The Now Now album is so good. In my opinion, it's really optimistic in a depressing situation. Songs like this and Humility, it's like "hey I know life sucks right now. I know you're holding on to things that are mentally pulling you down. It's okay to be sad today because tomorrow will be full of genuine smiles." 2D is a great spokesperson for that and I'm so happy that his life is changing for the better for him now. We can definitely see it throughout The Song Machine. I really wish happiness to all of them and to the listeners as well.

I was just listening to this crying in my bed, and then the bass line made me think of that one meme with the dancing cockroach. Help, I cant stop laughing.
Just completed an absolutely traumatizing overseas divorce process from the one and only man I've ever had a relationship with; my kid and I are now free from him and the years of abuse he subjected me to, and we're flying back to our home in USA, and this whole album (especially Kansas, holy shit), has been an almost perfect soundtrack to the crazy mixture of emotions, memories, and struggles throughout all of this. Hurt like fuck when it all started back in November, but with our flight home so soon, I feel happier, stronger, and more alive than I have in the 17 years I was with my ex. Thank you, Gorillaz, for always giving me a soundtrack that aligns with whatever life throws at me. You might just be a bunch of cartoons, a singer, and an illustrator, but you've been by my side, in my ears, and in my soul for so long, y'all are practically a part of my DNA at this point.
I hope you feel better. I’ve been listening to Gorillaz since I was little (4 or 5) I’m 15 now and their songs have always help me get through things I never thought I would get through. It feels good knowing that someone who is going through something that heartbreaking is able to feel better with their music as well. I don’t know why it makes me feel all sorts of happy. Anyway, I hope you and your kids are a lot better now :))
Goddammit, Melon described this album as "a day at the beach but you're too sad to enjoy it" and that is the EXACT vibe I am getting from this song. Upbeat with a dash of melancholy
I seriously hope Ace isn't some conspiracy catalyst for Gorillaz lore.i feel something brewing under the surface and hope it doesn't give a big fuck you to The Now Now album.
Last year I was really depressed. Nothing was going right. I was scared of everything that was happening in the world, and fearing for my family. This song just allowed me to let it all out as soon as it says “I’m Not Gonna Cry”. Hope everyone is doing alright. You got this. It’s okay to cry sometimes.
A whole year later, and I still really like this song, essentially the whole album was amazing, it helped me get through a tough break up with someone I ounce thought was my worthy of my love (but not anymore) and it made me come at peace with not only myself but the ordeal that had consumed me for months on end, and I finnaly had moved on instead of depressingly waiting for nothing to come back. So, thank you Gorillaz, you're all one talented bunch, and I love y'all for it! Edit: younger me didn't know how to correct his spelling which is kinda embarrassing, but still has it's charm. Nonetheless, I enjoy looking back on this album by Gorillaz, especially this and a few other songs that really helped me cope after a bad break up that, now that I think about it, it Ieft it's scars but also help shape the person I am today, as corny as that may sound. Though the memories are incredibly bitter sweet, it never feels dull looking back. Hope you all are doing well if you read this. :)
