Dan, if you ever want to do that Treb documentary, go for it! That is fascinating to hear that this man revolutionized how balloons are used in celebrations and in corporate mouse overload themed vacations
What a crazy specific talent #trebdoc
He's also the guy responsible for the confetti in Times Square on NYE. There's a documentary about it on RUclips.
I didnt know the mickey balloon had such a complicated history lmao
You getting so excited to share this information with someone is such a huge mood considering as soon as I finished the video I needed to call my mom and tell her what i learned
I was always curious about the “bubble” layer on the Mickey Balloon. Thank you for doing the research for me. ☺️
Me too
Hearing about the person who created the iconic disney mickey balloon brought me the same amount of joy and awe as the defunctland doc on the man who made the disney channel theme!! I honestly would love to hear more about Treb
Now I want to know the history of these other weird balloons from that Ohio company.
Also Dan, did you really make an "elderly man floating up with Balloons" jokes without referencing UP?
That was the joke hahah 😜
@@DistoryDan Hello!
I worked at Disney world when I was a teenager. I lived the magic in it everyday and I still have good contacts. Anyway whenever I think of Disney. I think of YOU 🤣🤣🤣
I didn't know I wanted this until it showed up in my feed and I got unreasonably excited to watch it.
This is SO cool!!
When I was a teenager, I had a job yelling and selling candy at Sesame Place. That job was the BEST!!
never thought the history of balloons would be so disturbing, but here we are lol. not sure which was freakier-the painting of the kids or the og Mickey balloon
Dan: "Walt did NOT want a carnival atmosphere for his park."
Me: *remembers Holidayland*
Me: Wait a minute...
Remembering DCA opening day:
10:59 I audibly gasped when you revealed the dawn of the balloon arch. This kind of trivia impresses me. Thank you!
it's cool to hear that it was such a big hit that it made Disney beg Treb to come back
"Balloon" stopped being a word about five minutes in 😂
I remember coming home from Disney as a kid when my Dad came up with a great idea. He deflated the Mylar balloons my twin sis and I bought and hung them on our bedroom wall. They stayed on the wall until we got our own rooms when we were 10.
No video is complete without Dan dying of laughter 😂
Wow, Treb Heining was a genius!!! While doing the Disney College Program, a cast member gave me a green Mickey Mouse glass house balloon and it lasted for weeks, maybe even months.
Amazing video yet again Dan! Also I always love all the effort that goes into decorating the background. It's always interesting to see how it changes each video! Also one of my favorite things to do when I need to smile is look up pictures of old paintings with babies or children in them cause it honestly makes me wonder if they had ever seen an actual child or baby.
They're so iconic
The 1 thing I wanted at Disney world was a Disney Mickey balloon, but my parents said no. I also wasn't allowed to eat all day at the parks.
I'm happy they created Mylar Balloons cause as someone who is highly allergic to latex, this is a great alternative for people who have the same allergy as I do and want a balloon like this.
I'm almost 30 and my desire to have a Mickey balloon is UNFATHOMABLE, they just bring so much joy✨ (And one of those balloon molds, just to put in a little frame of its own💜)
THE LIGHT IN THE BACKGROUND IS SO COOL WHERE'D YOU GET IT
Something I didn't know I wanted
11:10 you didn’t have to call me out like that Dan.😂😂😂😂
I always wanted a Mickey balloon, but since we came by plane so we couldn't get the balloon. I was so happy when the balloon popcorn bucket came out. I could finally get my Mickey balloon!
As a balloon fanatic, myself THIS IS BEAUTIFUL, THIS IS APPROVED, WELL MADE VIDEO!
I am a CBA, Certified Balloon Artist, and watching this was fun because I know what he means by the balloon arch, etc I was thought how to inflate the Mickey Mouse balloons the special way also!
Thank you for this video. This has solve the decades long mystery (self inflicted) of why the group of kids in the last frame of "Trip to the Zoo", which is featured on Fischer Price's 1974 Pocket Camera, are all carrying Mickey Mouse balloons.
I believe the photots were shot up in the NY State area, but there are Mickey Mouse balloons at the end!
That turned out to be more interesting than I was expecting
They were also a big part of a float at Tokyo disneyland. There was a parade called "Happiness Is Here" that had parade floats covered in glitter and colorful paints. The finale float had a hot air balloon made up of Mickey Balloons with Goofy holding it up. It was then replaced in 2018 with "Dreaming Up", another parade that was replaced again not too long ago...
This channel keeps getting better and better I remember when my family thought I was weird when I watched hear videos now we watch them together
Omg the painting of the lids is so weird this is creepy in a good way!
oh i'm so excited for this one!!
