Golf in Moray
Our Course and its History
Originally Hopeman was a nine hole course, which was extended to 18 in 1985 making it probably one of the most demanding links courses to play golf in Moray located in the North of Scotland. Most fairways are jealously guarded by gorse and broom, adding an additional challenge to members and visitors alike.
Changes and staged upgrades to the course commenced in 2018, with the implementation of a 5 year programme of course improvements recommended by Tom MacKenzie of Mackenzie & Ebert.
Our Signature Hole
Paul Lawrie OBE Open Champion 1999 and also an Honorary President at Hopeman has described our signature Par 3 12th Hole as ”probably the best Par 3 he has ever played” .
The Prieshach is a spectacular hole, with its green nestling in the Clashach cove over 100 feet below the tee and is undoubtedly Hopeman Golf Club’s signature hole. Whilst the hole is only 150 yards long, the green lies more than 100 feet below the tee, protected by two bunkers left and right, and with gorse and heather not far away. Depending on wind conditions, almost any club in your bag might be selected.
On the tee golfers face a panoramic view of the Moray Firth, where often you can observe local dolphins having fun in the Firth below.
Centenary Milestones
As mentioned during our Centenary year in 2009, Paul Lawrie MBE ( now OBE) kindly agreed to accept the position of Honorary President of Hopeman Golf Club on this occasion he presented us with a signed and annotated photograph of the Prieshach taken by club member John Clark. In the same year, Honorary Membership was granted to Albert Mackenzie 2017 PGA Team Captain, who as a local lad, cut his golfing teeth on Hopeman’s fairways.

What a beautiful golf course! And £35 for 18 holes??? What a bargain! I was paying more than that for 18 holes at my home golf course back in 1992!!! The hidden gem is also a bargain!
Liam, Mr Barlow, Smilee and Joe....you 4 are the best! I can't wait to see where you are taking us next!!!

Much appreciated! Well done to Joe again!
A true gem, great video Liam !!! It looks like Mr. B has vast become a cult hero .
Absolutely
Scottish golf. Best in world - friendliest golfers who just love the game. My wife was a beginner and loved golfing in Scotland because of that friendliness and their love for the game. We joined a golf club in England (where we lived) - she quit and has never played since.
Great to have you and Mr B back in Scotland by the Moray Firth (not the Murray Forth).
The locals must get a great laugh with you, Liam. Moray Forth and Narne - Lol.
yes lol i know i cant even speak properly!
What a course, looked stunning. Mr Barlow on form as well.🏌♂️👍😁👌
Quality
One of the best, please can we have a months vids of Scottish courses.
Cheers mate!
Just back from Lossiemouth. Played Hopeman twice. Fantastic Course. Club manger and staff are awesome. Members very friendly 🙏
Yes they are
Fantastic seeing this course again after nearly 13 years. I played the par three into the ravine exactly like mr Barlow. Great course. Just joined my first golf club today mate. So when Lee is free I would love to come and have that day with him mate.
Cheers mate! Great place
As an old fart and a newbie to golf this year, I've loved Scotland's Hidden Gems and definitely some bucket list courses. Love Stroke Index Steve. 😂⛳⛳
Wow what a background to play golf with your best mate.
That first par 3 was unreal Liam!
I don’t even play golf but love watching your videos with Mr Barlow, OMP etc.
I found your channel while I was in hospital in Nov and haven’t stopped watching since.
Thanks for the laughs. 👍
cheers mate!
Played Hopeman about 20 years ago, loved it.
Many great Golf Courses in that area.
It's the Moray Firth Liam.
👍
Wow, what a course and beautiful views.
The mates I play with all agree that we're not professionals with perfect swings, so don't be so egotistical to think that only the big name courses are good enough for us. We love the hidden gems in our part of the world for exactly the reasons you highlight. The people are fantastic, the greens are usually good, the courses are well maintained, and you have a great time playing these courses, especially if they have local eccentricities like a port hole (where you get a free shot of port), buggies like you showed today or a pully system to drag you up the hill.
Thank you
Love the hidden gem videos. Cheers Liam 👍🏻
Thank you
I've played golf around the world and the length and breadth of Scotland and that par 3 at Hopeman is definitely one of the best I've ever played.
Spot on about the hidden gems too. Scotland is littered with them. The second course at Nairn is also great in that area. I remember we went to Hopeman because it was close and there was a window in the weather and we were amazed at what a great course it is.
Love Scotland
Brilliant video boys keep them coming 👍
👍
What can I say?.
That was great fella’s !!
Winter here in North Queensland Australia, mid to late 20’s during the day, perfect blue skies and I’m on holidays. What to do …….……….
Enjoy

Deep fried Mars bars were a joke but now only found in touristy places. Never seen one myself.
So glad you went there. I was a member there for a few years. 12th is still the most picturesque part 3 I have ever played.
cheers!

@@GolfMates you deserve it my friend. Onward and upward
Great vid again lads . Hidden gems are my favourite ones ( no matter what country of these isles ) . I played Tarlair ( McDuff , next-door to Banff ) on a football golf outing , before I took it up seriously . There's a par three there to rival that first one you played . It's clifftop links and you look down onto a outdoor swimming pool on the beach , it's awesome 👍🏴⛳
Glad enjoyed
Great course you guys make me want to go and play golf in Scotland
Thank you
Played this last week, stunning course in a great area for golf, worth a visit no matter where you’re from
Only two shots and yet another brilliant videos lads 👍🏴

Another stunner! Beautiful course and very well played, gents.
Cheers Mr Kipling
Great job highlighting smaller clubs. Played there as a junior when it was a 9 so got to play that par 3 twice in one round. Really can tell you guys enjoyed it.
Absolutely
Liam we go to Elgin every year on a golf trip, we have a group of lads from Lancashire and a group from St. Andrews we go for 8 days and play every day. We rotate the courses from boat of garten, strathlene, buckpool, garmouth, Spey bay, Forres, Nairn, Elgin, duff house royal and grantown on Spey. It’s that good that some of the lads have been going for over 20 years and the courses are brilliant for the money. Have a great trip.
Brilliant
Fabulous views good course stunning area. Well done thoroughly enjoyed the video well deserved pint 👍
Great place to visit
I work 5 minutes along the road from Hopeman. Brilliant course to play. Along with all the others in the area!
👍
Wow! The videography is fantastic. You might be nominated for an Academy Award! Great work
Thank you
Played Hopeman a couple of times about 24/25 years ago. Spent a bit of time in the gorse bushes. Not very pleasant I must say. However a wonderful course and that 12th looks even better when you're there.
We based ourselves in Lossiemouth at a hotel overlooking the first and 18th fairways at the Moray Old course and played quite a few of the courses mentioned.
Played Hopeman as a teenager when their clubhouse was a railway carriage. The 12th. was a great hole then and still is. There's a special one at Royal Tarlair (which I have still to visit) which many think is the best in the land.
Amazing part of the world. What a golf course
It is!
looks a class course, beautiful.
👍

Really enjoying the hidden gems you are finding. Great courses with reasonable green fees. Well played both on those tough holes.

@@GolfMates no problem. I live near Newport in South Wales. Are you able to disclose the courses you are playing? I’d keep it quiet obviously pending the videos coming out. If you’re back down this way again let me know. Would love to treat you to a game at Newport Golf Club.
Nice video work. Beautiful countryside. you guys played well.
