Hey returning player after 2 years. This helped me a lot so thank you. Good info and presented well. Looking forward to more builds and videos. Subscribed.
this is a nice build to help me back into 2 bar setups. ive been stuck on oakensoul since i got it and well it worked for the content i was doing. but now this has made the ease back into them much smoother.
@CernyGaming I can see that but I can use you're build and a version with Oaken and achieve the same 76k dps on a trials parse. I don't have trials gear and still only cp1116 I just don't see why doing all the extra work when I can get the same with 1 bar. I know my rotations need work and all but again ty for the build/ gear template for me to work off.
I really like your presentation of this build. It was simple and easy to follow. I’lol be trying it out definitely. Is there a written version of the build?
Hey, thanks so much! I try my best to make my videos accessible to all, so I appreciate that. As far as written guides go, I've got some plans in the works for a platform to present them on, but currently, I'm afraid I don't have those resources available for you guys. I'm hard at work on it for you, and I will endeavour to flesh out my video descriptions with the details in the meantime. I'll update this one tomorrow night to reflect those details for you.
I just dusted off my old magplar and chased a few other guides and my performance was not great. I'm attempting this one when I get back home. Fingers crossed it works better than the others haha
The fire staff does add more damage no matter how you look at it, but you'll manage just fine with the lightning staff if you wish. The reason that the fire staff deals more damage is because of increased chances to apply Burning, which in itself provides decent damage. On top of that, Unstable Wall of Fire deals more damage to burning enemies, further increasing the boost. Just use the shock staff until you're feeling up to it - it'll be fine!
Thank I did the build and am quite happy with it. My templar was a monster before the last few updates but then it sucked. Now it is back in business so THANX 😁😁
why medium head piece ? instead of medium shoulder? or why 1 medium piece instead of 2 medium pieces? is the dps return better while using 1 medium piece andthat medium piece being head instead of shoulder?
When managing armour weights, the main thing we're thinking about is the armour passives, usually with balancing the crit chance from light and the crit damage from medium. If my crit chance is sitting around 65%, I usually find more damage by boosting crit damage. If my crit damage is at the 125% cap, crit chance should be increased instead. If I'm going to add one or two medium pieces, then I will try to apply them to the head, chest or legs, since they are "bigger" and offer a larger resistance boost for being switched from light to medium. If that can't be done if, for example, I'm wearing two light 5pc sets, then I may need to make the head and shoulder medium, or maybe just the head or shoulder. Or perhaps a particular build will balance its crit chance and crit damage by having 7 light, or 7 medium. Whatever it is, it's all about balancing the stats. Undaunted passives also provide higher max resources for having multiple armour weights slotted, so that's also a factor.
You're using the wrong kind of dummy. To test your DPS in the way I am doing it, which is designed to replicate end game trial scenarios, you need to use a trial dummy. This can be either an Iron Atronach dummy or Harrowing Reaper dummy.
I would be inclined to go with Blazing Spear. Of our AoE skills, it doesn't deal as much damage as the rest, and truth be told, the synergy may be a hindrance. Your tank may be looking for the other morph dropped by a healer and accidentally choose yours, which while useful, isn't quite as useful as the other morph.
Crescent sweep is strong, I can get the initial hit of 35-45k then tick afterwards of max atm of 23k about 4/6 ticks and it's only 70 ulti can get 3 times at most of same time span of 1 comet. I cannot compare the damage difference between the 2 ultimates as I too cbf lvling mages guild
Relequen is a great option if you run it on the jewellery and front bar weapon in this case. You just have to be careful not to let the 5 second stack duration run out, so don't spend too long on the back bar and be sure to weave well. If you run it on the body, you risk running your crit too low. Siroria is also a fair option, but stay boosting rarely outclasses free damage.
Is it a big loss in dps to simply run double daggers for both front and back bars? And what would be a suitable sub for the destro staff skill? Thanks!
There would be a DPS loss for sure, but truth be told, it would probably still be more than good enough for any content in the game if the rest of the build remains on point. Use the Blackrose dual wield with Deadly Cloak on the back bar to passively increase damage output and gain some mitigation as well. Alternatively, the Master's dual wield with Rending Slashes will certainly pull its weight as well.
Yep, that'd be a strong setup. Couldn't give you the exact numbers, but it'd be good. Nirn got nerfed recently but Deadly would buff it, plus all the Templar main skills. Not sure if it buffs Zaan, but Zaan is strong even without.
@Moe.614 Something is missing for sure. It could be your food buff, it could be attribute points, there's a bit to be found in Chamion Points as well. Racial passives, slotted skill extra passive effects, things like that. Check everything.
Elemental Rage is better for covering a wider area. It doesn't deal as much damage, but will hit more opponents, making it better for dealing with mobs or multiple spread out bosses. It's good to have both unlocked for various scenarios. If you want to use Elemental Rage on single bosses, it will still deal plenty enough damage.
It's easy enough just to drop one of the back bar skills and slot a heal, so feel free to customise it a little if you find that your healing needs a bit more. I don't personally like Mania because I find keep the magicka low enough to be a liability in actual content. But again, if you're in a group that can support that and you prefer it, fire away! It certainly will perform well.