You should do a Treb doc…. Btw when I was a kid at Disney I never got one because parents said no. So now that I’m an adult… when I go to the parks, I always get a balloon
When you learn about the magic of Balloons here, the more you learn
You’re an icon as always dan
My father worked custodial in Disneyland in summer ‘78 and he says that Mickey’s 50th birthday balloons were everywhere
Mickey balloons might be my favorite icon of the parks. Great video Dan!
Thank you Duchess!
I work at a small family costume and party store we just started doing balloon art about a year ago so amazing to learn the history of the art I'm just starting to learn the basics of
Ayo! New distory!!!!!! Thanks for the vid, we got an offhand and Dan video in the same day, sweet broadway baby Jesus has blessed us!
When I visited Walt Disney World when I was 13 for the first time (it was also the first time I visited the United States, I’m Canadian) I wasn’t allowed to get a Mickey balloon or any Mickey shaped ice cream thing, because my mom said it was a waste of money, yes I was and sometimes still am sad. I recently went to Disneyland for the first time and saw the big bunches of balloons the cast members carry again after ten years being in a Disney park again, it was something to marvel at even if I didn’t buy any this time either.
Bruh ever since Ive first seen the balloon with mickeys head inside a clear balloon at Disney world, Ive always wanted one
I wish Disneyworld was a lot closer to where I live, I've always wanted to have some of the Disneyworld Balloons.🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈
I have a glass house balloon memorial tattoo planned for my grandpa who loved Disney so much that he and my grandma went several times with or without us grandkids lol.
We never had a connection with the balloons but it seems fitting and they are a really cool visual.
Treb belongs in the Disney Legends for the iconic Disney Balloons he helped Disney make iconic, colorful, creative, and last longer. A niche product yet a great iconic branding tool and products.
What a great memory to share the facts and I don’t get any balloon as a kid, but Mickey Mouse glasshouse made with balloon are so cute!!
Ok. But when did they start adding the weights to the ends of the balloon strings at Disneyland and WDW? I remember (growing up in the 80s) always looking up in Pirates and Small World as a kid and seeing at least one or two Mickey Balloons stuck on the ceiling! It’s like it was a requirement for the boat rides to have lost Mickey balloons just hovering above to torture the kids that lost them! I don’t remember my parents ever buying me one. Probably because of how many we would see go floating skywards on any given day at Disneyland 😂
Takara Kosan is now known as TK Innovations, and the "glasshouse" balloons actually called bubble balloons are still produced by them.
I had my Mickey and Minnie balloon that I got in 1993 from Disney World, when I was a Make a Wish kid pinned up in my bedroom for years. 🎈🎈🎈🎈
My sis and I took our Dad to Disneyland for his birthday, and of course we bought him some Mickey Ears plus a Disneyland spirit jersey. It was only when we bought him a red Mickey balloon that my dad had the biggest grin on his face 🥹🎈🏰🥳
Treb is a great guy and an important figure in the balloon industry. This year, Universal Studios Hollywood started selling his balloons.
BTW, it's pronounced "Hi-ning", not "Henning".
The first balloons literally look so creepy
Disney Dan you tube channel Love my favorite Disneyland Park one fan Big 💖💖💖💖💖⭐️💯🎶🏰
I’ve been wondering, could you maybe do a distory on characters that have gone extinct? 🎈
Any ideas on extinct ones you’d like to see?
@@DistoryDan How about the fairies from Sleeping Beauty? Couldn’t you use to be able to meet them?
What a party!!!! 🎉🎉🎉 awesome video Dan!
@3:06 truthfully, I think that that would look really cool on a wall. If you found one that was already pretty damaged, you could bend them up right a little bit to kind of get some dimension.
Glasshouse balloons 🎈 16:20 16:34
Every time I visit the parks I see at least 2-3 glass house balloons with issues.. sadly they don’t last that long. Luckily you can go to guest relations and they will replace it even though it’s a 3rd party vendor, so that’s nice
If tied correctly they'll last a long time, but at the parks, they're going for speed and volume.
I really love balloons and how they look and the Mickey balloons are very iconic and beautiful to look at but my older sister hates balloons. My dad used to terrorize her with them when she was younger and she had developed a balloon phobia. I'm not affected by this, I just don't like them popping because they are incredibly loud. I might actually hold a Mickey balloon with me if I ever visit Disneyland again though. :)
I remember in the mid 80's those mouse heads were 2.50 a balloon, for i believe was a 15" or 16" balloon, i read some where they're up to 20 dollars now
I'm sorry, but I laughed at the edit of the mylar balloons causing electrical shorts. I mean, it's a problem, but the way you inserted it right in there caught me off guard, and I laughed 🤣😰
Another amazing video on a history I didnt know I needed to know! And great job hyping it up, I had to click as soon as I saw it was posted!
