Dude you have thoroughly used that trailer beyond what I thought it was capable of. I think Springdale should sponsor you a new trailer. I hope your adventures are going well. Sweetie sure is a sweetie
Honestly I didn't think this trailer would hold up as well as it has either! I've taken it up and down mountains, way out into baren deserts, and as far down any forest road I possibly could. She's taken everything I've thrown at her and is practically begging me to push the envelope even further. I love this trailer.
I would recommend staying with the heavy duty door hinges. We put 4 of them on our bed and it’s held up great 👍. The problem with piano hinges is that the screw holes are too close to the edge and can pull through the wood especially if you have a strong struts to hold up the mattress.
David, been watching since you two started in PA near Kinzua. Watched with my husband until he passed. He called you all, "The Kids". He'd say, "How are those kids in the Springdale doing?" Appreciate your videos.
Thanks! I'm so surprised I've been able to get this Springdale to last so long, especially considering all the off roading I've done with it. Kudos to Keystone
As for the bed platform, higher end trailer use long heavy "piano" hinges the width of the platform instead of just two small 3" hinges. Also, the bed platforms really need the outer skins to be glued and not just stapled to the framing for long term durability. We also always add an inner skin of 5mm revolutionply from Lowes so if things slide they won't be pushing on the outer skin that isn't typically attached very well.
We built our own compost toilet using a kit that came with a fan and urine diverter. Its essentially a bucket we put a garbage bag in with cedar shavings. We have to dump it 1 or 2 times a week with 2 of us full time. Best decision ever for boondocking.
David, if you can use bolts instead of screws on the hinges that may be a good idea, especially you can use some fender washers on the other side. Keep the good stuff coming and say hey to Roe.
I was wondering how the truck is holding up as it ages David? Being a long time subscriber, I've seen a few issues you've had over the years, but I haven't seen too much recently, so you must be doing a great job at maintaining it! I remember you and your dad working on it as well some time ago, so it's good to see you still working it! Thanks for the video, we have two of the fans in our Class A DP and the one in the kitchen is used daily, helping to keep the fresh air moving!
David, as always enjoyed the video. Could not agree more about the nature's head composting toilet. Our friends have one and it's an absolute nightmare to clean. We love our C- head. Unfortunately the company went out of Business so can't find them anymore. It's funny you mention the no-seums screen because we've had installed them in ours based on your video many many years ago and had the exact same experience. They tear super easy with cats and could never keep them clean. We actually just replaced all of ours including the one that we did on the door with regular screen and it's much much better. Hope all is well with you and the entire family. Safe travels. Wander on Kyle and Michelle
Hey guys! I just removed the spindle from my Nature's Head from some comments on this video recommending I do so. Sometimes the obvious answer is hidden right in front of you 🤦 And sorry to lead you guys in the wrong direction with the noseeum screens. I'm looking forward to replacing mine too! Safe and happy travels you two, I always love seeing your comments!
Great stuff once again, David! So glad Sweetie is still doing great. The Maxx Air fan is a must for my entry level travel trailer and I've been procrastinating for YEARS!!!! I don't know why. 😆
David, your composting toilet why not just remove the spindle. Then use something like JB Weld to close up the holes. Based on your tinkering skills I’m sure you could engineer a solution. Just remove it so you don’t have to buy a new one.
Thank you so much for this comment. Sometimes the obvious answer is hiding right in front of you. I just removed the spindle and am in the process of cleaning it all out. I'll plug up the holes and put a bag inside just like what I've always wanted out of a composting toilet 👍
Thanks so much for this video. You inspire me with these kind of videos. I remember when you took out the U-shaped Dinette and put that desk in. I remember watching all of these upgrades. Thanks again.
To clean your screens, use a source of blowing air, such as a tie inflator or canned air used on a computer. Then, reverse the blow to clean the screens. I do it with filters, and I think it would work as well.
Yes you have definitly got your milage out of the camper but its a lot of maintinis ...No seeum suck the hinge deal bits the big one .. the growler deal iv allways wondered how good they work i can see wair it would be a real pain, the max fan is a must have love mine ... thank you again Dave
I don't want to get too personal but, are you and Ro still together? You don't seem to mention her much. I know she didn't want to be in videos anymore, but I was just curious. IF she's still around, would love to know what's going on with her and her RV and the other furbabies!
We did the same thing in our fifth wheel; after upgrading to a heavier mattress, we upgraded the bed lift struts but never thought about the hinges. We weren't near any place convenient when the hinge broke (of course lol). We didn't consider a piano hinge but if it breaks again, that's what we'll do. As always, great video!
remove the agitator, place carriage bolts in the holes (smooth side Inside), and use thick trash bags. dump in a bit of core after each use. i use a small steel trash can and small pet bedding/wood "dust" for mine. with bio degradable Thick trash bags works well. but i also double up incase of leaks and change before Necessary.
@ oh, I did find bio degradable bags Are less tolerant. So you might need to use normal plastic trash bags. (But only if you want to have the extra security or have issues with the bio ones. I found them only Sometimes annoying)
My keystone came with those gas charged struts so my hinge is already stronger I put a memory foam mattress on it and it is a lot heaver than an rv mattress it was like laying on a board so I also reinforced by frame to support the struts pushing on them with the old struts were 40 pound I put 60 pounds and it pulled the staples out of the frame so I reinforced the frame

