little brown Mexican girl I was always amazed at how white these Latina girls were made to be. They didn’t even get Latin identities like Puerto Rican Cuban it Mexican they were just “latina”. And anytime there is a character who is supposed to be of Latin descent they were straight up stereotypes which is more of a disney channel thing if my memory serves me correctly. Nick didn’t have a million guest actors all the time like Disney shows did. When I think about Nickelodeon obviously has its faults and has always been really white washed but I don’t think they were ever super racist Disney on the other hand? Disney has some explaining to do bc I know there were a few shows as a kid that would make my eyebrows go up bc they would say some low key racist shit. Like I’m pretty sure that one character from that so raven who was friends with Raven’s nemesis was always being made fun of defeminized and she was like the only dark skin person on that show? I might be wrong it’s been a long time since I saw all these shows but idk all those shows were lowkey problematic

Your right it’s so still bothers me on how the darkest girl on the show was the mean angry aggressive BULLY ! I noticed in a lot of kids shows they always make the darkest girl either mean and aggressive or ghetto and ratchet that no boy wants. Also don’t forget about how the little black girl who was Devon’s sister was the stereotypical evil mean little black girl who HATES her brothers girlfriend. I do appreciate that there was a relatable black girl as the main character and her mother was brown skin with natural hair but there was a lot of stereotypes in Thats so Raven too.
Disagree with Alex Russo, it was said she was half Mexican, half Italian; she even had a Quince! As a Puerto Rican girl it meant a lot that hispanic culture was thrown in at points(in almost every episode from the mother). Although I wish Disney/Nick would explore it more, maybe not just make them “half latina half (insert something)”, just full latina/hispanic
The only Latinx character I remember on Disney that wasn’t white Latinx or white passing was Esteban, and as much as I used to love him, every other scene w him was insanely stereotypical. I was happy to see at least a lil rep back then but looking back... that mess doesn’t even count as rep lmao

I think Disney channel tried to copy Nickelodeon when suite life of zack and cody had their own website episodes with London Tipton. They even brought chris brown guest starring with the cheetah girls for London Liptons "yay me" show, when Icarly was doing that too showing " the plain white tees", David Archeleta etc. I think they tried doing a love triangle with Hannah, Lilly and oliver. Nickelodeon were the first to do the "save our planet" earth day pep talks before Disney started doing it. They copied some formulas from the old show "Taina" for "That's So Raven" well at least 3 things: 1-showing footages of their city with music when going to the next scene. 2- having Adrienne bailon play a mean girl. 3- having the main character sing her theme song Taina did it first. Maybe they just borrowed or hire someone from their team, like how some artists use the same choreographer in different music videos. I'm not sure what else 🤔

You must’ve forgotten the triangle in Girl Meets World between Riley, Lucas and Maya they took TWO SEASONS for that love triangle🤦🏾♂️it was irritating. When both of those ships were trash in my opinion RIARKLE WAS THE SUPERIOR SHIP AND THATS ON THAT!