I've seen that they have made Duraballoons that are made of a thick plastic, last for months and are reusable. I hope that they can make Duraballoons with Mickey Mouse ears too just like in Disneyworld and Disneyland.🤞🤞
My parents took me to Disney for the first time in 86 I remember my dad buying me a balloon. But I swear I remember it being a red mickey balloon inside a clear balloon. Did anyone ever get a balloon like that? Or am I just remembering it wrong?????
The glasshouse balloons didn’t start selling at Disneyland until 1998-1999.
9:48 It's quite funny to hear you say that you find these balloons too commercial because they are ( If I'm not mistaken) the only balloons there have always been at Disneyland Paris 😂😅
Micky head ice-cream is more iconic in my opinion
Wow the balloons looked very old through out the History and I have never seen a Mickey balloon and since balloons are the ones that get the people's attention maybe the kids might want a balloon so bad 😅😂😂
Great video as always Dan!
I didn't go into this thinking i would be stanning Treb, but here we are and here I am!
And then there is Disneyland Paris where they still stuck with mylar balloons 😂
I love this video big time because I love balloons 🎈 😍 💕 because they make me happy 😊
And sometimes I would dress myself 👗 up in balloons 🎈
It's ok we love to here it! I love the mickey balloon merch that's more permanent, the ears and popcorn buckets being my favs. But among balloons my fav balloon is the light up mickey in the uv protection bubble.
Can you do a Disney channel video and I honestly would like to see an evolution for famous singers like Miley Cyrus
Was having a so-so day and then saw the coming attraction that said the video would launch at 6.
As usual my tension popped like a balloon!
SIMPLY WONDERFUL AS USUAL, DAN!
YOU ROCK!
🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈
I LOOOOOOOVED this!!!!!! Please I'd watch a full doc on Treb
I Just LOVE Balloons ❤
I usually listen to youtube videos like this at 1.25 or 1.50x speed but I have to go to 1.00 for Disney Dan videos or it's just too fast hahaha! Genius/bonus marketing and analytics
We have seen the history of trash and ballons. Whats next, the Disney lights and street lamps xd. But still interesting none the less.
At the early 90s, me and my sibling are into Disney, especially Mickey and Minnie. I would be the kid that would ask specifically for a Mickey balloon, and at the time outside of Disneyland are these mylar printed Mickey balloons. I’m sure at one point I have those latex Mickey balloons, but not in the glass dome. The invention is really cool, NGL! Present day balloon continue to wow me, and hard to ask myself if I want one myself. 😅
its kinda sad how underrated disney dan is :/
Hey Dan!
I hate the fact that they’re round and not Mickey shaped in the plastic anymore. I want to Disney world for the first time back in March. The first thing I ran to get was a Mickey shaped balloon…they were all round..so I got a Mickey face balloon and a 50th anniversary balloon that lit up. Still sad I’ll never get to experience a Mickey shaped balloon 😕.
Through the 70s and So Cal Gas Co nights, I was allowed to get a balloon on the way out (what, midnight?) promptly falling asleep in the car, waking up in the morning to my balloon hovering just above the ground, helium fail. They didn't want to haul a balloon around all night, I get it. but was sad :P EVERY. YEAR. :P My memory!
Carrying on from the last video🌭🌭🫡
Dan always has us good laughs
This was way more interesting than I thought it would be!
My favorite term for the balloon in a balloon was a “Yo dawg! balloon”
Omg the start 😂😂 I couldn’t stop laughing. I mean thanks for the info tho! I love ur vids. 😂😂❤
The things you never think about. Another wonderful video!
I've seen THOSE.
The design of the Mickey balloon is a classic case of changing little over the years. You just have to do some tweaks to make it better. ;)
2:06 Elmer Elephant?!
Great video dan 🎈
Thanks Nate!! 🎈
I would fully watch the balloon king documentary, sounds like a really interesting story
I have a legitimate phobia of balloons and even just seeing the balloon sellers holding dozens of them makes me feel anxious. Still a super interesting video!
Hi there !! thank you soooo much for telling us the story of the best balloon ever made !!! I really love this balloon and I want them to my next party !!
I have the T cleae balloon, but I need the Mickey latex head...
Do you have any ide where I would be able to find and buy them ?
It seams that Qualatex had discontinued it from it list 😢...
Thanks again !!!
Best wishies !!
Leo.
I wonder what Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz would think about this video...
😉😁
"Ballooney!!!!!"
Can you please do a evolution of WALL-E at D23 starting from 2009
Dan: I'm sure you've all purchased many different Mickey balloons-
Me: uh... I've never been ta a Disney park in my 28 years of existence-
10:55 VindicaTIOOOOOOOOOONNN!