Hi! I can absolutely see the argument between dual wield and a staff for the front bar, since it boils down to range flexibility. In some content, dual wield may not be best when ranged options are available. If you're not comfortable with dual wield, use a staff. That being said, you're a Templar. You're in melee range anyway. You might as well enjoy the extra damage that dual wield brings, because as a class, your DPS relies on you being in close quarters anyway. You may feel more at home with a Sorcerer at long range, or a Warden in medium range. If it's a simple matter of magicka class identity, use a staff, but as a Templar you will still need to be in melee range.
@Poisonious_Cactus Using dual wield or staff has no influence over your regeneration. The only passive that would affect it is in Destro, which only applies when you kill an enemy. Most builds are created on the assumption that you're working down a boss. Potions are important in rotations, and in this case along with all my other build videos, they are used. The potion used is outlined in the video. It's also important to make use of group buffs, shards, things like that. I included a parse in the video that demonstrates no issues with sustain.
Generally speaking, it would work. What's important to know is that the extra effect of the staff type for the skill doesn't matter much, because it only applies while you're on the back bar. The AoE boost from the lightning staff and single target boost from the inferno staff wont make much difference. What DOES make a difference is status effects. The inferno staff, dealing fire damage, will regularly cause the burning status effect regardless of what bar you are on. This is far more useful and damaging than the concussed status effect from the lightning staff. It's also worth noting that Encratis is widely used and MagDK fire breath boosts fire damage, both further boosting the inferno staff. In short, the inferno staff deals more damage, but the lightning staff is more than good enough.
Love this build! Dont have it put together too much just skills and nirn. Hitting 40k dps with that alone! Quick question though how is your magicka recovery so good? I run out so quickly...
Making use of potions and group support is important, and if you need to fire off a heavy attack or two on the staff bar to keep yourself going, it's not the worst thing in the world. If needs be, replace one kf the jewellery enchantments with recovery.
Thanks! I’m hitting 83k using mothers sorrow but I find my spell pen is over capped whereas spell damage is under. Is it worth swapping out mothers sorrow for a medium set to balance out? Or is there another way around this? Also is it worth running two medium Zaan?
@@johnteller474 If you have too much penetration and not quite enough spell damage, then try two medium Zaan's and see if the results even out for you. If that's not quite enough of a difference for you, then you have the option of switching Mother's Sorrow out for Order's Wrath. Since OW is craftable, you have control over how many pieces are medium or light, and you can fine-tune it to meet those requirements as needed. Just be sure that your crit doesn't drop too low. Yes indeed! I made this build just prior to the Necrom PTS going live, and have since tested it rigorously. There are no changes between High Isle and Necrom, so it'll be all good for the new Chapter!
I would say so, yes. Since the only buffs and debuffs available are provided by you, rather than a team of 12 that the trial dummy assumes, 50K is good.
Almost not. The additional penetration will only apply while you are on the back bar, and you should only be there to reapply your DoTs. Most of your time is spent on the front bar, meaning you won't benefit much from the extra penetration anyway. Save yourself the headache.
Absolutely! It is being played now during Scribes of Fate, was made during High Isle, and has been tested on the PTS for Necrom. It gets a slight buff with Necrom, and is unchanged, so it is my build for all of these updates.
Short answer, yes. Longer answer is that elemental rage is better against trash mobs because they usually come in larger numbers and therefore the wider area is better. However, Shooting Star deals objectively more damage overall per cast against a stationary target. It is therefore stronger against bosses that are standing still. It's common to switch between the two depending on which of the above scenarios you are dealing with.
Hey Cerny, out of curiosity, I've got this build almost completely put together and am hitting about 75k. I know I can tighten up my weaving a bit I'm sure as when I was watching your parse I could clearly see your LA's on each jab. How much damage loss can I expect from playing as an argonian, and not having the maelstrom staff at all currently?
Hi there Robert, I'm glad you stopped by. So 75K is already very good vo sidering your build isn't yet complete. The Maelstrom Staff, when you get it, actually accounts for a huge amount of damage and will definitely bump your numbers up massively. As for being an Argonian - well, we're missing out on 1K max magicka along with a good chunk of spell damage, but st the end of the day, this won't cripple you. Don't worry too much about your race. It could be worse, and at least you have superior sustain with potions. Focus on practising and getting that staff. Remember, you don't need the perfected version! It barely makes a difference compared to the normal version. Just get the normal one for now and your numbers will go up a lot.
Mother's Sorrow and Order's Wrath are comparable. The former provides more crit, the latter provides more crit damage. Si ce we are already at the crit damage cap, Order's Wrath is obsolete, meaning on this build Mother's Sorrow is better. The Zaan's medium piece is here to activate passives in the medium armour skill line and the Undaunted skill line, which are valuable and help to round this build out substantially.
Correct me if im wrong, when you mention malstrom staff changes, wasnt it nerfed which is why malstrom 2h and stampede is better now? Lets hope soloar barage sees at least 10% 5 isnt enough imo
The Maelstrom Staff changed because light attacks changed. Instead of boosting la damage to enemies in Wall of Elements, it now adds a flat increase to damage per tick to the skill, which is substantial. Wall of Flames bonus to burning enemies also applies. On some parses, WoE alone has accounted for 8K+ DPS, not including the burning values. It actually is very good if you understand the numbers.
That's quite alright! There are three options for you to try out. Maw of the Infernal, Valkyn Skoria and Nerien'eth are all great for DPS and worth having in your arsenal. I think that a slight edge will probably go to Maw of the Infernal here, but see what works for you.
