I'm a big "ancient aliens" fan so this is right up my alley. I was in the Funcoland Dreamcast pre-order line, so this really speaks to me. I have never seen it before your video so thank you! Beautiful, intricate and stylish game for sure.
I had an absolute privilege to play this one on a real cabinet back in the day. This game really struck me differently back when since i had never seen anything like this before. I only encountered 1 arcade place that had this and even that place already ditched the game nowadays. Thank you for the coverage and bringing back the old memories! Keep up the good work 👍👍
I hope at some point, fans can port most of these Sega arcade games to the Dreamcast! Dreamcast emulation tends to be a bit easier to get running than arcade emulation, performance might be better too. The devs could also add some quality of life improvements, limits to credits and what not. So many Sega racers could benefit!
Just when I thought I had heard of every Sega light gun game, another one comes along that is completely new to me. It's like stumbling on treasure, I come back to this channel mainly for the obscure awesome arcade games and updates on who Nintendo's suing this week. Maze of the Kings looks great. I wish there was a homebrew effort to bring some of these NAOMI games to Dreamcast, especially this one because getting the light gun set up properly on my PC to play via emulation was so frustrating I just gave up and moved on. It would be nice to just burn a disc, boot up the Dreamcast and have fun shooting dudes with the Mad Catz gun.
Right up my street. I am always a sucker for Egyptian mummy related movies and games. I am surprised that Sega don't take the game as it is, update the graphics for a modern audience and release it across all popular platforms.
The Great Escape is also where I played The House of the Dead for the first time back in the day. I think that was the only place I could play it at the time. The Maze of the Kings looks great, I'll have to give it a try.
Oh I absolutely got to play this game at the local arcade, AND it had the specific guns with it too that were made to look like the staffs the characters were using! Later versions I saw only had the standard guns.
I remember playing this game in arcades back in the days, and thinking "Man, I can't wait this game to be ported to Dreamcast!" Dreamcast was already discontinued but some games were still being released. Just not Sega games...
Thanks for reminding me of this game! I remember seeing it back in the early 00's and thinking the staff "gun" was weird and I never played it (stupid me!). I never saw that machine ever again since then. I like Sega, I like things that are rare, I like the Egypt and Indy/Mummy theme. I got to find this machine! *Starts searching for sales listings***
Really wish I could play all these games on my Net Dimm easily. Driving and shooting and special controller games are sorely missed. Don't think i knew this even existed before today.
I love when your share these hidden gems! I've been enjoying the hell out of Soldier Blade on my mister lately thanks to you. I never owned a TG16, so beyond Bonk, I had no real awareness of its library. I also adore light gun games, and keep my Sindens hooked up to my big living room TV for games like this...i have such a huge rom library though that is hard to separate the wheat from the chaff.
I’ve never heard of this game before. It looks like it was made in 2000 or 2001. Arcades were vanishing rapidly by that time in the US. It’s a shame. I would have enjoyed playing this. This could have been a last hurrah for the Dreamcast also.
@ I feel like Sega owed Dreamcast owners one more light gun shooter since The House of The Dead 2 was the only one made unless you count Confidential Mission.
That's a game I legit never heard of. Reminds me of Powerslave/Exhumed and the area mechanic stitching together level chunks is intriguing, gives it some replayabilty like a rogue-like. Checked some other YT videos with others playing and they got very different layouts. Maybe it's a happy accident due to limitations, but animation almost has a Harryhausen quality too it.
I just don't like "the ancient Egypt" color scheme. Can't recall a single game that didn't repulse me because of that... even Crash Team Racing does a bit, although it does it in a very attractive and cartoonish manner, and I still love it. I think we've had this in an arcade hall where we went to play DDR.
I never seen this game before VGE. I have to admit it looks fun to play. I should try it out. Thank you for sharing this with us bro. i learned something new today. 8^) Anthony..
Wow never even heard of this one! Looks awesome. Looks like it probably would have needed some amount of effort to get it working on Dreamcast, so it's a shame that it didn't get ported. Is there any affordable "mutli-cart" solution for Naomi? I see boards pop up all the time for a decent price but it would be cool to be able to just have one system that plays all the Naomi light gun games.
I was just looking for a Sega AM2 game that was in development. It was very impressive graphically and in the style of Demon Souls (knights with armour). I've been through Sega's arcade games of the last 10 years but couldn't find it. Can anyone help?
@@VideoGameEsoterica Thanks for your efforts. I don't think it's that. These were big sprites like Demon Souls. They might have cancelled the development.
I recently converted my MAME arcade cad to a 4K OLED screen. What do we suggest for a lightgun? Cheers. As far as all my consoles. Kinda screwed there I guess. But man does dreamcast look good at 1080p upscaled.
A Sega game I've never heard of, exactly why I love your work
That’s why I’m here :)
Artistic talent always wins. The texture work is amazing here.
It’s a very pretty game
I'm a big "ancient aliens" fan so this is right up my alley. I was in the Funcoland Dreamcast pre-order line, so this really speaks to me. I have never seen it before your video so thank you! Beautiful, intricate and stylish game for sure.
I love those ancient aliens “documentaries”. I can’t say I believe it but I’m always entertained by it