This song has really helped me heal after my dog passed away on the 30th. I'm heartbroken and I've never been this hurt, but I find so much peace is this album and this song that it's helped me keep my head up even at my worst. I'm thankful.
This album seems to perfectly capture peoples hurt about losing loved ones, both those worth missing and those not. I think that was the intention, as this album is all 2-D's perspective after their latest separation from Murdoc.
This is the first song I've ever felt like crying to. For a solid 2 hours I have been up at night on the brink of tears because of issues and problems I have, like being an orphan, and a lot of other fine treats life has for me. And I didn't cry once, but I allways feel like I will soon, like having the feeling of a sneeze even though you never do or will. The pain is so terribly good, the best kind of worst, the best bad there is, truly amazing.
Failure and heartbreak, man. It hurts like the end of the world. This song has an amazing effect of bringing it all forward and making you wanna cry. This album got me through my depression and greif after a good friend of mine died in her sleep back in August. This song helped me process my emotions and thoughts during those dark times.
(Music video) It starts with a closeup of Ace's hands as he starts playing the bass. The camera pans out to see him, 2D, Russ and Noodle. After a closeup of each of their faces, the camera stops on 2D (start of first chorus). As 2D starts to sing, he briefly recalls his old relationship with Paula (1st "I'm not gonna cry"). A quick mashup of images highlighting his failed relationship with her appear and then disappears ("find another dream"). A small dust storm appears off in the distance, unnoticed by any of them ("Memory of my fall from grace in your heart"). 2D faces the camera and grabs it, spinning it around. Eventually, it stops spinning and lands on Russ (start of second chorus). Russ remembers his friend Del and on the verge of crying, finally comes to terms with his friend saying goodbye after being exorcised many years ago ("find another dream"). The dust storm begins to get bigger as it gets closer to them and picks up speed. ("Put my engine back into overdrive") A nearby and unaware yak is caught up and begins to swirl inside the storm ('So I can breathe again"). The camera this time stops on Noodle (start third chorus). Remembering her childhood of being part of a super soldier program, Noodle sheds a single tear and wipes it away (2nd "I'm not gonna cry"). At this point, the dust storm becomes a full tornado and as the camera stops on Ace, they all get caught up in the tornado. All four are lifted into the air ("Save the way to me") and begin tumbling through the air. The yak is seen flying past them several times ("It's getting nasty") as they get higher and higher. Suddenly, the violent whirlwind begins to calm as they get close to the top ("But if I got it right"). After they reach the apex, the tornado dissipates ("But I'm incapable"); 2D reaches up into the air and as all four begin falling back towards Earth, they are shown to be wearing parachutes and pull the cords one by one (in reverse order from earlier, in time with the riffs beginning at 3:07). Ace flashes back to his past as an instigator against the PPG and catches both his and Noodle's guitars; passing Noodle's guitar to her, they play several more notes as they continue to descend ("Save the way to me"). They all land safely and discard the parachutes ("find another dream"). Each one having resolved to move on from their past, they get inside the GEEP and drive away.

