I love your bee story, and how you got over fear of them. A bee landed on my arm the other day and it startled me. It was a knee jerk reaction to shake it off, and I hate that I wasn't quick to realize what was happening and take in that moment to enjoy. They're so amazing! 🐝

Our brains are so quick to assume danger. In the right situation it can be helpful but it really does make us miss out on some quality bee time! Maybee next time. 😉

@@MorePranaGardens We were also warned as children, or at least I was, and I know at some point, several times I've been stung, for whatever reason. But what I love is that we look at bees so differently now. They're such amazing creatures! I'm in awe of what they do just out of instinct, and what an important role they have from our gardens to the world's food supply.
My dad was a bee keeper, and I learned to get over my fear pretty early in life. I learned to recognize the drones and would let them crawl on my hand.
Also, I thought of you today in the garden as I have a number of volunteer borage plants coming up. I may try to transplant them out of my bed, and somewhere in the ground. Do they hold up in your Texas summer heat?

That's so cool that you got to be around bees as a kid!
Borage does survive summer here. It prefers Texas full sun (about 4 to 6 hours) to actual full sun. And the white borage seems to flower better in the high heat but the blue does ok.

hmm. maybe i should figure out how well the helps-the-earth-taproot plants work up in canadia land. maybe i should pop some into that square in the back i was just going to throw grass seeds over. then i can help the ground, and also maybe have some nice smelly stuff to pop leaves off of and mow over to help the rest of the lawn.
decisions decisions. first i gotta clean up that box. ughs. i might need that spork back. :D :D :D

We planted a Mt Royal plum last year. It's blooming! What plants should share it's 4x8 full sun raised bed.

You'll want ground cover plants to keep the ground shaded and to reduce weeds. Things that sprawl, like strawberriesor thyme, or things that grow thick, like comfrey, work. You'll want to attract pollinators so go for basils, borage, or other flowers that attract bees and butterflies. You need some nutrient accumulators like comfrey, borage, or yarrow. And something for scent confusion like chives, green onions, or marigolds. I'll be putting together a plum guild soon so I'll gather more specifics as while that's going on; maybe I'll remember to record it.