Plenty more arcade fun coming :) and yes this one didn’t really seem to have huge distribution

Well I’ll have a NAOMI tutorial soon at least to help people
This looks exceptionally fun. Definitely getting Brendan Fraser vibes 😂
If The Mummy got a game from Sega it would just be this
"Shoot that Anubis through the lasers"... Yes Sega.
It doesn’t have to make sense. It just has to be fun haha

lol it’s wild to think people now come here to find out who Nintendo is suing 🤣

Would have been good on PS2
wow, thanks for showing me this game. I have the Sinden Lightgun and am always on the lookout for hidden gems.
Enjoy it when you play it!

We probably played the same cab
Oh I absolutely got to play this game at the local arcade, AND it had the specific guns with it too that were made to look like the staffs the characters were using! Later versions I saw only had the standard guns.
Yes I’m sure those staff attachments just got broken so quickly
I remember playing this game in arcades back in the days, and thinking "Man, I can't wait this game to be ported to Dreamcast!"
Dreamcast was already discontinued but some games were still being released. Just not Sega games...
I’m surprised Sega didn’t bring it to PS2
I swear these graphics transport me to childhood even if I have zero nostalgia with the game.

It def seems to have not succeeded in arcade floors as it’s pretty rare now
Really wish I could play all these games on my Net Dimm easily. Driving and shooting and special controller games are sorely missed. Don't think i knew this even existed before today.
You can…just need a LOT of custom setups. Driving games are the easiest IMO
I think I remember seeing this machine back in the day. Never played it. Had some very funky controllers iirc🤔
Yes a staff you held like in the game

Enjoy the game :) it’s a classic and more people need to know that
1:50 - Nice!
lol finally someone notices
Or as the famous zen koan asks, "What is the sound of 1 person 69'ing?"
This exist?! I had no idea it looks so cool definitely going to try it thank you so much!
Enjoy it when you play it
Neat game. Really enjoy the selectable shot types and items -- interesting twists on the House of the Dead formula overall. Shame it was never ported.
Would have made a great Dreamcast game
Whilst a journey through 999 possible levels would require stimulants the actual size is Area #024
source . Euro flyer.
Haha yes there aren’t truly 999 variations

Little after 2001
@ I feel like Sega owed Dreamcast owners one more light gun shooter since The House of The Dead 2 was the only one made unless you count Confidential Mission.
@gedaman it was a thin library
Looks like the Iron Maiden album Powerslave made into a game.
Haha does have some of those vibes

It does have some Ray Rarryhausen vibes in the design of the monsters for sure
Very cool. It should have been ported to Dreamcast
But too late for it sadly

Always happy to share new games :)
Thanks again for introducing us to cool things. What do you need to hook up light guns to a Naomi?
IR sensors and the original controls

Define affordable? Haha like $250-300 and you are good
Nobody does the pew pew genre better than Sega!
The undisputed kings. Like Vermont and cheese
Thems fight'n words!
I watched the attract mode on this in Akihabara in Westminster CO a few months back. Too expensive per credit to bother playing it there though.
I’d def have thrown in cash
@@VideoGameEsotericaDollar a credit for a light gun game I’ve never played would get expensive. Learned that with Virtual Cop 3 in Tulsa…
Don't recall ever seeing this in the arcades? Perhaps it didn't sell well?
It didn’t do super well it seems

Soul Reverse is the game. I just found it.

The house of the dead means ancient Egypt

I use GUN4IR
@@VideoGameEsoterica Awesome. Thanks for the reply mate. I'll be sure to check that a try.
Def my preferred way to play
@@VideoGameEsoterica Unfortunately the website is out of stock. Sad face.
They come in and out of stock at random. Keep checking
The one thing I don't understand about this game is that the stages don't often randomize when I boot this on Batocera. Ia there any trick to that?
No should randomize. I’ve never seen it pick the same seed twice
I'll share on the group U keep forgetting about lol
Haha sorry sorry
Is there a good light gun for oled screens?
GUN4IR is my choice but Sinden works well too
@ thanks
reminds me metal slug
Haha I kinda see that
First!!
Ten more VGE points
hidden gem for you -> Terrible garbage anyone with google already knows or played 20 years ago...
I was worried you’d abandoned me but I know you can’t quit me. Thanks for the view 😉