Who else randomly scrolls through comments looking for something philosophical and how the lyrics relate to the current situation but ends up just finding regular comments.
The combo of the vocals from 2-D and Ace's fucking bass along with the sweet but kind of thicc tune in the background makes this amazing melody that sounds so good. Definitely the best Gorillaz song I've ever heard.
This song reminds me of my dog, his name was Teddy, he was a very good dog and if he still sees me, wherever he is, I send him a big hug and I wish him luck wherever he is.
Yo I listened to this song the other day when I was feeling super super low & it actually kept me from doing something I wouldn't live to regret. Thanks Damon, Jamie, and all the other talented people who worked on it, y'all literally saved my life 💖💖💝💝
Limey Blimey it’s always nice to hear when something like this has a such a defining positive influence on people. That, in my opinion, is one of the greatest things that an artist can do for the world. Hope you’re still doing alright! Bad moments will pass, and it’ll be alright in the end 👍
As someone who only listened the first time due to living in Kansas, I have gained a much deeper connection with the song than I originally thought. I love the Gorillaz songs that are more thorough and emotional. Don't get me wrong, songs like Dirty Harry and Dare are amazing, in fact they are some of my favorites, I just feel like this came out of the blue for me in a way that I feel represented in the song. A whole new appreciation for Gorillaz.
love the sounds at 4:00 on the background ... great artists always put those little awesome details on their songs even if very few people will notice or its in the end of the song
The perfect song to listen to when you feel depressed and when you feel you wanna cry. I listen to this whenever I feel really down and wallow in my selfpity, feeling worthless and a failure in life, as I'm nearing my middle ages, haven't had love for five years, still have no kids of my own and feel no hope as no women even want to give me a chance by repling on the dating sites and app but keep on ignoring me.
Man, that little chime in the background at the end sounds so sweet and sad. I love it man. This song in general is so good at conveying an indescribably bittersweet emotion. Songs don’t usually make me tear up but something about this one just really gets to me.
Take this frickin song, illegally download it onto my PC, transfer it into an SD card, crush it up into a fine dust, melt it, and then inject it into the spinal cord of my clinically depressed joke of a body. Please
This is one of the best albums in my opinion due to the fact that it is written in damon/2D's perpective, damon is jsut talking about his life at the moment, all be it using a lot of metaphors.
@Ibrahim Abid Thats what I thought but breaking up with someone you love is worse than them never loving you in the first place. I know just from it happening but it's different for everyone. have a good life❤
i listened to the live version of this album constantly before it came out. this was my favorite song. when i listened to the studio album, i was completely composed until this song came on. i heard the bass and literally lost it and started sobbing. i was so happy. i adore this song so much, listening to this album the first time probably made me the most euphoric ive ever been.
One day I got a bad grade on an assignment at uni. I remember I drove back home listening to this song, holding back my tears and repeating "I'm not gonna cry" to myself while stuck on traffic. It's such an insignificant memory yet it's so deeply carved into my mind. It's weird. Maybe it's the song.
I think what makes this song so relatable to so many people is that it's about a new start, it's about struggling with the past and just being in your misery but knowing that there is a tomorrow and you will find something or someone else that inspires you. In the darkest moments you think you might be incapable of healing, but eventually you will get back on your feet. Eventually you will feel like you can breathe again and process life. If anyone reading this is in the same mindset as me these days, just remember that life will go on. You won't always be this depressed mess of a person, just keep going and look for the things that make you happy and focus on them.
I was not gonna cry. It's too late. This song creates a massive feeling of peace in me. Love the song and the album! Thanks Damon and Jamie for The Now Now!
I don't know if anyone else though of this, but that title is pretty fitting considering that Kansas is home in Wizard of Oz and 2D is singing about his "journey home".
Makes me wanna kiss my currently nonexistent girlfriend as we slow dance on the roof of a deserted industrial building in Redhook while the sun sinks into the horizon behind the silhouette of the Manhattan skyline
this was one of the songs that i wasn't in the right headspace to love when it was released last summer, but it's perfect to my brain now. love gorillaz for that reason.
I've listened to this song dozens of times, but tonight I finally, really heard the lyrics and now I'm crying. I wonder if I'll ever heal, it's been so long now and my feelings are still the same.
I lost a meaningful friendship I've had for the past 8 years in December. It feels like a part of me was ripped out and died in front of me. They were my best friend, I've shared so many things with them and even helped them in their times of need. They've been distant for the past year, amd we haven't been talking. I saw all the signs that our friendship was dying, but I ignored it and kept pretending that everything was alright regardless of how scared and in emotional pain I was in. Eventually, it was just too much and I needed to know what was happening. In their words, they changed into a different person while I haven't, and as a result we couldn't connect anymore. I cried my eyes out for two days, kept crying occasionally afterwards. It still hurts. I miss them a lot. I'm sad and angry and i want to call them out on how much shit they're full of for saying that. I know I can't, because that wouldn't be fair to them and would just do more damage. All i can do for now is just bear it, as hard and painful as it is. It still hurts, and it might hurt for a long time... This song feels the way I'm currently feeling. As much hurt I'm in, I can't cry about it anymore regardless of how much I want to. I have to move on. A part of me doesn't want to, but I have to...