She is traveling in her own RV. I think she was getting harrassed by some veiwers but they didn't share that. either way, she doesn't enjoy doing the videos. her choice and her right

I agree!
So true! This has to be a record!

Thank you for this comment, I had the exact same concern with piano hinges also. The door hinges I chose have the screw holes far into the wood.

That's so cool! Wow you really have been with us since the beginning! And that's so sweet about your husband, I'm sorry he's no longer with you.
Thanks for your insights, especially on the composting toilet. That’s a mistake I won’t make now.
The renovations to your trailer are a perfect fit for life and comfort. Hugs to Sweetie!
Thank you!
You have done an incredible job with that trailer - thank you for sharing what worked and what didn't.
Thanks! I'm so surprised I've been able to get this Springdale to last so long, especially considering all the off roading I've done with it. Kudos to Keystone
I appreciate your honesty about the good and the not so good (bad).
It helps us to avoid some mistakes and know the worthwhile ones.

Reframe and use a piano hinge that goes all the way across keeps it from bending and pinching as it stabilizes the lid from twisting.

A piano keyboard! We'd love to hear you play! 😊

I really enjoy your videos. Really glad you are back.
We appreciate you too David!
We are so glad you are back! You guys helped me find alot of boondocking places ...gee...5-6 -7?? years ago? Time sure fly's! Take care uncle Dave!
That composting toilet is the stuff that horror flicks are based on!

Thank You for making such great material! I appreciate all you do for this channel! Safe travels my friend!!
Agree with Metaman, especially for all the off road adventuring your trailer has successfully endured, Springdale owes you Brother. Safe Travels

Hang in there buddy. 😁
I see what you did there 😅😅😅😂😂
😂
Thanks! Good to see you back on RUclips.
Thank you! I really appreciate it 😄
Thank you David and Sweetie.
Awesome informational video.
Have you guys changed your mind about selling both RVs and getting a larger one for the both of you?

Thank you Tammy! I always love seeing your positive comments. And yeah that U-dinette was quite a project but I'm so happy we did it.

Nice video. Keep it going
Been with ya since day one, enjoy all your content, your humble polite and thoughtful! Keep it up David! Bob and Deb 👍🏻🇺🇸
Heck yeah thanks you two! I love this life and will keep making videos as long as I can!

THank You for all you adventures
You're welcome Paul!
I agree with just a plastic liner and add core as you go.
Would love to see a how to video on replacing your window screens. I know we will need to do this at some point but I am clueless.
Okay you got it! I may not make a video that is only about this, but I'll probably include it in a larger travel / exploration video 👍
I don't want to get too personal but, are you and Ro still together? You don't seem to mention her much. I know she didn't want to be in videos anymore, but I was just curious. IF she's still around, would love to know what's going on with her and her RV and the other furbabies!

We're looking at ditching the Nature's Head to a Sun Mar GTG
Thanks for sharing

Thanks for the info. I sure do love that Sweety❤
My no-seeums screens lasted two years, the sun destroyed them.
Check out throne composting toilet
But where is Jenny David ?
She is traveling in her own RV. I think she was getting harrassed by some veiwers but they didn't share that. either way, she doesn't enjoy doing the videos. her choice and her right
Where is roe? I know she’s not in you youtube but how is she doing? Still with you?
Where is your wife, have not seen her in any of your recent video's
You forget your A/c soft start 🤔
I love my A/C soft start, but like I said I didn't want to make an exhaustive list in this video.
It’s time for a new trailer.
Nah, if I got something different it'd be a truck camper or a custom built van. Something 4x4 so I could anywhere anytime.
Great ahain😊
what happened to your wife?
🛻
Great video David....we have the same Springdale no frills 2020SM 😊 Cause of Faith Unbound 🏕✌🏿
