    today im taking you around my montreal apartment to which i moved in the beginning of 2023. it's the first ever apartment that feels like home! i am sad every time i think that it's still a rental property and one day i would need to move, haha.
    this apartment is located in Westmount area in Montreal.
    it's a 2 bed, 1 bath unit with extremely high ceilings and lots of natural light!
    please let me know if you'd have any questions - happy to help!

    As someone who has lived in Montreal, you are paying a LOT for rent. This is not affordable for most, and is comparable to Toronto living. Homes are much cheaper than renting, and you'd get much kore bang for your buck. You're in a pretty wealthy area, so its a little hard to understand why Toronto was not affordable but Montreal is. Sure, you have more apartment, but you're paying quite a high price for it. Thus is probably why renting was easy for you. Most can't afford this and Montreal rentals have been very very difficult to fine. I think you made this seems way easier and way more affordable than it is. I live minutes away and can say that living in Ontario is easier than navigating the new French world of Montreal (I'm also French, and still, would never ever go back, despite the fact that I work in QC).

    Really nice apartment, in a very nice (sadly expensive) neighborhood. I dig the minimalist aesthetics and, as before, can't state enough how much I appreciate the chill vibe that permeates all of your videos.
    Cool place.
    Obligatory hi Mars.

    2600$ 😮, that’s my monthly payment for my house mortgage, but here in Gatineau Quebec. A 3 bedroom, 2 storey detached house with indoor garage.

    Rental prices in larger cities are bonkers. I live in Denver, CO, USA, and depending on the amenities they can start getting up near the cost that you pay. I'm also currently looking for an "affordable" apartment with a balcony to have a little outside space for plants and a chill spot for me and my cat. Your apartment is so lovely and your dog, I mean, your owner is adorable!

    I know I’m commenting late and please don’t take this the wrong way, but as someone who has lived in Montreal for 15 years, I need to say that even for Westmount you’re getting hosed on rent. I lived in NDG in a 2-bedroom, a 15 minute walk from Vendome metro, for 8 years and paid a max of 960 a month. Currently in CDN I pay 1500 a month for a much larger 2 bedroom with heating included. Idk what you’re used to paying coming from Toronto but 2600 a month… I mean, yeah, that’s what you get when you “just google apartments for rent in Montreal” and take one of the first things you find in the wealthiest, bougiest neighborhood in the city.
    Next time you’re looking for a place, ask the outgoing tenants what they paid and if you can have a copy of their lease. The Régie du Logement lets you contest abusive rent hikes and demand that your landlord give you the same rate the previous tenant was paying, though it obviously doesn’t count if you just move into a newly renovated place without any previous tenants (like a gentrifier would do) ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    • @orangesmartie92
      @orangesmartie92 Месяц назад +1

      Why are you trying to make others feel bad and projecting? They like where they live? Leave them alone. While gentrification can be a problem, it certainly is not the case here because as you pointed out, westmount is already a bougie, expensive neighborhood.

      @@orangesmartie92 I don’t think you know what “projecting” means.

    A large part of what contributes to the rental crisis in Montreal is transplants accepting blown up rent prices. It sets a devastating precedent and has lateral repercussions for more than just your neighbourhood/borough.

    Cute appartement but expensive since it's new and in an expensive neighborhood. I pay less for my mortgage here in Montreal. If you're looking for appt. with a balcony, you have to get out of the downtown/central area. You should look into Little Burgundy, Lasalle, Verdun, NDG,Ville St-Laurent, Mount-Royal,West Island since you're not that inclined into speaking French. Otherwise good luck, because these types of appartements sell like hot cakes.
