Exactly where I would put it. Clearly superior to N64 (better textures and higher polygon counts), but also noticeably inferior to Dreamcast. It would have been awesome if it had been released, but it would have had such a small window to gain an audience, and it probably would have failed pretty quickly.
If it had launched in 96 as anticipated it would have two years lead time on Dreamcast in Japan and three in the US. That’s a good amount of time to get an install base
@VideoGameEsoterica True, but I don't know how much clout the 3DO brand had by 1996. The PlayStation was ROLLING by then, and the N64 was hitting the same year. It still probably would have failed.
I like to imagine the old M&Ms commercial where the two M&M characters (M2!) see Santa and say "He does exist!" and then Santa looks at the M2 and says "It does exist!", and then faints. That's my head cannon. 😎
I knew of a few that existed in the 2000s but all have since gone missing. Odds are there are zero cabinets for the game left in North America. Also I can’t point to a single Japanese arcade that has one but it’s harder to research there. I know of one Polystars in Japan and two Battle Tryst cabs. Zero for Heat of Eleven but I bet some still exist in central and South America as that game got a lot of distribution down there
I actually played this once back in the late 90's at the Franklin Park Mall in Toledo Ohio, this was back when they had the red baron arcade. It did not stay long however, it was only there for about a month, honestly I was kind of ambivalent about it. Fun? Sure but it just could not scratch that itch HOTD did and I totally forgot about it when we got HOTD 2, holy crap I still vividly remember when they got that game.
Love the videos thanks. I never heard of this game before seeing your videos, and I love seeing lost games. I never knew game were even complete or on arcades that were designed for the M2, so it's amazing to see that. Those doors keep winding me up lol, is it just me or does the texture look off? Like the middle of the door should actually be the sides of the door, they need to move the texture 50% across the X axis. Amazing that cabinets were made and you've got some boards yourself. Such a shame it never made it into the home.
Thanks for show us this and the story about the 3do M2’s didn’t know that console and de play through was nice, it’s very similar to the thotd2. Did u play with a light gun ? Can you play with 3 players ?
This game is truly my white whale. I played it once at an arcade in a mall in Carpentersville IL. Never saw it ever again anywhere. I even tried to…play it on my PC and I just couldn’t get it right.
man have aksed before but can we have a video on where you get/got all your m2 hardware snd software , if there was any release (dont think so?) and what the system is all about
Shame MAME still hasn't been able to emulate it yet. I mean yeah it runs, its just slow as molasses and i think reloading is off as you have to move to the upper left to do it.
Definitely not the style of House of the Dead but it involves shooting something so ..... But then I ask myself if a game simply consisted of cans of corned beef floating around the screen ready to be shot, would I still enjoy it. Highly likely, sad or not.
Wish this console released. Seemed in between the horsepower of N64/Dreamcast.
Exactly where it’s located

and not to far from the 1st 3dfx pc card

I mean I can’t say it’s NOT true
Never heard of this one before as a huge house of the dead franchise fan this looks like a must play! Thanks for going over this hidden gem.
Happy to do it :) it’s an unsung classic
Looks like a fun time. Love the 90's amateur voice acting!
Some classic cheesy line delivery
It's a tragedy for gaming that the M2 was never released. 😢
I’d have loved to have seen it gotten its chance on the market
Love how you can play three characters in this lightgun game.
If only I had three hands!
@@VideoGameEsoterica you would be unstoppable
I have a memory of one cabinet being in Park City Mall in Lancaster, PA - that would've been 2008 at the latest

Super rare but unique take on The House of the Dead. Shame it was never ported, fortunate I was able to get the arcade hardware though.
You get that monitor fixed yet?
@@VideoGameEsoterica Not yet, going to get on that soon.

Yes not many people remember it since it didn’t hang out for long

Haha I’ve never thought about it. I’ll have to look again
Very cool!
A fun game I wish more people could play
Someone was selling this cabinet on Facebook a few weeks ago in america. It was on one of the popular arcade groups
Yes you can still find them every once in awhile
Thanks for show us this and the story about the 3do M2’s didn’t know that console and de play through was nice, it’s very similar to the thotd2. Did u play with a light gun ? Can you play with 3 players ?
Yes it’s light gun only and this is real hardware. It has 3P support
Exactly the type of game I wasn't allowed to play as a kid.
Haha my parents never really seemed to care what I played back in the day
This game is truly my white whale. I played it once at an arcade in a mall in Carpentersville IL. Never saw it ever again anywhere. I even tried to…play it on my PC and I just couldn’t get it right.
I don’t know of a single arcade in North America where one exists
@@VideoGameEsoterica if you can travel back to 2011 you’d can find one at the Spring Hill Mall
There was one north of Chicago too in Skokie some years back. Gone now
@@VideoGameEsoterica I will donate whatever is needed to your Patreon if you remote set this game up on my laptop lmao I need to play this
Haha I do have the emulation night school tier. Thats where you get direct access to me to help set up emulation
Oooh! Just in time for Halloween coming up VGE. 8^)
Exactly :)
This game looks awesome! I wish I had a way to play it
It works in MAME. Just not perfect
Another very good looking 3do m2 game, very House of the Dead for sure. Can you burn games into cd-rs to play them on the M2 my friend?
You can burn discs yes
@@VideoGameEsoterica Very cool. You are a very lucky guy to have 2 M2s my friend. Your collection must be amazig
man have aksed before but can we have a video on where you get/got all your m2 hardware snd software , if there was any release (dont think so?) and what the system is all about
I’ll have a vid soonish
Also, sir...do you know if you can view source code of these awesome rail shooters on visual studio?
Never tried actually
Shame MAME still hasn't been able to emulate it yet. I mean yeah it runs, its just slow as molasses and i think reloading is off as you have to move to the upper left to do it.
Yes it’s mostly to experience it currently, not so much to play it
Have you consider on checking UFO 50?
I did but the window for me to say anything others haven’t kind of came and went
I think it looks slightly inferior to House of the Dead on Model 2. The 3D and textures are a little wobbly, while it's perfectly stable on Model 2.
The wobble was a math error. You can get zero wobble but Konami made a mistake in code. Other games don’t exhibit this
@@VideoGameEsoterica Oh, interesting.
Yep. You won’t see wobble on Total Vice really at all
Definitely not the style of House of the Dead but it involves shooting something so ..... But then I ask myself if a game simply consisted of cans of corned beef floating around the screen ready to be shot, would I still enjoy it. Highly likely, sad or not.
lol corned beef. Quite the choice
Wasn’t there an effort to port some of these games to the FZ-35S?
Just one. Polystars
Is there a good guide to setup the more difficult m2 3do roms on mame?
Not that I’ve seen
Looks great. Shame it never got a home port☹️Would’ve settled for a downgraded PS1 version. I for one would’ve bought and played the hell out of it
Yes it’s a bummer it’s locked to an exceedingly rare arcade board
@@VideoGameEsoterica So rare I'm not even sure I knew about it so thanks as always for sharing👍🏻
That’s what I’m here for :)
@@VideoGameEsoterica Defo, keep up the good work mate👍🏻
Very nice. Can we emulate this yet bro?
MAME emulates it just not at full speed
