I had a tame common snapper, I raised from a baby. When it was baby, it would snap his head back, like he was biting, but with no biting. I starting rubbing his head when he did this. Eventually, he stopped acting like he was going to bite, too wanting to get his head scratched. Then, from there he started following me like a dog, always seeking my attention. He got to 16 inches, before I lost him in a flood. I have raised many snappers since and still do, but I have never had one with the same puppy tame attitude. Lol

I think one of the neatest things about Snappy, besides how tame he is, is an 80 year old man that's raised him for 31 years. And Bill is one of the friendliest and kindest people I've met in life. So glad I had the connections and resources to help build the new home.

This was great to see. I've been trying to figure out how to go about setting up a better indoor area for my snapper. He's only 50 lbs and 15 years, but I'm hopeful to get more ideas from your channel.

That's a fairly large turtle you have. He is going to need a good ecosystem. I visited Snappy last month, its working great. Sand bottom, clear healthy water and Bill hasn't done a water change in over one year. Set up properly these systems take care of themselves. Thanks for watching!

I caught a huge , what I thought at the Time , a huge alligator snapper, in a pond in nebraska about 30 years ago. She dwarfed the common snapper you have here. I figured her to be about 60 lbs. But, knowing what I know now, she was probably close to 100 or more. Her neck was as long as my entire arm, and almost as thick as a baseball bat. Her claws were longer than my hand and fingers combined. Of course I'm only 5' 7". It turns out she may have been a hybrid? She had a large dome of a shell with spikes like alligator snappers have. My buddy actually caught it fishing and was to scared to come within 50 feet. So I positioned my self to extract the hook and took it out of her jaw. She got back in the water and turned her head back at me a stared for a short minute. I think she was thanking me. I just remember her head was much bigger than my hand, about the size of my now 10 year old about 20 lb all snapper.. reminds me I need to do a water change for my turtles

What a great video and even more great for Bill and Snappy! That underwater closeup was so cool, I can't wait to see more.
On the Biofalls filter system, does the intake come from the other side of the pond and run along the wall there? I see a box it seems to run through, pre-filter?
I'll be sure to check out more videos.
    Thanks!

I loved helping on this one! The Bio Falls is at one end and the submersable pump is at the opposite end inside a "plastic cage", Aqua Block from AquaScape. The Aqua block holding the pump is surrounded in 8-10 inch rocks, with 1-2" river rock filling voids acting as a "pee filter" to catch anything big before it gets too the pump.