Stay right the fuck where you are
Nice imagination. I’d be cool if gorillaz get inspired to make this into an animation
Beginning sounds like Clint Eastwood
JediBlades42 beautiful
Good idea but *G E E P*
Moving to Kansas in a month, and you better believe I'm bumping this when I cross the border.
Why would you move there? Lol
It is pretty boring here
@@noobisboobis7934 I know. I was born & raised in Kansas. Lived in Wichita until I was 23. Then i moved away lol been in Maryland for over a year now. It's better. Lol
Welcome back! Nothing really happened while you were gone tbh
how was the move bro
0:01 i love this song
this song makes me cry...2ds voice is too angelic in this
Who else randomly scrolls through comments looking for something philosophical and how the lyrics relate to the current situation but ends up just finding regular comments.
Hey Bubby wrong comment section, the fandom gotten out of control, and if you really want some inspirational comments Pink Floyd is the way to go

The combo of the vocals from 2-D and Ace's fucking bass along with the sweet but kind of thicc tune in the background makes this amazing melody that sounds so good. Definitely the best Gorillaz song I've ever heard.
I’m not crying you’re crying
I'm not gonna cry.
I'm not crying, I'm just chopping onions for a lasagna
Oh yeah yeah
I’m not gonna cry
I’ve got more time to give
im not crying my face is leaking
This song reminds me of my dog, his name was Teddy, he was a very good dog and if he still sees me, wherever he is, I send him a big hug and I wish him luck wherever he is.
I think everyone knows the pain of knowing someone or something hurt them but still missing them so badly,,
I'm not gonna cry
*Starts to cry*
When you're from Kansas and had Gorillaz's first album on cassette, then they release a song called Kansas.
Hooked straight from the start, jeez! Amazing
@@Randomd0g dogs always have a way of cheering me up haha
Mats Berglinn keep on brother. I know you’ll find the one someday.
Yeah 2D'S voice is soooooo relaxing and he just sounds like an angle😋
Mats Berglinn good luck man, I hope it all works out for you
goodluck man youll find it someday
We've all been there good luck bro
I'M GONNA CRY, becouse this song is a treasure.
When your favorite band names a song after your state that literally no one cares about 😎😎😎
Kansas is great.
pardon me
but
kansas is dank
They care more about Kansas than my state. Who the FUCK cares about North Carolina??
Yo Superman cares :D
tbh I think the two most famous things about Kansas is the line “I don’t think we’re in Kansas anymore” and “WHy is tHis ark-kAnsas”
THIS SONG I LOVE AND MORE
Man, that little chime in the background at the end sounds so sweet and sad. I love it man.
This song in general is so good at conveying an indescribably bittersweet emotion. Songs don’t usually make me tear up but something about this one just really gets to me.
This song is so good I love Kansas a lot of my relatives live there in fact in driving back from Kansas while listening to Kansas rn
"i'm not gonna cry ..." me when i saw all the Gorillaz uploads on one day
"so I can breathe again, photosynthesize again" is so damn good
me: i'm not gonna cry
2d: i'm not gonna cry
me: alright, i will cry

Relatable.
Soooo... thats gonna ring up to about $20,000 plus tax equals $20,099 for the whole ordeal. Do you do credit or debit?

This is one of the best albums in my opinion due to the fact that it is written in damon/2D's perpective, damon is jsut talking about his life at the moment, all be it using a lot of metaphors.
THSI is making me cry I love it so much
Okay but at 0:55 I can't stop hearing "I'm on my Tally Hall"
esta canción me hace sentir sentimental, es super linda esta canción.
esta canción es tan relajante y fresca
OH MY GOD WHY IS THIS ALBUM SO GOOD
becasuse it is *GORILLAZ*
I love this song so much, it's so chill and beautiful
I'm 15 and born and raised in Kansas. When I move to Massachusetts at 18 for college, this'll be the song that'll be playing when I leave.

Okay this is definitely a relationship song and you can hear how hurt 2D is again once again I'm going to cry
@Ibrahim Abid Thats what I thought but breaking up with someone you love is worse than them never loving you in the first place. I know just from it happening but it's different for everyone. have a good life❤
Im bopping holy cow.
i listened to the live version of this album constantly before it came out. this was my favorite song. when i listened to the studio album, i was completely composed until this song came on. i heard the bass and literally lost it and started sobbing. i was so happy. i adore this song so much, listening to this album the first time probably made me the most euphoric ive ever been.
Gorillaz- wait for the live stream with our new track!
Nice tactic tho xD
*_"I'm on my journey home with no fuel, alone"_*
Wew that snatches my wig!
This is an accurate depiction of us introverts here in quarantine! 😓
It's nice to see Damon taking inspiration from Luigi's Mansion.
Wonderland Cartographer underrated comment
Really?? I've not played Luigi's mansion but would be very interested to know what Inspo he took!
I need to know more.
Haha. I was joking, everyone. The intro just gave me some serious Luigi's Mansion OST vibes.

I love this song it’s one of my favorites of all time! So groovy!
I want to cry this but I’m not gonna cry..
Victoria Niccals are you married to murdoc
I don't know if anyone else though of this, but that title is pretty fitting considering that Kansas is home in Wizard of Oz and 2D is singing about his "journey home".

this was one of the songs that i wasn't in the right headspace to love when it was released last summer, but it's perfect to my brain now. love gorillaz for that reason.

Jacob Lopez I’m sorry you’ve had to go through with that
@@boop53 Thanks. It fucking sucks, but I'll get through it.
I want to hug this album…
This song helped me get over my breakup. Beatiful job, Gorillaz
Been listening to this song ever since my bad break up ty❤️😭🙏

this album reminds me a little bit of the fall for some reason. maybe its the state song titles?
Less collaborators. More instrumental based songs and released shortly after one of their bigger albums.
Lemon Films ah makes sense
BEN 2d in the last interview said some like...this one could be " his " álbum bc he is da leader( without murdoc) and he makes the lyrics.
